Or you could choose to believe that the Director of the FBI was fired on the recommendation of an AG who committed perjury during his confirmation hearing because they're worried about the "credibility" of the bureau.
Yeah, that one too. He briefly spoke to the ambassador on capitol hill a few months prior. Not exactly much to go on. Sessions is in on it. Comey used to be on it. Comey is fired because he isn't in on it. Whatever. After nearly a year of investigations now I'll believe in the proof when I see it.
Link to Rosenstein's memo, which is, at the least, the rationale the administration claims for Comey's dismissal.
In addition, they were trying to find a rationale to use to explain why he's being let go. Trying to find a reason to justify an action.
But... Sessions has recused himself from any of the Russia/Trump investigations... so how could he recommend that Comey be shit canned?
Yeah, I was being a wee bit sarcastic with that statement... But really, he's being shit-canned for the one piece of work he did that helped Trump get elected by causing a ton of chaos around Hillary and her emails? Totally believable! Just draining the swamp here, boss!
Good grief. Maybe it's because Trump is going to appoint an "independent" "unbiased" investigator to look into something else, and he plans for that to be Comey? Geez, if Comey has intel on something Trump did, this will be interesting. Or, part of Trump's "plan" to keep everyone occupied with distractions while he does other stuff?
Like, did Trump ask three times, "Am I under investigation?" or did Comey sense he was doomed and offer, "So, hey, Mr. President, I can assure you that while I am in office, you won't be under investigation."?
There's a part of me that believes this isn't about shutting down the Russian investigation, but just Trump realizing that his crowds are still chanting "lock her up" and he needs to throw the retards some red meat. "'Twas not me, twas the vile Comey that saved the witch from her rightful place upon the pyre!"
It could be related to Russia(although that would make me wonder why he didn't fire Comey months ago), it could be because Comey really was an all around shitty director, it could be other ulterior motives, it could just be Trump acting rashly. Like all the other 'Russia' stories that pop up it just isn't all that compelling to me. Whatever Trump's real reasons this is a former agent on the investigation going forward - Also, The senate will have to approve the replacement and if Comey was really onto something we should hear about it soon. The FBI also isn't the only agency looking into it, but I guess if you go down the rabbit hole they're all contaminated too.
It's because he makes stupid decisions, even if the only consequence is poor optics. His firing letter was pretty bizarre and passive aggressive. That being said, I think the Democrats are making a critical error by still harping on the Russia thing. Its quite a gamble to bet all your capital on this one horse that might not even run. The odds of a smoking gun popping up now are probably slim, but who knows? Why they are staying on the one possibly illegitimate thing when there are some many other glaring and valid criticisms, is baffling. Heres a very early 2020 prediction - the only candidate I think will beat Trump is Joe Biden. And he deserves to win. But 3.5 years is a long way away.
I slightly disagree. I think there was definitely Russian meddling....follow the money and the relationship goes way back. However, was the meddling easily proven to be illegal and/or unprecedented? Probably not. Will it lead to an impeachment? Not as likely as Donny T's own ignorance of his office and how it works. The Russia angle plays well, and gives him plenty of rope to hang himself with in other affairs (nepotism, abuse of public office/funds, or just plain old perjury). I definitely think this ends with El Presidente in front of a panel, a la Clinton/Ken Starr, if for no other reason it hamstrings his ability to undo things like Net Neutrality or the EPA (FOR FUCK'S SAKES). But I think the FBI investigating Russian ties to people in the White House makes POTUS nervous and distracted, and the Dems can start to pluck back some of their seats and power. I'm curious how Comey's firing will play out...the conservative public remembers him for exposing the Hillary emails that swung the election. The message is "investigate me and you're fired", which...screams guilt, especially from someone like Trump. Why fire the guy who got you elected? At any rate, regardless of leaning, who has confidence in this guy to lead anymore? Between the golf, the executive orders that can't accomplish shit, failing healthcare reform twice (the Senate won't even vote on that pile of dog shit), the ridiculous expense at Mar a Lago...who in their right mind is like "he'll still get it done". Half his supporters can't even comment without mentioning Hillary, as if that's somehow relevant?
Agreed on Biden, but I also believe that Cory Booker could beat him too, all they have to do is give him a microphone. That guy speaking next to Trump in a debate would be a hysterical slaying.
Booker will probably never get it, at least not the top of the ticket. Hes almost Chris Murphy-levels of retardation on gun control, which is enough to scare the moderates away.
I think the most bizarre thing about all of this is that the Dems are hopping mad that Trump fired the guy they said influenced the election so he could no longer head the investigation over folks influencing the election.
I don't think you've seen the most bizarre part of this Comey thing, yet, though I have no idea what it will be. From last Summer to this one, the reversals from Democrats AND Republicans AND the media coverage about Comey, his influence, his obligations, and his statements, have been all over the place. All three groups have taken turns supporting him, attacking him, and calling him out, and then switched to the other side of whatever they were saying about him. Something - his book deal, or an investigation into why he was in some location, or some minor text exchange - is going to blow up into a HUGE event before this is over.
