So, my state rep Trey Gowdy is leaving the field: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trey_Gowdy Funny how a lot of Republicans are retiring now, especially an oversight committee chair in a ruby red state. As a local, he is popular for the Benghazi uproar, and he unseated an environmental conservative (Bob Inglis, yes they exist). He had every reason to expect re-election and was considered a rising star in the party, with SC darlings like Nikki Haley (who is somehow Indian?), Lindsey Graham (that's a dude's name?) and Tim Scott guiding him along. https://qz.com/1194645/republican-trey-gowdy-steps-down/ I am trying very hard to be objective here. I am all for revising our laughable immigration policy, but to be fair the vast majority of illegals come in on a tourist visa and don't leave, same as any other country on Earth. A wall won't fix that. I long for the day when the liberals worry about the horrible shit happening to people, and not what demographic they are. A refusal to enforce sanctions against Russia? That there sounds like corruption to me. What's the damned good excuse to not enforce ANYTHING this Senate can pass 98-2? Crickets And Obama was talked out of (or blackmailed depending on who you read) acting on the Russia intel by McConnell, who got his wife a pretty sweet ass appointment out of the deal. Remember, this is the president that was basically ignored when he wanted to appoint a Supreme Court justice, one of the lamest of lame ducks. Can some lucidly explain to me, why oh FUCKING Why Hillary Clinton is still in the news? Mitt Romney's wife could shoot John McCain in the dick with John Kerry's gun and collectively we'd all shrug and half of us would go "who did what now?"
Hillary Clinton is still is the news for 2 reasons. Because Trump still uses her as fodder to make his base still fixate and hate her. Also today it was revealed that an FBI agent currently being dragged through the mud for being accused of intentionally trying to hurt Trump in the Mueller investigation was one of the authors of the letter that was submitted to Comey to reopen the Clinton email investigation.
A lot of Republicans are simply getting out of Dodge because shit's all fucked up, and it wouldn't surprise me if Gowdy were one of them, but the other possibility exists that he's positioning himself to take the AG slot when Sessions is eventually banished back to the Keebler Tree.
Yeah, I find it hard to believe he is retreating from public life. If you have seen him speak in chambers, he doesn't seem like the type of person to recoil from attention. EDIT: The other surprising thing I heard today, and maybe this occurred a while back, but Huma and the Weiner are staying together? It must be one of the storybook love stories that will never die, I guess. or it may be that spouses cannot be compelled to testify against each other but ex-spouses....not so much.
That’s some messed up shit. I still need to watch the documentary on him. With Hillary at least there was huge political capital staying with Bill. Wiener was an almost something before sex addiction fucked his and Huma’s spots in the most cataclysmic way possible. I don’t know how much staying together for the kid(s?) would even factor in.
Memo has been released: https://apps.washingtonpost.com/g/documents/national/read-the-gop-memo/2746/ Shockingly underwhelming.
Every shit-for-brain Trump supporter is saying that this “proves collusion” between FBI and DNC. The only proof that stands is that it was written by a Republican. Is there a memo to prove that this memo is true? Someone try and convince me that this thing wasn’t completely pulled out ass just to give Trump an excuse to fire Mueller. It’s beyond pathetic.
My favorite argument put forward in the memo is the argument that it is unacceptably biased that Steele, upon finding out that Trump was a traitor, didn't want him to become president. It's like Nassar's lawyer arguing that it is unacceptably biased for the judge, upon hearing the evidence, to not want Nassar babysitting her kids.
Well right now your mentally handicapped President is treating this like it’s the biggest smoking gun since Watergate. As predicted.
I think it’s the argument that the unverified peepee dossier, that even major news organizations wouldn’t touch, written by a spy (that as I understand it) had Kremlin sources feeding him some of the information in the report, was used as probable cause for a fisa warrant. The fact that it was funded through Hillary’s campaign doesn’t raise any eyebrows either? I’m sure we’ll get the other side of the story from the FBI which is what I’m waiting for before final judgment.
Honestly it doesn't really raise eyebrows for me. If the dossier was the only source of the Russia suspicions, then yes I'd be concerned, but Hillary's guy finding the same general stuff others found? It's what'd you'd expect.
The only cynical eyebrow raise I give it, is why the democrats were opposed to it being released. I don't think they were trying to protect Hillary, if it was based on her campaign's research. Don't they all hate her for losing? It's also weird that it has a link to a dossier that talks about Trump having kinky sex interests and it was ordered released by Trump.
Democrats were opposed because they (in my mind correctly) viewed it as part of an effort to obstruct justice by providing a pretense to fire Rosenstein and undermine the credibility of the Mueller investigation more generally. The logic Republicans are trying to push is: Steele dossier is only evidence for Trump-Russia --> Steele dossier is false --> investigation is baseless. Only problem with this logic is that non of its axioms are true. There were also concerns that the memo could release methods and sources, but if that's the case you'd have to have more starting information than I have to divine them because I couldn't suss any out.
It was the dems on the intel committee, many republicans in congress, and the FBI who didn't want it released because of it's glaring inaccuracies and omissions. The whole point of the memo is not that its a pile of hot garbage(it is), but they just needed to create a pretext to get rid of Rosenstein and find someone to fire Mueller. That and it was also written by someone who was supposedly recused from this matter all together. Additionally, when he was questioned on whether or not he worked with the white house in creating this memo, he refused to answer. Coulda just said no, but he didn't. So the house intel committee worked with the Trump to burn classified intelligence to help exonerate Trump. Also, the dems on the intel committee wrote a memo filling in the gaps left in the Nunes memo. It was 14 pages and had full citations and everything. It was voted to not be released by the intel committee. So they can release theirs, but no one elses?
"Isn't it a little far fetched to think the Republicans would use this as a pretense to go after Rosenst..." https://www.politico.com/story/2018/02/02/nunes-memo-treason-paul-gosar-386089 "...oh"
I like how they keep saying “evidence” as if some Three-page essay written by some bias asshole is concrete.
Page me when Trump actually follows through with your fears to fire Rosenstein and has Mueller axed. Instead of just bloviating congressmen. I too was a little confused as to the seeming lack top secret methods the memo contained. Feels like it was just empty rhetoric on the dems/Justice Department part.
For anyone who thought that the alleged conspiracy against Trump from... well almost everyone, was just too small to be believable, Nunes has got you: http://thehill.com/homenews/house/3...ing-at-state-dept-involvement-in-russia-probe
“We’re moving into Phase Two”. Wow.....he’s on it. I like how he chose to conduct “Phase Two” after the first one was released publicly and not before. Have to make sure the Idiot Base swollows the bullshit first. Which they did, of course. Gee....Maybe the next report will be over FOUR pages long. Who in the fuck besides Clarence Thomas writes a measly three-page memo about a sweeping government probe? This memo is an audit on stupid people. And they are failing spectacularly by buying into it. If people are so keen to believe any piece of paper, why don’t the Dems type up one the proves Trump bends toddlers over swing sets and rapes them? It’s on paper, according to current GOP logic that makes it evidence.
