The count isn't finished. She's going to pick up another 5 million votes, and Trump is going to pick up another 3 million votes in CA alone.
It's kind of like what happened after Obama won his first term, people checked out and believed the job was done, which is how the Reps dominated the midterms. Dem voters are just fickle and lazy, they have to be "inspired", their vote has to be "earned", and some other bullshit. How many of them stayed home because "I won't vote for a genocide enabler!"? Should they get another chance to cast a presidential vote, maybe then they'll finally understand their responsibility.
Did they think the woman who was caught on tape laughing at throwing the parents of truant students in jail was going to win over minorities and the lower class? She’s a piece of shit.
I mean, you can "give me the shirt off your back" and still be a racist. At a certain point, actions speak loudly here. And a lot of peoples' actions say they support an avowed racist, they support someone who openly admits to sexual assault, they support a felon. They support someone who is cruel for the sake of being cruel. Who is so clear about being a shitty person that it's actually been a feature of his campaign. Who directly acknowledges his desire for fascism and who believes that dictators are to be emulated and admired. I think your argument fundamentally comes down to something I wholly disagree with: that your political beliefs are somehow distinct from your morality and values - or, perhaps, that fear of change, or uncertainty and doubt, are justifiable excuses for disregarding morality and values in your politics. As I mentioned, I've had, over the course of my life, so many friends and coworkers whose politics I simply don't align with, and that's always been fine. I've had great discussions and debates with those people. Respectful and in good humor, because never in those discussions did I feel as if their feelings were objectively immoral. We can disagree and still be friends, and it's not like most political candidates are perfect or represent the idealized version of your political beliefs. But the wanton shittiness in every facet of his being, on full display... If you can support that, I don't know how to be friends with you. I don't know how to reconcile that.
It's worth noting that I'm not seeing anyone currently excited because they think Trump's policies are now going to be implemented. It's all childish glee that liberals are upset.
No, you make sense. I'm always railing on the MSM for not reporting well, and this is probably just another case of it. I guess it's because so much of the "news" is showcasing bullshit Cult of Trump behaviour that it seems like it's highly representative. I really hope that's not the case.
Still, videos of Trump are still videos of Trump... and what he says and lies about are on record, not some media bias.
I understand what you're saying, and that's something where everyone's mileage varies. For me, someone's political views, sexuality, color, etc are not the entirety of the person unless they make them so. Otherwise, I can overlook those and still think they're a decent person overall.
Oh I absolutely agree he says and does a lot of shitty things. But I also think there's a lot of bias driven hysteria about him that things sometimes get blown out of proportion.
But is there? Can you name something the media said he did that was worse than the things he actually did?
A few thoughts had that popped into my brain over the morning: -how do you think Biden would’ve performed? Was the shitshow of his extended dropping out a big factor toward the loss? -this was a sound defeat, but was it a surprise to the Harris campaign? Do you think the “trump is toast” stuff was honest opinion, or attempts to tamp down trump voting numbers? -how do you feel about the 2028 election season, now hat it’s started? (Kinda joking, unless…)
He would have gotten destroyed. He faced all the headwinds she did, but with the added albatross of his age. The age thing was crippling; it's something easily explained to/observed by casual voters, not something that ever improves, and makes you seem weak, which American voters hate above all else. Harris made up a lot of ground after he dropped out, it just wasn't enough. I think the "Trump is toast" stuff came mostly from online pundits and other assorted internet morons. What I heard from the campaign all along was "we're running as the underdog" and "it's going to be a close race, but we're optimistic." Pretty standard stuff when you know you're in a tough race but you want to project positivity. Trump wins with 80% of the vote, despite winning zero votes from imprisoned journalists.
This. The US is effectively a one party country now. It all boils down to who the repubs want as the successor.
Biden would have gotten smoked. Period. The problem at the root was he promised one-term in office, then he wanted two. The Democrats took the gamble and ran interference. When the debate laid bare his cognitive issues, the DNC staged a coup and forced her through as the replacement when she was already a weak VP. She tried to run something similar to the basement campaign Biden did in 2020, but the circumstances had shifted. Voters never really got a sense of a platform or how she differentiated from Biden. She did herself in with that one last week. Combine that with immigration issues and a uniquely odd economy, you get this result. As for the next few election cycles, it looks like if population growth trends hold, blue states will lose electoral votes and red states will gain them. The Democrats better wake the fuck up.
Well, democracies don't last forever I guess. I can't wait for all the poor dipshits who voted for him to whine when he destroys the economy and kills the benefits they're on.
The whole “he said he wants to put Liz Cheney in front of a firing squad” was part and parcel of the issue I think Walt is talking about. You can watch Super cuts of pundits deliberately completely mischaracterizing his words and point of the conversation. That level of outright deceit by the media is why no one trust them anymore. Why 40 million people will listen to a 3 hour podcast that doesn’t have the baked in bullshit. Sure a lot of the time they criticizing legitimate concerns but you are going to come off as biased to the point of being unhinged at the level a lot of reporting went to on benign stuff.
