This is what bugs me about the political hyperbole. The governor of SD doesn't exactly have his fingers on the pulse of the issue, nor was that stunt a feature of geography.

The folks crossing the southern border that are problematic right now are asylum seekers, which demand resources to process. Inevitably, those resources run thin, and again...it's not like there's a seasonality to it, or some way to assess when there's about to be a wave of violence, unrest, disasters, etc. that some weeks later sends hundreds more folks to the border. It's 100% reactionary, and the jurisdictional fuckery pulled by Texas isn't entirely wrong. Thousands of folks turned loose on these border towns strain their resources in turn.

The folks crossing the northern border are more likely to stay illegally (ie, overstaying their visa, etc.). It doesn't make the news, because...the fuck are you supposed to report in an airport in Detroit or a bridge in upstate NY?

The political stunts (sending guard troops, buses full of migrants, etc.) are a great way to get notoriety, but otherwise pointless (and quite often illegal).

No one is worried about it, because the immigrants crossing there have money.

The data and history are somewhat misleading, because historically the folks crossing the Southern border have been workers, and everyone was happy to let them on the payroll. Now they are women and children, and they aren't trying to work to send money back, they are trying to relocate. They tend to have an entirely different resource profile, and it's not like it's a paltry number of Afghanis or Yemeni. The xenophobia isn't entirely a figment of their imagination, the population trying to settle here now is going to consume a lot of state and local resources.

Nah... bring them across... the more AR-like the better... I'm sure there won't be any problems. There's a length restriction, though, so be sure to cut all the barrels down first.

Yeah, their typical public open/concealed carry that they’re used to will fit right with our Don’t Even Stop For Fucking GAS With a Gun In The Car, Asshole laws.

And if they tell you to pull over to the larger booth at the border, just keep going right on into Canada. Ignore the flashing lights,it’s a welcoming celebration for people with balls like you.

Like your laugh-a-minute immigration officers; our Customs agents love a good prank, especially when their shift is ending. They also love threats.

They're like that every year... not just election years. The craziness is becoming more constant.

I read that story, and immediately know of at least one person who believes that dude was groomed by an FBI agent on some online chat. That’s the answer for anything bad people do in the name of right wing politics, didn’t you know that?

Maybe the ballot will be end up being Nikki Haley versus Dean Phillips, and Trump will be in jail and Biden will be in a memory care home.

Dean Phillips can't even beat Marianne Williamson. If Biden dies, we're getting the Orb Mother.

They've already agreed to hear the case. The real question is how are they going to come up with rationale to ignore the 14th Amendment and let Trump back on the ballot, when Trump's lawyers' arguments have been so bad. His lawyers aren't giving the conservatives on the court anything to work with. Instead of arguing that full-on insurrection is a higher bar than Trump managed to clear with his little riot, they've been filing briefs that are like "is the holder of the Office of President even an Officer? Clearly the writers of the 14th Amendment intended to bar Confederates from every office except Commander in Chief of the army that just lost hundreds of thousands of men defeating them, despite them being on the record when debating the amendment saying 'of course it applies to the President.' Please accept the dumbest legal and historical argument of all time."

By having Supreme-for-Sale Thomas, he of the wife who should've been arrested for her involvement in Jan 6, not recuse himself.

Sounds like the talk radio crowd is leaning on “he didn’t want to do it for real or else he would’ve used the military.”
I can’t listen to any of these opinions without hearing the fear in their voice that they’re gonna lose the audience unless they gargle Trump. You can hear them fishing for the buzz words.

The special counsel has found Biden to be old and have a bad memory. Biden responded by agreeing he’s old, then proceeded to have a bad memory. Anonymous sources are quoted as saying that Biden’s gonna have a problem if he keeps being old and also keeps having a bad memory.
