Fox will just start appoint their next conservative ideologue to replace Carlson and that person will just have to try and somehow be an even BIGGER scum of a human being than he was to keep some of their viewers. My money is on Will Cain.

Clay Travis is one to watch for. Odd career. He went to Georgetown and then Vandy law and abandoned his law practice to do sports writing, mainly SEC football. Right around the first trump election he started this I’m liberal but they’ve gone too far thing and dabbling in politics. I swear he realized he could make bank because most SEC fans are conservative and just subtly shifted to a right wing pundit. Started with spots about the intersection of sports and politics on all the news network and as of late has been Carlson and Hannity exclusively.

Now, we know it wasn’t a black hole, but could it have been?

I think this is a pretty succinct and apt comment: https://old.reddit.com/r/news/comme..._approval_of_abortion_pill/jff5m0d/?context=3

Carlson was exceptional at bullshitting, and not bad at lying. Fox, and Carlson, both are exceptional at portraying bullshit as not only relevant, but "the way things are", ie not exactly factual but a bizarre facsimile of what could be perceived in a given circumstance (Ie, the homosexual agenda is to destroy the American family....bitch, I asked every LGBT person I meet in DC the top three things on their agenda usually deal with liquor, dick/pussy and weed). The absurdity of their bullshit (drag shows are a bigger threat than Russia?) never matters, only that it is somehow able to be passed off as the real thing: it's a counterfeit reality, with the quality of the fraud rapidly declining.

When the facts of the issue were pretty binary, and objective, there's no room for bullshitting. It's either the truth or a lie, and the liar must have intimate knowledge of the truth to construct the lie. You can bullshit that the sky's not blue if you want, but no one cares. There's no stakes in that, no one loses billions if you convince people one way or another....the moment that there's actual skin in the game on your bullshit, the jig is up. It's the Fox News version of musical chairs. Bullshit bullshit bullshit OH NO YOU DONE FUCKED UP, billion dollar lawsuit. Fox tossing Carlson is them using him as a scapegoat and I'm sure there will be a big charade of how they are "returning to journalistic integrity" or some such nonsense, until they find their next compelling bullshit weaver.

My money is on a few flamboyant but failed candidates (Chris Christie comes to mind), who will all of the sudden start espousing "things I can't say as an elected official or candidate".

The damage these twats have done is incalculable, and the fact that Carlson is fired is sort of like trying to lose weight by cutting your fingernails.

    (Moved this from the WDT)

Sort of like how Newsome is campaigning but isn't technically running yet.

Do y'all think that people like Newsome and Desantis are just waiting for the dust to settle with Trump to decide if they're in the runnings? Now that Biden is in, that makes it harder for Dems to push him out, right?

Since 70% of voters don’t want Biden to run again, the Dems entire strategy hinges on Trump being the GOP nominee. I don’t know how much east coast liberals are going to want someone like Newsom, let alone moderates. The GOP are still giving Trump a complementary prostate exam with their collective tongues, so they’re not going to go for DeSantis.

Im generally interested in the No Labels party, but they’ll do what independent parties always do: put some looney libertarian up as their nominee who wants to do something retarded like privatize roads or some equally dumb shit.

I think the Dems are trying to skirt a line where they want to sit back and watch the GOP eat itself, which is fine. But not try to dominate headlines with any potential Biden successor making trips to Iowa or New Hamspshire. Biden has to announce a re-election bid to keep focus elsewhere. If he says he’s not running, that instantly becomes the headline from here on out.

But if someone likable starts to surface, maybe he decides to play the health card and not run. The last thing the Dems need right now is a crowded primary where everyone tries to kill each other .

If it's trump or desantis, I'm voting Biden. If it's not one of those two, I'd have to think long and hard before I vote for the old man.

I'm still hoping someone grabs their balls and decides to primary him. However slim the chances of that coming true may be.

It’s not going to matter, even if there is a promising candidate to challenge him, the DNC will just fuck ‘em over anyway.

I’m not voting for someone who is 80.

Biden will do much of the heavy lifting, get like 2/3 or 3/4 of the way through the campaign and take a knee "for his health", and cue up...probably Harris with someone cozy enough for red-state folks (NOT BETO). This election is a lay-up for Biden if it's Trump, because...well, Trump's not exactly doing so hot. Between his legal issues, no Fox News champion, and he hasn't exactly done anything inspirational since leaving office...I think Trump in 2024 is a far worse candidate than he was in 2020.

Trump's the GOP nominee, DeSantis will be done by like...August. Dude got bitch-slapped by a COUNTY BOARD. That's like Durant getting juked out of his shoes and dunked on by a 4th grade Forrest Gump. DeSantis will also catch some cases eventually on his spending...they may not amount to much, but the migrant stunt is an example of shit that you just can't do, even with someone else's money. The ACLU will eat his lunch and like....ffs, all the anti-LGBT shit he's doing makes me wonder: who the fuck does he think runs DC? He's so toxic, I don't know that he could actually staff a national campaign.

He went after...DISNEY??? One of the most beloved American companies? Also, there's an unwritten/unspoken rule when it comes to political donors: do not go after them. They are giving to a campaign, which entitles them to SOME invulnerability. You don't harangue them, you try and convert them. Some of them may never be "your" donor, but you do not fuck with them in this way, because it scares off donors for EVERYONE.

The real interesting critter to watch right now is Fox. As the Jan 6 inquiries heat up, they have to be praying they aren't implicated (there's a small part of me that wonders if that's why Carlson was so abruptly fired...the Dominion settlement was one thing, but his involvement with Jan 6th is another). They will take a hit in viewership right as the primary campaigns heating up, with no clear successor to Carlson in place.

Fox has to be a bit gun shy right now: No Ailes, another lawsuit looming (this one is even bigger!), some exposure to Jan 6. trials, and an incumbent administration that could become adversarial real fast, with enough stuff already in DOJ hands to make life difficult for them. Also Trump, by far the leading candidate and presumptive GOP nominee, is not an ally nor an asset. I have to wonder if the materials in the Dominion settlement make their way public, to the next lawsuit or to any of the Jan 6th proceedings....that could get really ugly for them. If I'm the Biden DOJ, I'm basically saying "keep your shit straight for this campaign, and run it clean, and we'll leave you alone. Let someone run their cock-moistener about treason again, and you get both barrels." Also, they are probably running lean cash-wise, and will for the next few months, not to mention the need to stash some away for the next round of settlements.

I don't think Trump can win without Fox News, and both of them need a Tucker Carlson to broker a truce, and there just isn't one to be found with the audience, clout and loyalty (to Trump) that can make it happen.

Between Trump, Murdoch, and Biden, I don't think all three of them are alive by the next inauguration...and I don't think any of them will be power players beyond it.

Vanity Fair is reporting that Murdoch fired Carlson because Murdoch's fiancee revealed herself to be a nutjob who believed Carlson was a biblical prophet at dinner. He called off the engagement and fired Tucker. It's like a drug kingpin realizing one of his dealers is selling to his wife.
