A lot of people, some VERY IMPORTANT PEOPLE, would say Dr. Oz is the best of the best. And he is, that’s what they’re saying. He has an emerald city, did you know that? And emerald cities, America, we’ll get rid of all the horrible murderers and torturers and criminals, it’s just tragic, what they did to cities…
Gaetz out: https://x.com/mattgaetz/status/1859649045553402285 Unclear which of his sexual crimes was the straw that broke the camel's back, but reports of a second 17 year old couldn't have helped.
Which bottom-feeder do you think Trump will nominate next? I know that Ken Paxton really wants the job.
He won his reelection though. I thought he only resigned the rest of this term. Is he quitting forever?
He put out an earlier statement that he would not be taking the oath for the upcoming congressional term, but that was under the assumption that he would be the incoming AG; however, since he won the re-election, I believe he's still technically allowed to serve his term. Not like there's any history of anyone from the GOP saying one thing then immediately going back on what they said when things don't turn out the way they envisioned.
Per Forbes reporting: Because Gaetz resigned from Congress, his seat must be filled through a special election in Florida, per the Constitution, meaning he cannot just retake his place in the House or be appointed into the seat. Gaetz—who won reelection in his Florida congressional district with 66.3% of the vote—could likely run for his own seat again in a special election. Jonathan Hanson, a professor at the University of Michigan’s Ford School of Public Policy, told Forbes he believes Gaetz would not have a problem running again as there is nothing in Florida law that would prohibit the person who vacated the seat from becoming a party’s nominee in a special election. “Senator Gaetz” was trending on X, formerly known as Twitter, within minutes of Gaetz announcing he was removing himself from consideration for attorney general. One Florida Senate seat will likely be open for appointment by DeSantis as Trump announced he is nominating Sen. Marco Rubio to be secretary of state.
Isn't the villain in college movies the crusty old dean? Gaetz would be the guy who scores beer for the freshmen party, but only so he can get the girls trashed and fuck them once they're passed out.
I'm assuming Gaetz and Trump knew that the report was going to come out and end Gaetz's career but since he's been a die hard Trumper, Donald wants him around so he appointed him AG, Rubio to Sec of State, which frees up his Senate seat, AG falls thru for Gaetz and then he takes Rubio's seat. Too tinfoil hat?
This is also assuming he doesn't just take his seat he was re-elected for. There's some talk going around whether he "technically" resigned his upcoming seat or if it was just his seat he holds now. I think it's entirely possible he just sits in his current position and doesn't move from there. Also, that's taking a HUGE risk to rely on DeSantis to follow the plan. As much as he isn't going against Trump, he certainly isn't going to do the guy any favors as big as appointing Gaetz to a Senator role without some kind of quid pro quo.
Word on the street is Pam Bondi. Remember the Florida AG who squashed her own Trump University investigation after he paid her off? And how we just accepted that? Gaetz is out of Congress, but DeSantis can easily appoint him to Rubio's now vacant Senate seat. However, Trump's daughter in law wants it for herself.
Hey guys, I have a serious question: Since Trump has said he's going to slap a tariff on Chinese goods starting day one, several American companies (Walmart, Auto Zone, among others) have said that they will be raising prices on goods sourced from China. (Translation: They will be raising prices across the board, regardless of where the goods came from.) How are Trump and the right-wing media going to spin this as the Dem's fault? Do y'all think the Dems and left-wing media will call Trump/ the GQP out on this?
There is so much involved with tariff application that anyone claiming they know what's going to happen is full of shit. Sure, its an import tax. But it's not as simple as "consumers are going to pay more!" The last time his administration put tariffs on China, the Biden admin came in and doubled-down on them. If the ultimate goal is to spur domestic production, that's a fairly long-term gamble that we won't know if it pays off until about 2035. China routinely breaks WTO rules, steals IP, etc. The full tax plan has not been released, or at least finalized, so we'll wait and see what Lighthizer comes up with (assuming he accepts the nomination).
One of the big reasons Biden HAD to keep going with the tariffs Trump put in place is, once you start a trade war, you can't just unwind the position without getting concessions from the other side as well. If I slap a tariff on something you are exporting to me and you in turn slap a tariff on something I'm importing to you, but then a whole bunch of things go on in the background which would damage an industry or ruin a new project if either side exits their tariffs, you are pretty much locked in place unless both sides agree to step back. China was not going to step back and so Biden couldn't just exit without it doing a giant amount of damage which would have been blamed on him, just like everything else with the economy was.
