Biden just announced he has gotten the Israelis to agree to a potential peace deal that includes a ceasefire, withdrawal of Israeli troops, and exchange of hostages for prisoners. He's encouraging Hamas to accept it.
I just want terminally-online leftists to stop screaming that Gaza justifies the US chopping its own dick off in the next election.
There's what, 5 months to go? If the NYU kids aren't mad about Gaza, it'll be something else by November.
Maybe if we keep the terminally online right and left to continually be terminally online, and we stop listening to them, we can actually get some stuff done?
I just wish it could only be considered "genocide" when it's done, and an entire swath of people are wiped out. While it's in progress, it's something else. That'd be so much better.
You're going to have civilian casualties in a war. Especially when the enemy you're fighting hides among them and doesn't give a damn about them. Israel has taken multiple steps to try to keep civilian deaths to a minimum. FFS, The US did a whole lot worse in WW2.
I dunno, man. The firebombing of Tokyo was brutal, plus we dropped two nukes. I support all of it, but ya know, pretty brutal.
Didn't we annihilate a quarter million Iraqis for...no reason at all?? Israel was attacked by a terrorist organization. I am still shocked that they are being painted as the bad guys here. They aren't the ones taking hostages, nor are they being backed by Iran and a bunch of other ME nations that Israel has defeated before.
https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2024/05/31/trump-bungled-the-trial-00160941 "At the moment, I do not expect Trump’s appeal to be particularly well-lawyered. Trump’s various attorneys have now stumbled in several major trials in just a few years. There was the embarrassment that was the “defense” of the Trump Organization in the criminal tax fraud case that went to trial in late 2022. They lost to writer E. Jean Carroll — twice — in her sexual abuse and defamation cases. They got clobbered by the trial judge in the New York Attorney General’s civil business-fraud case." GEE I WONDER WHY
Tokyo alone was FAR worse than the nukes. It’s barely talked about by comparison, too. But it was straight-up scorched earth.
WWII is crazy in the fact that the only nuclear bombs dropped in human history weren't even in the US's top war crimes, and the US wasn't even among the top war-crimes-committers.
The nukes were really just a message. “Hey guys…we’re gonna be really good at this now.” and the military leaders were still telling the grandmas to get the sharpened sticks ready.
When you have to make the choice between not breathing and inhaling super-heated air so your lungs burst, your enemies are pretty mad at you. That being said, we should have committed another dozen or so war crimes against the Japanese.
The rape of Nanking alone warranted substantial punishment. And the Japanese barely even acknowledge what they did. It feels in hindsight that the Japanese get a pass that the Germans didn’t.
