They're overstating the impact of these particular gubernatorial seats, but there are several things about this election that are very good signs for the Democrats going into 2018: Northam won +9 in a race that Republicans were considering winnable as late as election day. That outperforms Hillary's+5 in Virginia in 2016. Democratic vote share is up across the board from 2016, even in red districts Voter turnout in blue strongholds is way up. Democratic voters appear to have learned their lesson from 2016. Democrats captured 14 seats in the Virginia House of Delegates, with five more races too close to call. If they pick up 3 of those 5, they will have unexpectedly taken the majority. Is this the end of Trump? Of course not. But Democrats got exactly what they needed out of this election to head into 2018 on a strong footing.
All fair points. If anything, they needed the kick of encouragement, even if somewhat hollow. As long as they keep the Clinton camp at bay and have a workable message (which is something a full Republican control still cant muster up somehow) then they have a shot of winning the House with an 11% swing. The Senate would be much more difficult for Democrats I think. There just arent enough swing states on the docket for the midterm election. They would need to turn some very red states to do that.
They would need a Great Wave off Kanagawa election to take the Senate, but I think the House is now within striking distance.
So about that Alabama Senate race that was tied (edit, by some polls),last week, anyway... https://www.washingtonpost.com/inve...495878-c293-11e7-afe9-4f60b5a6c4a0_story.html
Wait she was..... ohhhhh.... oh that's bad. Has trump tweeted about this yet? Seems like a hornets nest he'd like to run into.
I think the GOP reaction to this is worth highlighting. Twitter thread of reactions of other state GOP leaders here.
This probably belongs in the unpopular opinion thread, but MLK really was a dick not deserving of his popularity I think. And Rosa Parks was a fraud (she wasn't the first one to protest that way, and she was an asshole).
I believe one of these professors emeriti even compared it to Joseph and Mary. You know because that bit of ephebophilia gave us the Lord Jesus, so it couldn't have been wrong. Of course if you know your bible then you know Joseph never fucked Mary, but you'd have to be a real Christian for that.
LOL it just occurred to me, Trump deleted his older tweets where he'd campaigned against Moore, so he can't even fall back on them to distance himself.
