Get the fuck out of town. And now they have to destroy the voting records as per what the GOP wanted before the election, yes? *snickering intensifies*
“Sassy” is a gay name to give a horse. I honestly think Trump may drop the N-bomb on Twitter at 2am tonight. It really could be that awesome.
Its just delicious. A democrat won in the one of the most conservative states in the country. The rest of the GOP should be running and screaming with their hair on fire and should begin to visibly distance themselves from Trump. Doesn't mean he will win a re-election though. He just squeaked it by against a fucking child-molester. Doug Jones should thank the black community who showed up huge today.
This needs to be forwarded and retweeted to every corner of this nation so people finally get the picture. Your "allies" will not save you.
Arizona, Nevada, Texas. If another Senate seat flips to the Dems, it's going to be because the Latino vote turns out bigger than ever before. If I were a republican senator, I would be trying to get DACA passed and if I were super cynical I would hope it was after the Republican primaries but before the general.
I mean, they narrowly won against a pedophile. I don’t think there is a lot of learning going on for anyone.
True. The victory came from a surge of black voters. They are still brimming with ignorant hicks there who had trouble deciding between the homophobic diddler who was kicked off the bench twice, or the guy who prosecuted the KKK “Four Little Girls” church bombing. When you consider that, it’s fucking INSANE to think it would be a close election at all but Alabama I guess.
Then again, perhaps it was only close because Alabama tries real hard to keep lots of people from voting: http://www.motherjones.com/politics...ession-tactics-pour-in-from-alabama-election/
Yes, but don't forget the Supreme Court sided with Alabama by deciding portions of the Voting Rights Act were unconstitutional just a few years ago. I believe the portions had to do with requiring federal oversight on enacting voting requirements like IDs. As far as I can tell Alabama needs federal oversight for everything. Jefferson County (Birmingham) has had federal oversight of the hiring and promotional selection processes for police and fire for decades because of accusations of sexism and racism.
We ought to change into a merit-based Republic where states have to meet a minimum standard to belong in the Union.
There was a ton of excitement leading up to the Alabama Senate race. Most of the people I know were Doug Jones supporters and many of them were pumped up about this race and candidate, including one woman who met him when he campaigned here. Typically more left leaning people here don't vote much because Alabama has a reputation for deep red. I know a lot of outsiders are cynical and are congradulating us for not electing a pedo, but I think this was a legit win with a candidate who was elected because he is well liked and ran a good campaign. There was a grassroots approach and a huge effort to connect with minorities. To be fair the sexual allegations probably gave a couple percent to Jones. He also is pretty damned moderate on issues which makes him a lot more palatable to people who are moderately conservative who might typically vote R but could be swayed. The people I know who are Moore supporters are so because they are either a Trump supporter and are simply voting party no matter what so that those ends can be served, or are a single voter issue, namely abortion. Down here religion is a community thing especially in rural areas (which we have a whole lot of), and religion and politics are tied really closely. You end up getting indoctrinated from infancy. Hell, I voted at a church and most of the voting sites I know are at churches. Is that normal in other places? As a result most Dems aren't serious contenders in most races because of the abortion issue. The R party knows this and has played it up for years, hence the importance of candidates being traditional values, family values, etc. It has gotten more extreme as they play to that base. In any event, I think Doug Jones will encourage minorities to vote more in the near future because their vote especially counted this time. We may have more Dems elected. Not sure how long the excitement will last. I mean, Gov Ivy restored voting rights to a bunch of people with felonies. Surely someone like that would be expected to vote regularly. I mean as long as they don't go back to prison.
