Nobody was talking about white genocide. Moreover, if population decreased why would that be so bad? Also, there isn't only white people in this country to have children. I don't get what you're on about here. Also, the general issues around immigration aren't about how there should be no immigration. It's about how it should be regulated and illegal immigration should be reduced, not subsidized. Most importantly, the immigration discussion isn't about fucking race.
Relax, that's why I used quotes. No one here's used that term, but it's what you see from the virulent anti-immigration types online, and to them it is *very much* about race, specifically the displacement of their own. What's bad about population decreasing? Ideally nothing, fewer mouths to feed = more resource wealth to go around. Unless your economy runs on endless consumption like ours, in which case you NEED more consumers, not less. Less consumers, less demand, less need for X companies to hire Y employees. We are far beyond equilibrium, and getting there will be one fucking chaotic process. EDIT: And I specifically refer to white folks because who the fuck are we kidding, you know where the wealth resides.
You fucking know it. Nice broad streets, every restaurant franchise you've ever heard of, they certainly cater to their audience.
MASS Immigration. I'm all for immigrants, especially the ones that go through our byzantine legal process. Dumping people here in huge numbers doesn't work out well. I've switched countries a few times, and it's a hell of a process that requires a ton of support, resources and money. Throwing the doors open and expecting people to figure it out on their own, with no intentions or even ability to integrate is just foolish.
The Florida prime spots really aren't that rich compared to NY and CA. CA has some fucking rich areas. Anyway, the population growth rate is slowing a bit, but our population is still increasing and will continue to do so. We're not in a decline like some areas of Europe. We don't need mass immigration to keep things afloat. The white genocide people think putting a black person in a movie is white genocide for fuck's sake. Sure, they exist, but they're idiots and they don't really influence policy. Mostly what people are saying is that if we're going to bring people in (and I suppose we still have plenty of room) we should at least do it legally and it should probably be more skill based. Say what you want about poor working class folk not learning enough skills, it's still not right to flood the market with poor immigrants and drive their already meager wages further down. A lot of middle class people are getting hit too, including people making six figures. Basically, companies are abusing the H-1B visas to bring in people they can pay to do the same job for half as much or less with no benefits, and that's bullshit. 60 minutes did a pretty good piece on this recently. This isn't the whole thing, but gives an idea about the phenomenon.
Is there a bigger, more cynical, piece of shit in politics than Mitch McConnell? http://www.politico.com/story/2017/03/mitch-mcconnell-neil-gorsuch-confirmation-236319
But he's completely aware what he's doing is hypocritical. He knows it will (rightfully) piss off the Democrats, Democratic voters, and frankly anyone with principles, he just doesn't care because it plays to his base and he'll likely "win." It's a transparently cynical strategy, even worse than his pandering to coal country and then immediately after the election coming out and saying "coal jobs aren't coming back."
At this point I'm beyond giving a shit. The seat has been empty for a year now. I don't agree with what the republicans did with Garland, but if the democrats' plan now is to try to keep the seat empty for another 4 years they can fuck off too and I hope the republicans just use the nuclear option and fill it already. Both aisles of these retards would damn near burn the country down just to placate the rabid shit heads in their base.
The republicans started this cycle. They could let the nomination go down, have Trump put up another, more conservative nominee, and go nuclear to pass them. Not in reality but it'd be a fun cynical dream.
I can't imagine how much the left would lose their minds over something like that. They shoot down Gorsuch so they go and force someone like Ted Cruz on to the bench.
I think Gorsuch should just be confirmed and the fight should be saved for other things. Obviously I'm pissed with what happened with Garland and all the blatant shameless hypocrisy that's been going on around Gorsuch's confirmation, but the potential for who he could've picked as his nomination was so great for it to be someone completely insane that Gorsuch seems tolerable by comparison. I don't like him, but it's not like I'm going to because of course he's going to pick a conservative. Nothing in his record or opinions has seemed too extreme to me and he's not just some random shmo, which were the two things I was most concerned about. I think if a seat opens up in 2020 that's when they should go in full on revenge mode, but there are bigger things to worry about now and I'm not exactly holding my breath for the Republicans to wake up one day and decide to do the right thing.
I don't think Ive ever watched a confirmation hearing for the SCOTUS. Good lord is it boring as fuck. Same poltical non answers to legalise gotcha questions but dry and boring. Where are all the pubic hairs on Coke cans and Long Dong Silver? We'll see if the Democrats in congress are willing to buck the grassroots/donor class of thier party and let him through and fight another day. Honestly I'd save the political capital for any other left justice seats that may need to be filled. I imagine if Ruth Bader Ginsburg croaks they'll want to sandbag a confirmation until 2020.
There's no way the Republicans don't pull out every dirty trick in the book to get a conservative replacement for Ginsburg should she croak; unless the Democrats take back the Senate in 2018 (and the map is against them there), they won't be able to stall until 2020. They have greater public support against Gorsuch than they will against any other nominee, and an ironclad rationale for opposing him (as opposed to a later justice where it'll just be a mirror of the Republicans' "I don't wanna"). If they let Gorsuch onto the bench, the Supreme Court will be illegitimate for a generation.
The fact that that Senate refused to confirm any justice nominated by the prior president. The court is illegitimate if any justice but Garland sits that seat at this point.
That's not illegitimacy. That's just a shitty thing to do. Illegimate would be if Gorsuch didn't go to law school or pass the bar or something.
