I don't know if he'll end up in cuffs or not. I just want whatever happens to keep him from running for President again.
I've been chatting with some of the political folks about this, and I don't see anyone but Trump on the GOP ticket. DeSantis flamed out HARD, Haley and Scott are about to find out the hard way what happens to diversity hires in the GOP. He can, like Tiger King, run for president from prison. Trump can self-finance a pretty solid campaign, or at least dump enough cash in at the right step to fuck it up for everyone else. The legal fees are a huge drain, but there's no way they come close to the cash he's been collecting since 2020. He also can legitimately threaten and bully some of the GOP rank and file into supporting him. Those powers may be waning, but few reps in MAGA districts are willing to fuck around and find out. Also, no way does Trump see prison. Pardoned by Biden, more or less immediately. The appeals would drag out for fucking ever. This is the worst case scenario for the American justice system: historic trial featuring rich white asshole vs. the truth. With the asshole in question boasting a breathtaking record of legal fuckery....the court drama will be kept to a minimum. Biden realizes he can beat Trump in a head to head election, he's already done it and he has all the incumbent advantages this time. Biden's strategy people have to be telling him that Trump's added no one to the base. The Jan 6 indictments are perfectly timed as well. I can hear the pundits debating "is it HIGH treason, or just like...regular treason?" Trump wins the nomination, or he splits the ticket and essentially fractures the party. I don't see any one running against him in a primary and winning, and I don't see the Trump base switching to anyone anytime soon, and I know Don Jr. and a handful of others have been succession planning. If there was anything that had a shadow of a chance, they'd be parading them around like Kim Jong Un's debut rap album tour. Trump is it, no questions about it. They'll try and get him to "compromise" with a VP noose: "We, the party, will support your nomination if you agree to have Haley/Scott/etc. as VP". Trump will likely tell them to fuck off, because he knows he's an impeachment away from handing the presidency over to whoever he picks. He has to pick someone WORSE than he is, and I'm liking Kari Lake in this role. I don't think he could win, but he damned sure is going to run. It's the only shot he has at keeping his empire together. He loses, the DOJ and OIG's for like...every part of the alphabet soup keep digging into his companies, personal affairs, etc....Statute of limitations is 7 years for most of this stuff, 5 for some. Clock's ticking, and the DOJ has freely shared evidence across investigations when it comes to this dude. They won't get shittier at investigating as time goes on. And his standard threats and moans won't work if he loses two elections, and gets convicted (and pardoned). Dude is labelled a loser, and the train we all knew was coming rolls the fuck in.
WHY would Biden pardon Trump? That makes ZERO sense. Biden has already said he won't pardon Hunter, why would he do it for that idiot?
I think the only way a pardon comes about is if there's some guarantee that he can never run for office. If he's found guilty, that precludes him from running for office during any appeal process, doesn't it? I'm not sure I see the benefit of pardoning him though...
No, you can run for office while in the judicial system. I don't think Biden can let the investigations interfere at all. It's the only thing he can do to give Trump's base evidence that this is unfair and politically motivated. He has to be hands off, and I think he understands his correspondence with them will be intensely scrutinized in the future. What better way to shut him up forever? I dunno the rules, but a pardon could be revoked. Or a sitting President Biden could simply let DOJ investigate some of the others crimes, and signal there wouldn't be a second pardon. Not pardoning Hunter is because of a conflict of interest. Pardoning Trump is in the interest of conflict. Besides, no way could you let the rest of the world see an American President in handcuffs, even that one. Trump does not go to jail and go away, he goes to jail and becomes worse. He gets pardoned and told to shut the fuck up for the rest of his days. Also....again, neither of these fuckers have too much longer to live.
Trump accepting the pardon would be an admission of guilt, yeah? Which would disqualify him from holding any office? Perhaps?
Democrats gain absolutely nothing by pardoning Trump. Ford pardoned the President he served under, and that was after Nixon took some modicum of responsibility by resigning, and even that was a historic mistake. Absolutely zero chance Biden pardons Trump, which would do nothing but dispirit his base and increase the likelihood that a similar attack on the US happens again.
President Nixon resigned after he was told by the Senate Majority Leader (A Republican) that Nixon did not have the votes to win an impeachment trial. It made absolute sense for him to resign at that point. Pretty sure, I am about the only one here to actually been old enough and to remember the whole Watergate scene. President Ford pardoned Nixon as he did not think putting a nation through a trial would do it any good. At the time I was 18 and wanted my pound of flesh from Nixon. Now I think Ford did the right thing. America was every bit as fractured as we are now. Sometimes you just have to say enough.
Isn't that why Washington pardoned the leaders of the Whiskey Rebellion? "For the good of the nation"
Wouldn't that set a TERRIBLE precedent for the future? You'd just be saying that once you become president, you can do whatever you want for the rest of your life with no repercussions.
Five minutes after I saw the news I saw a twitter post saying that it was he was a pedo and his wife is protecting his kids. I don't know how long it will take for some dumb fuck to randomly interrogate his kids on the street about it. But it's going to happen and I feel really badly for his kids.
The drunken redneck makes a salient point. Besides, there have been a lot of other former heads of state in the recent past that have been jailed. I would argue that jailing him would likely restore some of the world's trust in America as an institution. If it cows the rest of the MAGA dipshits into not breaking the fucking law, all the better.
Fuck you. What do you even contribute to this board anymore? ANYWAY, has anyone heard about Eric Swalwell repeatedly calling Kevin McCarthy a pussy on the floor of Congress? As funny as it is, I still don't understand how Swalwell still holds his position after being compromised by a Chinese spy.
Personally, I take being called a redneck as a compliment. It’s when you call someone white trash that you get into fightin territory. speaking of white trash, have I told you about my in laws?
