They're not "not showing up to do their job" they're doing the only thing they can to try to force the Republicans to do their job. Mnuchin and Price likely perjured themselves during their initial committee hearings, and the Democrats want to question them further. They're not just being rank obstructionists. https://www.finance.senate.gov/imo/...ceDemlettertoChairmanHatch on nominations.pdf
Remember when Obama fired a single Inspector General and even his own party was on his ass about it? http://www.nytimes.com/2009/06/18/us/politics/18americorps.html The Trump transition team was laying the ground work to fire all of them and replace them with their own stooges, only walking it back when they got caught: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...nitial-effort-to-oust-all-inspectors-general/
I think that sometime within the next year, Trump & Co. will be caught doing something bad enough that he will be kicked out. His attitude is ask forgiveness, not permission, and when it comes to doing legal stuff as President, that's not going to work out well.
I dunno man. His supporters don't seem to hold him to any kind of standard. I know it's anecdotal, but I haven't heard a single objective statement from any Trump supporters I know. The most they will say is that "he's not ideal, but at least he's not Hillary." Considering how the GOP were frothing at the mouth over every single thing that Hillary was accused of and not actually charged with, and that Trump is actually doing things that are illegal, as far as his known business interests while being in office, it's seems to be rife with hypocrisy. If you were to take every Trump story that comes out about something bad he's doing and replace "Trump" with "Hillary", how would the GOP react? I'm not outright defending the Democratic Party because their tactics during the primaries were terrible. And Hillary was a bad candidate. But I think it's time to own the shit that's going on. And admit that we are holding different standards for people depending on what team they are on. Just remember the Russia shit that was in the news during the election time and imagine Hillary won under the same circumstances. Would republicans be really ok with losing under those circumstances? If Hillary hid her tax returns... If Hillary liked to brag about grabbing ball bags because she could... If Hillary called upon second amendment supporters to take care of things... If Hillary put Wall Street execs in her cabinet... Just a few things.
Hell Chaffetz is still investigating Hillary, but has given no indication he'll investigate Trump in any meaningful way.
"BREAKING: Senate committee approves Trump Treasury, Health nominees without Dems present after GOP changes panel's rules." For those who decried the two party system - how are you liking the one party system? Oligarchy are us.
So are you implying that Trump is now basically a dictator? If he does something illegal, there will be no consequences? I'm not talking about little shit that pisses off the other side... I'm talking about illegal, against the Constitution or hard-core against the law shit.
I think it would have to be something anti-Republican and not just hard-core illegal. If that 19.% Rosneft sale theory is proven for example, then yes the GOP congress would take his head off, but if it was something like defying a court order that he doesn't like? I think they won't do a thing.
Not in reply to any particular post, but just in the general vein of this page: What has Trump done that is illegal? It appears that the conflicts of interest with his businesses, while not following tradition, are not illegal because the president and VP are exempt from the act that covers other federal employees.
I don't think he's done anything other than rock the boat and rustle some jimmies pretty badly (and lie a lot)... but at this rate, I can't help but think he's going to do something stupid and illegal.
I dont think hes going to, unless not enough where people care (or should care). Unless shit gets really bad, I think he will be re-elected too.
Depends if you mean criminal actions by Donald Trump the man, or impeachable offenses by Donald Trump the President.
"Impeachable Offences" is an elastic clause if I've ever heard one. Bill was in the running because he got a blow job, which isn't exactly illegal.
Technically Bill was impeached for perjury, which is illegal, but you're right that the impeachment clause is (deliberately) broad. Many things that are not technically crimes are very much impeachable offenses. It's more of a political question than a legal one.
The dude seems like he could quite easily be found guilty of High Crimes and Misdemeanours... which is kind of like "Conduct Unbecoming an Officer", which is whatever someone in the appropriate authority considers to be bad. For instance: "The charge of high crimes and misdemeanors covers allegations of misconduct peculiar to officials, such as perjury of oath, abuse of authority, bribery, intimidation, misuse of assets, failure to supervise, dereliction of duty, conduct unbecoming, and refusal to obey a lawful order. Offenses by officials also include ordinary crimes, but perhaps with different standards of proof and punishment than for nonofficials, on the grounds that more is expected of officials by their oaths of office." Trump could almost be found guilty of intimidation right now. Considering that, I find it highly likely that he will cross that line within the next year. I guess it all comes down to if someone has the balls and authority to start the impeachment proceedings based on it.
http://www.businessinsider.com/trum...ico-phone-call-humiliating-threatening-2017-2 Threatening to violate the sovereignty of our closest neighbor and third largest trading partner. What could possibly be the downside of that.
So his ego driven pissing contest over the wall has led to him threatening military intervention on a completely peaceful neighbor. Nope. Did not see that happening at all.
Obviously putting troops on the ground is another bad idea uttered by the new boss. Have you guys considered the scale of the violence and disorder in Mexico though? Clearly something needs to be done other than ignore it (Obama) and threaten to fix the violence with more violence (Trump). Drug cartels run the show down there and the Government is not only powerless to stop them but in many cases complicit in the activity. It's no small wonder people are trying to escape that shit and cross the border illegally. It's just a shame that we can't end the war on drugs. Most of the problems with violence and disorder would go away if the cartels could just get tax IDs and use banks to move money. There would be no need for this violence. Instead we are going to build a wall; that should fix it.
