Yet somehow areas that already allow this haven’t turned in Wild West shoot outs like the doomsayers proclaimed they would. This is where you insert that teacher freaking out the other day. Somehow with these super lax gun laws we are still at historically low murder rates. I don’t buy the militarization argument. They aren’t being deputized, they won’t have the same immunities police have. Van Jones argument this will end up with racist teachers smoking minority students because, racism, is absolute horseshit. If democracts stonewall legislation that includes this angle are they really trying to compromise or just playing politics until they can get their way 100%?
Tetris, duh. He used it to plan his mass graves more efficiently. Really pack them in there. We're at the point where current parents grew up playing these violent murder simulators. A few more decades and it'll be legislators. Assuming they didn't sell their souls in the process, we might actually see some proper lawmaking in our lifetime.
There is at least one good thing about people who think that video games and movies influence violence, pollution does no harm and marijuana should be a schedule one: They’re all going to be dead soon.
Spending public funds to arm teachers is not something I would like to do. But, I know for a fact that some of my teachers carried concealed.* Of course, this was 35 years ago. Also, I have two friends who are currently teachers and carry when at school. I guess it's just different in the rural south and our experiences color our opinions. A couple years ago, a teenager in my county made the local newspaper report, after being reprimanded by the school for leaving a rifle on the back seat, in plain view in the high school parking lot. She said she had been hunting the past weekend and forgot to take it out of the car. Teachers aren't cops, but they are citizens, who by constitutional right are allowed to have a gun in the US. But, I certainly agree that teachers are just as stupid as other citizens that I wouldn't want to be around if they had a gun. At the same time, there are some teachers I know that I trust with a gun more than some cops. * When I was in middle school and high school, my Latin teacher held informal shooting classes after school, on school property with the administration's knowledge.
The other thing I would love to see some investigation done on is the affect that the 24 hour bullshit news cycle has on this kind of thing. North American Main Stream Media is kind of unique in their approach to covering and sensationalizing these kinds of things. And Social Media. There's some weird combination of shitty parenting, 24 hour bullshit news, and social media that is causing all of this to warp way out of normalcy.
I'd also be curious to see this investigated in regards to a country whose head of state not only actively peddles large scale conspiracy theories, but enables large scale conspiracy theory peddlers (ie Infowars).
God, you guys are making me feel old. I had three years of Latin, two in middle school and one in high school.
Someone put up the figures that in 200 years we had something like 11 school shootings, then in the last 18 years we've had like 170. We've had guns that entire time. We've had semi autos well over 100 years and AR15's something like 50 years. The guns are not the problem. If they were, this problem would've raised itself long ago. What happened in the last 20 years to change everything? The internet. The 24 hour news cycle. Who would've thought that giving undeveloped minds unlimited access to violent videos, every crackpot idea that someone could post on a blog, unlimited porn, and a way to torment others 24/7 for the whole world to see would have a negative effect? Kids are fucked up by nature. They're trying to find their way in this world and how to fit in somewhere. If you're not good looking or athletic your teenage years are going to be difficult. So what are you going to do? Find like minded people that you fit in with....with the internet that's easy. There's plenty of disenfranchised kids out there who just want to fit in somewhere, anywhere. Now instead of figuring out how to actually function as a human being they end up in an echo chamber of equally fucked up kids who think shooting up their classmates is a good idea. Everyone is knee-jerking and raising the age to buy a rifle to 21. That's not going to stop shit. How about raising the age to use the internet to 18? No more porn, violent videos, and 24/7 access to like minded disenfranchised individuals.
Wasn't that the conclusion of the movie Bowling for Columbine, that people in the US keep shooting each other because they're so scared shitless due to sensationalized media? He's a fat socialist weasel but I remember that movie having some thought provoking points.
I was born in 83, my senior year of high school was 2002, guys having guns in cars during hunting season was completely normal. 2 years later my cousin was just about suspended and jailed for having a legally owned firearm in his car, for no other reason than “can’t have that now”. Personal responsibility has gone to shit in this country.
Whelp, since nobody would care whether any of those things were banned or not — and would never give any of them up no matter what, I guess your only hope is to go even harder: everyone in your country should stop having kids. Fuck ‘em. Do what the Chinese do and put a government-ordered, launch pad-style “hold” on all your country’s vaginas. Take a ten year break so young idiots and yokel trash can mature enough that when they do have kids, they won’t be watering down your tribe as much with a combination of horrible quality and over-quantity. Stop idiocracies that spread from the lowest common denominator who mate like fucking rabbits and spreading their demon seeds everywhere, meanwhile intelligent parents chose to have a manageable amount of children so they can raise them properly.
I think any root cause for the problem has to have, at its core, something that is unique to the United States. Violent video games, the internet, and tentacle porn (especially tentacle porn) are ubiquitous globally, not just in the United States.
Like the ubiquitous access to guns, failure to moderate or remove hate speech online enabling the radicalization of susceptible minds, the erosion of a social safety net and the division of a society of equals? The issue will persist as long as one identity is pitted against another one in utter isolation with their chance at the American dream at stake. God damn man, we as a country cant even agree to say "fuck russia" anymore...
I know you Canadians have heard of Jordan Peterson. I'm curious what the idiots have to say about him. In this clip he talks directly about the causality of events like Parkland and I think he is dead on. It's a bit long but anything by him is worth the listen.
