Yes, ignore it. The biggest talkers are generally the weakest shitheads in the playground. If it were me, I'd address it by publicly asking every other neighboring country, allies or not, to consider the consequences of Pyongyang having access to a nuclear weapon that could hit their capitals and kill millions of their own people. I have faith in our military's ability to shoot down any missile North Korea would be stupid enough to launch. Besides, I don't think this is anything more than a distraction by Kim Jong Un to cow his people into submission. It's my understanding that South Korea has been slipping popular media through the border and the North Korean people are starting to realize how terribly they have it. What better way to remind the people that Dear Leader is the greatest than by saber rattling with the US? North Korea had to know Trump wasn't going to let some Asian computer nerd get the better of him, so of course they'd do this.
The correct response is whatever keeps us from starting or joining an INCREDIBLY stupid conflict. NK won't care, because the dead typically don't anymore. The rest of us will be left to deal with a very different world. Talking shit about "fire and fury", or drawing red lines in the sand (worked great in Syria) does not help.
This has already happened. Clinton (Bill) initiated bombing in Kosovo to take attention away from the Lewinsky scandal and it was a huge deal then. There was even a satirical movie made about it: 'Wag The Dog'. So I don't think it is far-fetched to think that Trump or any politician would start a war to deflect attention away from domestic issues. Shit, Trump accused Obama of doing this all the time.
"They don't necessarily want war." That's not what you said earlier. Arguing that THE MEDIA is hoping for war for ratings is not rational. Arguing that they don't necessarily want war, but they don't have a full understanding of the ramifications of their reporting is an entirely different thing.
Dude, I can't imagine anyone on Earth falling for that. Everyone has a vested interest in the status quo. Trump is not THAT stupid. Mattis is not THAT stupid. KJU is not THAT stupid. This is North Korea we're talking about. The equivalent of a Navy Seal with 345434543 confirmed kills threatening you on Xbox live. Our best effort is to reinforce how shitty things are there, how tenuous the regime is and how we should pressure the Chinese to do something about it. Responding to their threats at any level is legitimizing the regime and their presence in the region, which is the precise opposite of what we want to do. The "fire and fury" comment is playing into the hands of NK: they turn around and say, "LOOK! THE AMERICAN YANKEE PIG DOG IS THREATENING US! YOU NEED US AND BELOVED LEADER TO SURVIVE THEIR IMPENDING INVASION!" The move here is to make them look as weak and powerless as they actually are and de-escalate with their neighbors. Again: we are the world's uniquely most powerful force. There might be 8 countries that could threaten us and force us to raise an eyebrow. NK is not one of them, never has been. By reacting this way, we seem...provocable and weak.
Just when I thought nuance was lost on this place, I still occasionally get surprised. Tillerson came out this morning stating that there is no serious threat of Kim Jong Un launching an attack, particularly at Guam. However there were reports that there are two Ohio-class ballistic subs patrolling the Sea of Japan. Those are the tech that China and Russia worry about. One of those alone could level half of Asia.
Huh. BREAKING: FBI agents served search warrant at home of former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort, his spokesman says. https://twitter.com/AP_Politics/status/895291200525271044
This is kind of interesting, in that it's the day AFTER Manafort offered up the documents that he had. The fact that the raid came the following day, pre-dawn, kind of leads me to think that Meuller doesn't trust the guy was being as forthcoming as he wanted them to believe, and was holding back. Apparently that was the case, because they left with a bunch of files, some of which are reported to be notes he took during the Trump Jr. / Russia meeting.
When exactly was the last time you guys even had a GOOD attorney general? Before Coke came is plastic bottles, that I know.
Norks just said they plan to launch 4 missiles to land off the waters of Guam by mid August. I do believe that would be called an "Act of war." I would give those missiles very little chance of arriving and Fat Boy an even slimmer chance of seeing September.
I could only hope they just take out fat boy and NOT the country populated almost entirely by forcefully brainwashed hostages.
No kidding. Hopefully we have some secret bomb that only kills fat people...since he's the only fat ass in that country everyone else would be fine.
Since we're all just shit posting at this point, I might suggest doing away with that pussified Carter era moratorium on political assasinations? I know we drone people now but a good old fashion hit squad would be so fun!
Can't. Trump 's goal is to "make America great again." We need an enemy - Nazis, Ruskies, Saddam, Bin Laden - if he takes out Fat Boy before the whole country hates him for long enough, it won't help
