I am weirdly proud of my home state for not letting their rivalry game turn into a rally. Maybe they were just booing Dabo.
Anyone plan on watching the Newsum/DeSantis debate? If Newsome isn't running in 2024 (I still say he will) then what's the point of this debate?
Newsom is running in 2028. His strategy is to establish himself as the Democrat who is willing to defend Democrats and fight back aggressively against Republicans (as opposed to Biden's more conciliatory tone). He's taking opportunities to establish his bonafides where he finds them. When he announces in four years, he wants to already have a reputation as the guy who says "California is great, and we're tired of apologizing for it."
If shit like taking kids away from their parents in custody hearings because they don't immediately indulge their suspected transition is what he is considering his bonafides, that's a hard pass. I don't want more bureaucracy in our personal lives. It's one of the reason I'm not going to vote for a Republican.
More like running on legal abortion, high wages, and the best fake tits Beverly Hills surgeons can build.
Whether you agree with the policies or not, this clip is a really good example of Newsom's intended strategy: https://twitter.com/Acyn/status/1730419720443093117 1. Explicitly and unambiguously call bullshit on a Republican claim while attacking the Republican. 2. Compare and contrast California with a red state on a relevant issue, favorably to California. 3. Attribute California's success to a policy difference between the Democratic and Republican parties. It's California Uber Alles 2028.
Starting to feel bad for Kamala Harris. It was pretty much "understood" that Joe was only serving the one term, while prepping her for '24. Then Joe committed to a second term, and what normally would be a guaranteed '28 nomination for the sitting Vice President is now up in the air with Newsom inching closer by the day. He really is a great candidate, a younger Dem who takes no shit and can stand and debate anybody (Buttigieg is also, but he's gay so nvm). Whatever Kamala has accomplished in her time as VP, even I don't really know about it. Sure as shit, any talk of it being "her turn" will be squashed rapidly, even if it normally would be. Short of Biden being "unable" to serve, I don't see her getting anywhere close to the Oval.
Not even pre-Fox, pre-crazy eyes, pre-facelift Kimberly? Half Puertorican, I bet she's a PAWG under there.
It probably spells like the dumpster behind a bodega. Hard pass. And given how SF ended up as a city and the volume of people leaving California each year, Newsom is also a hard pass. Honestly, I'm slightly right of center and I'd rather have Bernie Sanders. The Republicans are a dumpster fire at this point, but the Democrats better figure out if they're going with their boy Joey or not pretty soon.
I bet when she spreads her legs you die like Toht did in Raiders. She has always utterly, completely sucked. She attaches herself to rich/powerful men like a sea lamprey and drains their stock completely. All while looking like a trans cigar box indian.
Why is San Francisco the only place people will focus on, especially as it concerns the Governor? He's got a whole state to run, how is that doing on his tenure? San Fran in such a sorry state, blame the guy who's Mayor now. Bernie will forever be that carnival prize you think you can win but never will. If by some confluence of miracles he actually gets the Prez he'll be dealing with an entire Congress that refuses to smell what he's cooking, GOP just on principle alone, Dems because it's too much of a shock to the system they know. He'll have a handful from "The Squad" preaching his good works and that's it, completely ineffectual.
People focus on it because he was the mayor and he was basically doing an alternative presidential debate. Not sure why you think that is irrelevant. I don't know how a governor can tout his budget surplus when there is almost 200,000 homeless people, shitty quality of life and is 50th in terms of economic opportunity/mobility. That is not good budgeting, that is financial mismanagement. Not to mention, the EV mandates that are absurd and will need to be rolled back. And if the assumption is these are just thinly-veiled right wing criticisms of Democrat policies, they're not. I live in the state that has the best quality of life, which is also the product of Democrat policies. Just ones that actually work. I don't like DeSantis either. I was willing to give him a shot early on, but he's just... kind of a loser. Can't put my finger on it. Like I really want to bully him.
DeSantis needs to have his lunch money taken away while being pantsed and shoved upside-down into a school locker. Newsome… I don’t get how bragging about California works in any way for him. It seems to be a laughingstock, the way I view it. It’s drug-addled, ridiculous living costs, racked with crime, woefully corrupt cops, its water resources are reaching critical lows and people are being very outspoken about how they are fleeing to better, cheaper states with equally warm weather like Texas and New Mexico.
This is exactly why he's bragging about it. California has become this caricature that the right wing beats like a piñata. Newsom is finally someone who's willing to push back and say that it's the most populous state in the country, it has the highest wages, and a large number of its issues (housing costs, homelesness, etc) are at least partially attributable to how desirable it is. Hack-a-ShaqCalifornia has been a free pass for Republicans for years now, and Newsom is trying to cut off that avenue. Neither Texas nor New Mexico are better, they're just cheaper.
