Most people's experience with hearing gunfire is from being next to or behind the shooter (if they aren't the shooter) gunfire sounds very different when you're on the receiving end & at a distance. Add things like building walls, pavement, crowd noise & in this case, the shooter was elevated on a roof and people won't recognize or hear the noise at all. My WAG, the majority of the shots you can hear in the initial video clip are from the USSS personnel returning fire.

I'm going to say it right now, I think this was staged. Do you really expect me to believe that Secret Service dropped the ball so badly that a former president/ candidate actually got hit/ grazed? When was the last time there was a credible attempt at a president's life? Reagan? Bush Jr. dodging a shoe? And CONVENIENTLY the suspect is dead, and not captured.
