You mean when? 2020 is gonna be crazy, and I look forward to it. There's gonna be GOP members coming out of the woodwork to run against Trump. The dems might get things together by then but I'm not holding my breath and anticipating another shit show for them. However I think the real fun will be if an independent gains some serious traction, and I think that 2020 is the year you will see that happen. I'd say there's no chance trump gets re-elected, but then again everyone was wrong about him getting elected in the first place. Early prediction is Kasich/Haley 2020.
With as rabid supporters Trumps got in swing states I don't think you'll see any amount of opposition to him unless he does something to piss off his base hardcore supporters, who still do mental backflips at the speed of light to defend him. Cuban might be the only type of independent candidate that could gain traction. Two milquetoast career politician candidates like Kasich/Haley wouldn't get anywhere as people will once again resort to the tribal fact that supporting 3rd party would split the dem/repub tickets and guarantee a victory to your opponent.
I don't see the Trump machine geared to defend. I think he won by attacking (and getting unparalleled free media coverage), and assuming he makes it 4 years, he will have a minute group defending him and the media machine while still giving him outsized coverage, will notice a reduced effect. It's shocking for 8 months, after 4 years it'll be blase. Seriously, I'm not seeing his base defend him, and I'm not seeing anyone claiming they'd vote for him all over again. The Trump voter's position was much more "fuck Hillary" than, "he'll do great"...sure he SAID he'll do great, but he didn't really have a coherent sentence fall out of his face on how to do that.
Yes, that would be crazy to have like 17 candidates or something qualify to run. Oh wait. You may be right, but if the people that voted for him in the first election are satisfied - i.e. mostly the economy - and there are enough swing voters also satisfied, it will be challenging to overcome what will be the status quo at that point. It will take a dynamic candidate, like Booker plus a failure of whatever it is Trump is trying to accomplish.
I'm not so sure, who is there that could even be as bad as Hillary that's in the democrat party? I think people overestimate Trump's chances. The people that really like him are about 20-25% of the electorate. Then you have another 10-15% that are marginally approving of him. Unless he manages to do a lot more than he has been in his first year he's going to have a hard time. He broke records for low approval ratings of a president elect and it has gotten worse, not better. I think his best shot is if the economy is in really good shape around election time, and he can take credit for it, even if it has nothing to do with him. Voters tend to give presidents way too much credit and way too much blame for the current state of the economy. I feel like a lot of things are going to have to line up just right for Trump to serve two terms. All the democrats have to do is nominate someone who isn't an absolute train wreck. In more present news, Trump chooses to not certify the Iran deal. Pretty much what you would expect considering this is the closest he can get on a compromise between not breaking a campaign promise and not making a huge mistake. If the US does drop out of the deal (and I don't think we will, but it's not impossible)and Europe/Iran keeps it that would put the international community in an incredibly bizarre spot.
The whole Bill thing never happened. It was all a right wing conspiracy. Hillary only lost because she's a woman. Blah blah pizza gate. Innocent of all wrong doing. Oh, woe is me for having to see a sexual assaulter in the white house. She's now rambling about Putin again. Someone needs to tap her on the shoulder and say "Look Hillary, we know how desperate you are to remain relevant, but you need to shut the fuck up." I'm almost convinced she's trying to remind Trump voters to not feel too bad about their decision. Most annoying person ever. Anyway, looks the NFL is going to consider penalizing players for kneeling during the anthem. They care so much until it costs them a little money. This whole controversy has been so pointless.
It's interesting that every single trump supporter/voter I know has told me they wouldn't vote for him again (some said unless clinton was running against him, though in fairness I would vote for him under those circumstances now even though I voted clinton last time). Obviously a small sample size, but I'm curious what the rest of the board thinks? Does anyone think he has a shot at a second term? What about mid terms? Do y'all think we're in for a big shake up or is everyone gonna ignore them again?
Assuming he completes his first term, I think any charismatic person with a minimally impeachable character should easily win. A decent dem sending the right message and who will aggressively attack Trump in a no holds barred style would be ideal.
This is a very accurate statement as well as a very sad one. This is what it takes to be President of the US now. You have to be "minimally impeachable."
I say that because I know how cut throat the GOP is towards any kind of possible imperfection. Obama golfed. They shat on him endlessly for it. Now trump has golfed more than Obama ever did. GOP silent. It’s not about actual adherence to rules or decency. It’s just about relentless attacks on the other team. Someone who has the least amount of personal dirt will have a better time. The dems like to take the high road and try to be the adults in the room. They should stop pulling punches. Trump shouldn’t be tough to beat. He didn’t win anymore votes in the rust belt than Romney did. But less people showed up to vote for Hillary. African Americans showed up en masse to vote for Obama. They pretty much stayed home for Hillary. If that voting block went to the polls in large numbers, they would be a formidable politician force.
I agree, but attack him for the doofus he is. If they start just screaming "HE'S A RACIST!!!!" over and over again people are going to tune it out. All they should really have to do is point out how little he's done. Yes, but there are reasons attacks like that accomplished nothing and attacks on other politicians actually had an effect.
BWAHAHAHAHA! Colin Kaepernick files grievance with the NFL. This is too funny. Dude is a complete idiot. Yeah Colin, I'm sure it's a mass conspiracy that no team wants you. It can't be that you're an insufferable ass hat. No way. He wanted all that attention and now acts shocked that being a complete buffoon has consequences. Oh, sweet karmic justice. Have fun in the Canadian football league.
I saw that last night and thought it must have been an Onion article... I'm honestly curious how this would play out? Can they legally be told to hire the guy? What's the end game? How is it that teams can't hire or not hire whatever player they want? Especially after you've had a shitty year?
He has a tremendous burden of proof to prove they all conspired to NOT hire him. If all the teams happen to feel that he’s not worth hiring for x reason, that’s not collusion.
The NFL is legally structured as a trade association made of its members (i.e. the teams). Collusion laws still apply here, say if the teams colluded on pricing of merchandise or ticketing. That would classify the NFL operating as a cartel. As for players, he needs to prove that the member teams colluded against his employment for reasons not outlined in their bylaws. All they have to do is simply state that his player ability doesnt match up with their expectations. I *think* the NFL is incorporated in New York, which is an "at-will" state. In other words, hes shit out of luck.
I don't think Kaepernick has any interest in settlement money, and probably isn't even interested in winning the collusion case. He wants to bring into the public discussion some part of the CBA or his attorneys want access to files they otherwise wouldn't or some kind of fishing exercise, in order to bring awareness to what he believes is injustice.
I just think it's such a fitting end to a career douche. Delusional to the end. I'm sure part of this is him just wanting more attention and wanting to look like a martyr again. I legitimately feel bad for the people who are out of it enough to think "Yeah, no team wants him because they're all a bunch of racists." Which, you know people will believe... for whatever reason. He has no case at all, and no team is stupid enough to hire a mediocre not even good enough to start QB who brings so much baggage and a cancerous relationship with fans to boot. I think of all the NFL players I've seen ruin their careers in mind boggling stupid ways this takes the cake. Usually it's a poor decision made in the moment. This was a string of stupid decisions carried out over the course of more than a year. I think companies are finally starting to realize that people don't actually like the social justice weirdos. They're sick of their never ending bullshit infecting everything. Placating a bunch of whiny children is no way to run a business.
It's going to be very hard for him, because he's such a borderline player to begin with, so the teams have a ton of plausible deniability. Unless he has some leaked communications or the like, I doubt he gets anything out of this. For comparison, the MLB absolutely colluded to keep Barry Bonds off a roster during a time where he was definitively the best hitter in the game, and he offered to play for the league minimum. He still lost his collusion grievance.
Spurs' coach Gregg Popovich just said some very interesting things about Trump. It's relevant, because if Trump picks a fight with the NBA, he's gonna face some serious public backlash. Especially if the person he fights with is someone as respected in the NBA as Pop, who is also an Air Force Academy graduate, Air Force vet as well as a former spy.
