...and the Norks just threatened to nuke Guam.

I wonder if those clowns know that our entire nuclear arsenal is probably now aimed directly at them.

And with the latest projections of where NK's nukes can hit (apparently they have them miniaturized), a massive part of Canada as well as about half of the US is within range.

Unfortunately trump keeps opening his mouth, because of course he does, and it's not making things better by a long shot. Though I'd rather him and that korean fucker exchange words than bombs, but still

If I was in Seoul, I'd be shitting myself about now.

It lets him distract people from what else has been going on.

And I wonder where the intel came from? Same people who said Sadam had WMD's?

Imagine how upset Trump is going to be over this situation once he finds out Guam is a part of the U.S.

And heaven forbid that Russia sees any benefit to the US going in and shaking things up with China.

I'm a little reluctant on the intel that they have miniaturized nuclear warheads just ready to go. It takes a lot to go from barely having a missile that can lift off without self destructing, to having a fully functional wmd that can travel to the states.

I'm not saying they don't. But a situation like this is a perfect distraction from the Russia shit. It's not even getting much coverage that Devin Nunes went to London on the DL to spook Christopher Steele, the guy who wrote the almost completely corroborated dossier that heavily implicates Trump. The same guy who Adam Schiff wants to put under oath.

There's also a decent chance that any ICBM never gets out the atmosphere and detonates over NK. I don't put it beyond Trump to fire first though. Costing hundreds of thousands of lives or more is completely meaningless to him if it has a chance of putting a stop to the Russia thing. But as it goes, the GOP is entirely responsible for whatever he does because they had 6 months to get him out of office so far. And none of them have said or done shit. Merely being "troubled" by the various things he has done is such a pussy move when you know that any democrat who would behave this way would have been impeached long ago. None of this has to have ever gotten this far. But you know, party over country.

I just realized that both Kim Jon Il and Donald Trump both know and like Dennis Rodman.

Dennis Fucking Rodman could become the arbiter of peace between the US and NK.

Right. Trumps going to start a nuclear war and murder hundreds of thousands just so he doesn't have to answer for the Russian inquiry. You guys are starting to become unhinged with this nonsense.

This thread really turned into a low-effort echo chamber.

Serious question: why threaten Guam? Is it just because it's in range?

Nukes for NK is simply the deterrent and they force other powers to take the regime seriously. They know the regime won't survive using them, they hope they survive building them.

No way Mattis is screaming for a preemptive strike, so as long as Trump has other things to tweet about, this is more of dick-measuring than actual threats.

    There are several reasons:

    1. Andersen AFB on Guam is home to the B-1 Lancers, the only supersonic bombers capable of delivering nuclear weapons.
    2. There is stockpile of strategic weaponry there
    3. It is also the logistics and refueling hub for all aircraft making the jump across the pacific.
    4. Naval Base Guam is home to a carrier group and several fast attack subs.
All of which would be used in the event of a large scale military event.

I mean, you can be snarky, but they each keep ramping up the rhetoric. It can all mean nothing. But neither of these guys has the personality to look weak or feel embarrassed should they back off of this situation.

I don't necessarily think Trump would launch a nuke as a first measure. But he could launch something at them and set off the reaction that escalates.

And yes, it would be a huge distraction. The media, congress and the general population love a good war. He starts this conflict, his approval numbers jump 10-15 points overnight.

I would give Trump and KJU the benefit of the doubt in terms of what they are actually willing to commit to, versus their respective public personas.

Also, there is literally nothing for the US to gain from initiating a war with NK, and tremendous amounts to lose: SK & Japan as allies, upsetting the balance of power in the region, potentially kicking off WW3 when Russia and China get involved and ensuring at the minimum a trade war with China that tanks both economies. Who is in a better position to survive this?. NK guarantees self-annihilation by firing the first shot.

Dick measuring between two people with admittedly few options. Trump might not be the diplomatic type, but he knows his best options are not military.

Theres nothing snarky about it, the last 10 pages or so have devolved into shit-posting all around. Anyway, to your point, the media is what scares me the most. Its interesting that regardless of who is in office, even Trump, they are ready and willing to sensationalize foreign issues in hopes that it escalates into a war because of ratings. Thats terrifying.

That was the UN, so since they just voted to sanction NK, then . . . maybe? Maybe that's why Nikki Haley is telling NK to get ready. The difference is, though, that Saddam actually used WMD's in the 80s, and the inability to determine if they still had them was what started the whole Iraq "reported" WMDs. I don't think NK has actually nuked anybody yet.

Is it shit-posting when the subject is actually a shithead? Is it media sensationalism when they're just quoting the guy verbatim?

Trump is a moron, we can ALL agree on that. He doesn't understand diplomacy, doesn't understand that *when you are the President*, there is no such thing as "bluster". Everything you say matters, any off the cuff declaration will be taken seriously by someone, friend or foe. Yes, this motherfucker might just start a war by openly threatening *another* thin-skinned power tripping ego maniac. For fuck's sake, where is Kelly? He's supposed to be the adult reigning him in.

Thinking THE MEDIA wants war for good ratings is not more rational than thinking Trump wants war for xyz.

Did you miss this on Monday?

"The country's top diplomat, Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho, said his country had no intention of using nuclear weapons against any country "except the US".

In a speech at the Association of Southeast Asian Nations in Manila, Philippines, he said North Korea is "ready to teach the US a severe lesson with is nuclear strategic force" and added that Pyongyang had already demonstrated the "entire US mainland is in our firing range"

How exactly does one correctly respond to rhetoric like that? Ignore it? Diplomatic sanctions? We've been doing that for how many years? That's what has gotten us in this mess we're in now with the Norks owning nuclear weapons, ICBMs. and reportedly the technology to marry the two.

It certainly is more rational. They dont necessarily want war, but they certainly relish in it. There's no downside for them for reporting on a foreign war. There is plenty of downside for an administration for starting one.
