It will be interesting to see if someone can pry the party out of the cold dead hands of Buckley, Jr. and Reagan.
This might be a stupid question but... If it's generally agreed upon that the GOP needs a massive revamp in their base policies to remain somewhat relevant, what would that be and how different would they really be from the democrats? I think the GOP needs to leave women, gay people, and racial minorities alone and stop trying to inject hateful policies that have zero effect on their own lives into legislation. Once those social policies are brought into modern times, are taxes and government size the only thing left to fight over?
I was talking to el husband about all this election garbage and I said that I hoped this shitshow would result in reform of the GOP party in some way and, even more hopefully, result in the party distancing themselves from the religious nuttos but he thinks they are just going to clamp down even harder to make sure what happened this time doesn't happen next time, and that they will make sure their party choice candidate gets the nomination. Unfortunately I think he is probably right. There might be reform of the party down the line, or a fracturing of it or something, but it won't be for many years.
The republican party all but has imploded. Maybe they didn't find much during the initial investigation because she deleted and bleached 30k+ e-mails while under subpoena. But the initial investigation didn't only find one e-mail. From the report: If she didn't want this to happen she shouldn't have done this in the first place. She was doing the same shit on her phone, it's not like she cares. Also, Comey came across the evidence, it's not like he just fabricated a new story. It's hard to take the dems seriously when they start whining about this after they've sent brawlers to republican rallies to try to make them look bad, and then spent the entire campaign fear mongering and trying to get the base out with divisive statements about the racist boogeymen, which suddenly comprise the whole republican voter base. After all the shit Hillary has pulled her crying about this is an absolute joke. Of her scandals this one pisses me off a lot less than some of the others, but if anyone on here had done something like this at their place of work they would be fired, not looking at a promotion.
I think the Republican Party needs to quit courting Conservatives and/or Christians so ardently; it is the core issue [that causes a ton of their pablum] of what has made their campaigns dodgy at best and laughable at worst for nearly three decades. A few other things I could bitch about within the Republican Party but that shit is the biggest turd in their punch bowl.
Anyone know if Comey would be immune to the Hatch act? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hatch_Act_of_1939
It would never stick as he hasn't done much of anything other than announce an investigation. That's more for something like the Watergate scandal.
The wording I'm interested in is: "but must abstain from "any active part" in political campaigns". Surely a case could be made that his useless announcement, 10 days before the election, did nothing but have an affect on the political campaigns.
It certainly is affecting the campaign, but I just don't think that's enough to stick him with the Hatch Act. He hasn't acted outside the bounds of his authority. It's more like Obama writing executive orders that people feel are excessive. You might feel it's questionable, but it's not illegal.
Aside from the fact that the content of that letter got leaked to Chaffetz before anyone else allowing him to spin it first. And then allow the following speculation to run wild. It could be reasonably inferred that him writing a useless letter like that, dangling a hugely partisan issue that has plagued her campaign, would have a sizeable impact. An impact that the FBI should have no place making. No matter what side of the aisle you're on, you should have a problem with this. It's not a Wikileaks thing or a dirty campaign trick. It's a branch of the government leaving a pile of shit on the floor.
I know, right? Who cares if Hillary broke the law and Comey didn't? Elect Hillary and fire Comey. If we're going to go full retard we might as well start hitting home runs. Edit: From a rep: Ummm no, I don't think what Comey did wasn't shady. I'm just putting this in perspective.
What about what was presented as McCain, Romney or Trump resembles the clamped hand of Reagan? The fact that the Republican party perverted AWAY from Reagan is why it's been such a colossal failure on the Presidential level.
The problem I have with statements like this is the fact that if the situation were reversed, you wouldn't like it either. Both teams either shit talked the FBI or praised them depending how the wind was blowing. And there is ample media coverage to show this.
If you want to see some really flagrant hypocrisy check out how fox news coverage has shifted over the wikileaks. They've gone from saying Assange should be executed to calling him a hero.
That's why everything is bullshit. The mental gymnastics I see these people attempting each time something positive or negative(to them) comes their way makes me unable to take any of it seriously. Watching that girl, Kayleigh McEnany try and defend Trump daily is almost painful. Basically... Comey writes a stupid letter about Clinton. "Look how corrupt. When there's smoke there's fire!!" Word gets out that it's probably nothing and no one really knows what anything is. "Well, if she has only just given everything over in the first place, she wouldn't be in this situation." So the spin is that no matter what, she's guilty.
It's funny, I was just thinking if I had a coworker who bragged about grabbing the women of the office by the pussy he'd probably be fired instead of promoted.
No shit. One of these two have to be king shit on turd island though. That's why I find it strange this scandal is influencing people's perception of Hillary at this point in her career. To be clear though, she IS already guilty of breaking the law. Multiple times. That's not a spin. We just don't know yet if this is another example of that or not.
Gee, I don't know hombre. There's been two glaring examples discussed half a dozen times on the last page of this thread. Can you figure it out? Or do you think wiping evidence under subpoena and sending classified information over cell phones and private e-mails is legal? If you want more go back through the thread. All you can eat. Goddamn, I'm sorry to be a dick, but you guys post this shit right after the fact. Every time it's posted you circle right back. "Uh, do you like have an example of something Hillary did?" Figure it any way want, it's not going to change the facts. If you disagree that so many of her activities are illegal, corrupt, and a violation of any ethical standards go ahead and disagree, and I'm sorry but you're wrong. Objectively and definitively wrong.
