So do you think this was something being purposefully held in the chamber for Trump’s inevitable “we’re gonna win so big you’re gonna be so tired of winning because we are gonna win win win with our AI that we’re gonna throw billions of dollars at and have the billionaires design” announcement?

I have a feeling that a lot of events/ announcements were being held back until the 2024 election was finalized...

So I did some reading this morning on this company and the founder and... It's pretty incredible. He's been into AI since 2008, using it mostly for financial trading, and DeepSeek only got started in 2023. I'm sure there was some groundwork there, but he essentially built an AI that is killing Meta, Google, Amazon, etc. in 19-20 months. As with all things China I'm concerned with connections to the Chinese goverment, but if this is truly opensource the Tech Oligarchs that were all just lining up to curry favor with Trump have to be shitting themselves.

I have no idea. They had to have known that its release would totally rock the AI world, so it had to have been planned and controlled very closely and not just released on a random discord server. As to waiting for Trump? No clue.

But... the guy who founded it built up his AI to do trading... imagine if he set this up as a major "FUCK THE MARKET, SHORT ALL THE THINGS" event, regardless of who was in office?

    That would be fucking epic.

    And for under $10m.

In an ecosystem where companies are throwing around BILLIONS to develop and train these models, this guy did it with peanuts.

THAT is the fear or realization that killed the stock market yesterday.

This was confirmed by one of my teams today... if you host the model yourself, there is no data going to China. It's only if you install and run their default sample app or use their web service.

The pre-trained model is censored, like if you asked it about T-Square it lies... but if you train your own model using that framework, there are no issues. That is the use case that we're looking at... self-trained models.

Most of my ML academics have been getting no sleep playing with it, and they are beyond excited. This is a big deal.

So is this a Napster kind of a big deal? One that will be having everyone trying to destroy it?

As long as he gets richer, he doesn't give a fuck about the US economy or the American people. He'd stab your grandmother and step over her dead body for $10

    Trump's goals:

    1. Stay out of jail.
    2. Make more money by any means possible.

You’re talking about the person whose casinos went bankrupt— may I remind you that’s a business where you are given money for doing nothing, and he fucked that up.

He's already started on that with his golf outings, dragging SS and GOP members along to his own courses, courtesy of us.

    Two pieces of advice:

    1) If possible, move up the timeline on major purchases you have planned. Buy it now, because in a few months, if not sooner, prices for consumer goods are going to skyrocket. Tariffs on everything from computer chips to steel to aluminum are going to drive up prices.

The wife and I saw this coming, so we bought a car to replace mine a couple of months ago, are buying some appliances this weekend, and I’ve got a couple of other items in mind.

    2) Chicken in particular, eggs and all other meat have dramatically jumped in price over the last two weeks. This is due primarily to bird flu, but tariffs won’t help. Bird flu has also been found to affect cattle. You can’t really buy eggs or milk ahead, but whether you need eggs or not, buy at least another carton asap.

More importantly, buy as much chicken and beef as you can and pack that freezer.

    Eh, kind of.

Yes, they went bankrupt. But, Trump put virtually no money into them, made millions every year and then stuck the debt with investors. In his mind it's "The Art of the Deal"

You can still buy chickens, and in places where able, I recommend people do. Many suburban areas are allowing residents to have a few laying hens as long as there’s no roosters.

I didn’t want to take on more mouths to feed, but we went ahead and ordered another dozen layers, as well as a rooster in order to have hatching eggs for future needs.
