You act like a guy being accused of raping a 17-year-old should be disqualified from the highest-ranking law enforcement position and it shows.

Jesus Fucking Christ, I thought you were just posing that as a worst case scenario "what if" option, but it's true.

    https://www.cnn.com/2024/11/13/politics/matt-gaetz-attorney-general/index.html

I was just thinking earlier "What if Trump made one of the Texas politicians (Cruz/ Abbott/ Paxton) AG?" bit this is so much worse.

Pretty sure you're all going to feel the sting of tariffs soon enough.

Also, maybe not popcorn, but why do you have such complex trade regulations around caramel? What are you hiding?

Since Cruz already won (some how), wouldn't the Republicans just appoint someone else, like the Dems did when Harris became VP?

Also, Trump wants Tulsi Gabbard as Secretary of National Intelligence, but people are calling her a Russian asset.

I don't know anything about that; can somebody fill me in?

Gabbard publicly defended Russia's bullshit on Twitter, and also in interviews. As if Russia just fucking couldn't help itself.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to check out of politics for the next 4 years, at least outside of voting in my local elections. It's too pathetic for words.

I hope all the fuckwits enjoy the leopards eating their faces.

Yeah, but I think there will be a big impact to the US, not Canada.

Take oil and gas, for instance. So much dependence on the Canadian supplies, no real replacement for it, and so much of the US based processing has been set up specifically for the Canadian supplies. Tariff it all you want, and you're just hurting the US consumer and worker.

I think it’s likely that the tariffs specifically target China. Otherwise, all of our coffee and chocolate, most of our spices, the majority of our seafood, a large % of our beef, a big % of produce etc will cost an arm and a leg.

I think the idea is that the Cruz machine is already running full-steam, and appointing a replacement runs the risk of appointing somebody who isn’t as much of a lock.

I don't support (those) tariffs, but Canada doesn't exist in a vacuum. Canadian crude is so "dirty" (i.e. sulfuric) it's a marginal producer on the global marketplace. Canada produces oil in a way that almost no one else does, so the break-even point is higher than most. Luckily, you're now at price parity with Russian crude. You could always sell to Germany. Trudeau told Olaf Schulz to fuck off 2 years ago about it, but that should probably change.

Or you can sell to California. They need an excuse to stop buying from the Saudis. Even with tariffs, you'll get a deal. They're stupid.

In other news, Gaetz just resigned from Congress for his AG role. Would be hilarious if Thune scuttles his nomination.

I'm getting the impression that a lot of the people in Trump's cabinet are going to be grossly underqualified...

The question is whether or not they will stick around, or if we're going to have to start measuring time in "Moochs" again.

But we are a huge supplier to the US, and a bunch of the US-based refineries have been built out to process our "special" crude.

I'm not saying we won't feel anything, but it's not like you're going to stop buying our crude... you guys will feel it way way more than we will.

Maybe. What does the WCSB have left at this point? I haven't really looked into it. It also largely depends on the state of shale tech. It's becoming a fairly mature industry at this point, far different than it was when fracking first got going. The US is also a net exporter of crude, refined petroleum and NG.

Also, keep in mind that being a marginal producer is not always a bad thing. Marginal producers and suppliers generally have a significant impact, and sometimes the "final say," on global price points.
