I’m not even sure how much cheaper the cost of living here is. I know that housing is generally cheaper than California. We have fairly high property taxes. Our infrastructure is crumbling and our power grid is one cold snap away from completely shutting down. And outside of some hilly and desert landscapes, it’s not even pretty here. At least California has a complete spectrum of beauty.

If the stuff the Ethics committee found him guilty of is true, then good. But, it seems odd and a little bit of a dangerous precedent to expel him without him being convicted of a crime. I don't want him in there or anything. But, Congress already wastes enough time and tax dollars with their political grandstanding and bullshit. Will this open the door to doing even more of that? Constantly doing "ethics investigations" and all that? Is that good or bad? Can we oust all the shady politicians?

He doesn't need to be convicted of a crime. It's not much different than getting fire from your job.

I'm comfortable following Raskin's lead on this. He voted no on the first vote, out of worry for precedent. But once the ethics committee completed its work, he voted yes. I think that should be enough to go on. Requiring a criminal conviction essentially cedes the House's Constitutional prerogative and obligation to police itself entirely to the Executive Branch. As long as there is a form of due process within the House itself, I'm ok with it. There are plenty of Congressmen who would have been expelled prior to a conviction, they just lived in a time where we elected people with the dignity to retire in disgrace first.

I don't understand how any sane person could vote for DeSantis. He's so power hungry he will stoop to shilling things like Anti Covid vaccines lies because it appeals to a devoted group of morons who will then vote for him. Look at the absolute clown he hired for Florida's Surgeon General.

It's not like it was strictly along party lines either. If that were the case, he wouldn't have gotten kicked out. Whatever crimes he did commit aside, he is just a lunatic and a pathological liar. He claimed his grandparents were Jewish and had escaped the Holocaust. They didn't. He said his mother died on 9/11. She didn't. He said he had a successful career at Goldman Sachs. He never worked there. He's just nuts and we're all better off. The letter next to his name doesn't really matter.

At the absolute minimum he should be off his committees and kept far away from any classified intel.

Kevin McCarthy announced that he's resigning from Congress at the end of the year.
Apparently he can't take the bullying.
