His father died in 1999. Trump was a famous businessman in the 80's. Daddy gave him something like $1M or so as a nest egg to start with (Much better then all the rest of us got), but he did manage to turn that nest egg over a few times.
And then he went bankrupt a few times along the way, ruined many investors while skating scot-free, sold his jets were in mid-flight, ripped people off with his stupid school, made a cameo in Hime Alone 2 and wrote a book called “The Art Of The Deal Is When Dad Dies With Half A Billion In Cash.” Lots of people became rich without being even close to as obnoxious, loathsome and megalomaniacal as his worthless con-artist ass is. Slimy enough that a salt shaker could kill him, I’ve known this for over three quarters of my life. He is a fucking cunt. Period. So your country made him the king of the world.
I'm not going to sit here and defend him because I'm not a fan of his either. I just get tired of all the absolute bullshit stuff that gets passed around on the internet.
There's just so much about him, his history, his businesses and how he came into money, that is still simply unknown. That's the biggest thing. Whether you're for him or against him or indifferent, you simply can't argue or even have an opinion on sound footing because the facts as we know them are nebulous at best. Everyone is wrong because no one is right. It's like we elected a straw man president. He is what you want him to be. Want America being great again? There's facts for that! Wanna watch the gorilla channel? Well, he tweets every morning before most people are awake -- what's the difference?
The first great thing to happen in 2018. Personally I think Netflix won it with their response. Though I'm sure SNL will have a take on it as well, which means our dear leader will have a take on SNL again, which means we're going to death spiral this shit until it isn't funny anymore.
The news is full attack dog on this one and I swear, this is the stuff that has me almost in tears laughing. That is one of my biggest problems with the tax bill, but seriously, where do the fuck was everyone when the Obama administration was adding that amount every year. There is a very disproportionate level of outrage. The bill adds $1.4 trillion over the course of a decade, and suddenly everyone is angry that this is the most irresponsible fiscal planning ever. Does this mean people are going to give a fuck when someone not named Trump is doing it? I hope?
Kampf, the Obama Administration was not adding this amount every year. There was a huge amount spent when He first got in trying to save the economy from the 2008 meltdown. Afterwards the amount being added to the deficit was decreasing each year until 2017. Mr. Trump is responsible for that year and now with this tax bill tax collections are estimated to go down by at least $150 billion dollars a year before a rebuilding of infrastructure, defense and a wall. https://www.marketwatch.com/story/us-ends-fiscal-2017-with-666-billion-budget-deficit-2017-10-20
Yes, they did. In his first term, that's about what they averaged. As the economy improved he was averaging more in the range of half a trillion per year instead of 1.4 trillion. So there's that. Ummm...improvement. Correct, and they never adjusted spending (or raised revenue) to roll it back. The idea that the debt didn't increase by the largest total amount in American history under Obama is patently false. Speaking of irresponsible tax cuts, here's what his managed to do in two years. So, it's nice people are upset Trump isn't balancing the deficit whatsoever, but maybe we could be a little more intellectually honest and not pretend this is something the left totally had under control.
No one said that... no one said that Obama was perfect, or even good when it came to the deficit. But a big part of the debt that Obama incurred actually had something to show for it, like improved health care, etc. And in some cases, like the health exchanges, the increased deficit was offset by incoming fees. He also had to deal with sequestration, and huge military spending. This tax bill seems to be more like taking out a cash advance on a credit card in order to give everyone a bonus. What's the benefit of it, besides that?
http://money.cnn.com/2018/01/05/investing/offshore-oil-drilling-safety-trump-bsee/index.html You're now throwing away all the safeguards that were put in place as a result of the Deepwater Horizon incident. Go You Guys!
Leave him alone. Trump is a “businessman”. And that automatically makes him better than anybody who isn’t a businessman. Besides, didn’t he already explain that humans can’t harm the environment, no matter what? An oil spill is basically a nothingburger.
Speaking of taxes...Remember when Seattle passed their $15 an hour minimum wage, giving every low wage employee about a $7 an hour raise? Well now they're hitting them right in the Gatorade with a $10 tax. It's kind of hard to be happy with an extra $7 an hour when your hours are cut and the city is taxing you even more. Seattle used to be such a nice city, but there's no way in hell I could even entertain the idea of living there now.
By most accounts, the forced "high" minimum wage is a failure. I think that what needs to happen is tighter legislation around companies that force their employees into using social services to make ends meet. There are companies that are taking advantage of existing labour laws, here in Canada as well as in the US, so that they end up paying less in taxes. It also results in more of their employees being on social assistance of some sort. If 80% of your workforce is working less than the minimum hours required to be considered "full time", because that would mean having to pay benefits and other "full-time" costs, then they should be forced into hiring those people full time... that kind of thing. I'm all for having a company make a profit... but it shouldn't be at the expense of society.
I agree with that 100%. Walmart is a prime example. I also read yesterday that Amazon is guilty of this too. They are one of the largest employers in Ohio and a high percentage of their employees are on gov't assistance.
The MBA's running the finance side of these companies are, for the most part, quite happy to follow the rules to their advantage. Even play in grey areas. Those rules got there for a reason... they just didn't happen magically... they were bought/lobbied and put in place so that those companies could benefit from them. We have to find politicians that are willing to fight back against that crap and look out after everyone... even if those people don't have lobbyists.
Most companies are not going to look out after the public good... they are, by law, mandated to maximize profit for their shareholders. That's what we need government for... as much as most Libertarianist think that it will self-regulate, it won't. Especially in an ever-increasing global economy. Environmental concerns (fracking, waste-water management, offshore drilling safety), labour laws, etc., are the areas that we need government to step in and actually do something beneficial for society as a whole.
