Anyone think he dropped out because Trump offered to give him a position? VP, Cabinet, etc? And god damn it, it sure looks like we're in for a Trump/Biden rematch. I kept hoping another Dem would step forward. Maybe they're concerned they can't beat Trump so they're waiting him out?
If you look at some of Trump's cabinet...what does DeSantis bring to the table? Folks like Mattis, Tillerson, Mnuchin...they brought connections, networks, resources, etc. to their respective roles. DeSantis just brings baggage. He's blown $130m of donor money, ran FL into the ground, pissed off everyone from Mickey Mouse to Trump himself. He can be the Secretary of Fucking Stumps, and not much else. Trump's looking for VP and Sec of State picks that scare the shit out of everyone, as a deterrent to impeachment. It's why Haley won't get anywhere near his cabinet a 2nd time...there's enough people who'd prefer her as POTUS than Trump to start an impeachment proceeding and make it happen. He can't win a 3rd term, so if he wins, and he's impeached, it's over. He was already impeached twice, so he knows the likelihood. He's looking at folks like Kari Lake and Gary Busey, not Haley or DeSantis. The math around Pence hasn't changed...Pence wouldn't sniff the White House without Trump, and no one preferred a dude who called his wife "mother" as POTUS over Trump. Obviously Pence isn't the VP nod, but it'll be a similar sycophantic insurance policy. It's early yet, but I'm looking forward to the "Dark Brandon" campaign, where Biden realizes there's no such thing as an undecided voter and can be savage in making fun of Trump. I am thrilled the 2024 election turns into a geriatric roast battle. Really. It'll be fun.
It seems pretty clear that Trump was immensely frustrated with the amount of "You can't do that sir, it's a crime" that the "institutional" picks from his first administration gave him. He won't build a cabinet of Mattises/Tillersons/Chaos/etc again. He's going to select for loyalty first and foremost, which ultimately translates to "willingness to violate the law."
Don't forget also replacing government employees with true believers who will owe their station and salaries to him specifically. I can tell you what that's like.
Texas appears to be going nuts about now. https://gov.texas.gov/news/post/gov...on-texas-constitutional-right-to-self-defense
I really wish people would stop using the term "invasion" when talking about this. No one is invading shit, you dumb chucklefucks. We have migrants and asylum seekers coming to the border. They either get brought into the country, processed as a asylum seeker and are allowed to stay, or they are processed and sent back into Mexico. Same as the past 40 years. There's almost nothing different between now and 10 years ago besides we are actually doing a better job of stopping people trying to cross and sending them out of the country. It's now at the point where McConnell is saying there won't be a senate backed border deal because Trump wants to run on an immigration platform and they don't want to get in his way. Like...the entire Republican party are useless snakes and I'm going to be SOOOOO glad when Biden fucking eviscerates Trump during the election and I get to hear the chorus of 60 million morons crying about rigged elections and how horrible their life is.
There was a politico article the other day with an interview from a New Hampshire voter who was pro Trump because he’s just mad at shit. https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2024/01/22/new-hampshire-primary-voter-00136850 But he couldn’t outright say what it is. He lives a very nice life in an expensive home in beautiful part of the country. It’s interesting to read. He probably spends too much time on Facebook.
Abbott was angling for a VP pick if DeSantis went anywhere. Since that didn't happen, antagonizing the federal government is just setting him up for his next career move. He is jerking off with both hands at the thought of the photo op of him in his wheelchair getting arrested by a fed. I've seen first hand how fucked up the border situation is, it's a total quagmire. The stunts these cunts (Abbott and DeSantis) have pulled aren't helping anything but themselves. CBP folks have a tough time recruiting and hiring, their job is made impossible by Congress, and it's not like they have any help in terms of how to predict or deal with a wave coming across the border. If anything, the Southern border is causing turmoil in the Northern and coastal borders, because the illegal immigrants who are coming in tend to pick the easiest routes, which...are not where Hank Hee-Haw is on patrol against cinnamon-looking folks. Most of your illegals cross over literally any other border, and over-stay their visa. But those are the ones that can afford airfare, not the icky poor ones. The saddest reality is the people coming across aren't far from being climate change refugees, and that's only going to increase. I've met some of the folks who are resettled in VA, and my GOD are the locals mad about having to share a school district (and school district resources) with a bunch of poor, special needs immigrant kids. They aren't special needs because they're dumb, but they have next to no formal education, not much English, and many of them have a litany of health and behavioral issues that the schools have to allocate resources to address. One of the reasons NoVA real estate is so stupid expensive is because among all the DC suburbs, this one has particularly good schools (and in-state tuition to UVA, VA Tech, etc.). Folks are fine with their taxes supporting cheap apartments, and God knows there's plenty of low-skill work around here, but the kids are the sticking point...everything from hiring additional aides (basically translators) that their kids don't see, to lowering the average test scores, to ruining the sports ball, and my favorite dog whistle was "undermining the spirit of the institution". The State Department, USAID and our international arms could have done more to prevent this, but....that's like saying the best cancer treatment is time travel. Technically, you are right, but it's not exactly helpful information.
It was genuinely insane to me to read the NH primary exit polls and see how many people put immigration as their most important issue. NH is about as far from the Southern border as you can get. You can't find good Mexican food here if you try, much less any sort of overwhelming presence.
we are in the midst of a massive home addition and renovation. Basically non-stop construction at our house since last September-ish, finally coming to a close. Anyway, no chance in hell you're gonna get a spoiled little white dude to get some of the stuff they do, especially in this weather. I don't ask questions, but I do get the point. I also Speak enough Spanish, and those crews speak enough broken English, that we're able to talk a little. Suffice to say, some of the nicest dudes I met have worked here. They have some serious stories though, and the shit they're coming from is just unreal. We joke about "Chi-raq" and all that, but I cannot fathom living in fear of the cartels like that. I'd take my family and leave too.
You understand that immigrants enter NH from the Canadian border, right? Like...that's not an insane premise at all.
Let's be honest, no one is worried about the Northern border. South Dakota's governor sent state guard troops to the Southern border, despite it being almost a thousand miles away, whereas the Northern border is right next to their good pal North Dakota.
Technically that's your Southern border. Your northern border is with some seals and polar bears and shit or something.
Hey Nett, as a US citizen, I live in constant fear of mass-shooting events. Can I claim asylum in Canada?
