I could see Biden pardoning him as one of his last official acts, if that were the objective. I don't see Harris doing it, and I don't think the legal matters Trump is subject to will be at a point for Biden to do it. Also, I don't see Trump accepting the results of a loss, so no reason to give him any goodwill.
One of my partners is wrapping up a divorce, and her ex husband receives fundraising solicitations from Trump. I am afraid to ask, but I would love to see research, because I bet there's a LOT of divorce proceedings that cite political leanings becoming more extreme. And, I'd bet there's going to be a lot more if he loses.
It's one of the reasons why many conservatives are now pushing to repeal no-fault divorce in many states. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/article/2024/jun/25/republicans-no-fault-divorce
Apropos of nothing, but I am proposing a new electoral college system where each state gets 1 vote per Big 4 professional sports franchise in their state.
I can see Biden pardoning a can of mixed vegetables, and then passing out while watching The Golf Channel.
That’s projection I’ve never seen an argument against no fault divorces that included that logic as a reason. Ever. Only two reasons I’ve heard are the hardcore Christian conservatives sanctity of marriage argument and the men’s rights advocates ‘family law is to stilted against men’ arguments.
Just because they're not stating it directly doesn't mean it's not a reason. Also, why does it only have to be ONE reason for them trying to repeal it? Ultimately it's all about control. Whether that's about control over their spouse's vote, their body, their general autonomy, or any other reason. https://www.salon.com/2024/08/14/ca...g-for-the-big-question-touching-a-nerve-this/
My cousin is getting divorced because of her going off the deep end. Her husband can’t stand her anymore and is trying for full custody as he feels she is too unstable. She went full q anon during covid and has driven everyone away. I also saw an article about how a womans center is getting lots of questions from women asking if their husband can find out who she voted for. So yeah, you are probably right.
This is the one and only valid argument I've seen against vote-by-mail. An abusive husband can verify a mail-in ballot in a way they cannot an in-person ballot (although this can be gotten around by voting secretly in person on election day and invalidating your mail-in ballot, but that's a lot of work). I don't think it outweighs all the benefits of vote-by-mail, but it's the one argument I've seen people make that isn't total bullshit. That said, the people arguing against vote-by-mail tend to be the abusive husbands, so I question their motives.
Still a stretch. The right pushing to reconfigure divorce laws goes back quite a while, well before divorcing your spouse over political issues became a cultural level thing (2016, and particularly 2020). I’m center right and hang out in right spaces enough to hear all of the manosphere arguments on the subject. I’ve never even heard politically motivated divorces even obliquely referenced as a reason to do away with no fault divorce. Most you hear about the issue is around dating and dating apps. I won’t argue the over arching idea of their purpose is to control women with it.
My wife’s friend got divorced recently. He got deep into right wing circles on the internet after January 6. The straw that broke the camels back was when she found out he cashed out his 401k for silver bars that he hid in the basement.
Steal the bars, hide them somewhere safe, demand to know where the 401k money went, accuse him of lying when he says he converted them to silver that he can't produce, divorce him and take every other marital asset to offset the theft of the 401k, profit.
Geez, Tucker Max must be quickly approaching 50. Would an 18 year old voter even know who the hell he is?
