Don't get me wrong, I'm not going to accuse Trump of knowing what he's doing, but this was a teensy bit encouraging, after the last couple of weeks of cringe inducing trade news. China Offers to Buy Nearly $70 Billion of U.S. Products to Fend Off Trade Tariffs However, it does raise a problematic question. Is strong arming China into buying a bunch of crap they otherwise wouldn't want really a sustainable method towards balancing the trade deficit? At that point, without trade built upon corresponding competitive advantages isn't it a foundation built to collapse? I do think it at least shows that yes, we do have some serious leverage over China. The only other consumer market in the world that could fill the hole a US shift away from trade with China would create is the EU, and they are far harsher in their treatment towards China than any US administration has been for the last 40+ years, including the Trump administration.
So... in the world of Provincial politics, seems like we now have a majority PC Ontario government under Doug Ford. https://globalnews.ca/news/4257183/ontario-election-results-2018/# Should be interesting...
We’ll never be rid of this fucking family. It was a shit sandwich in any way this election, but Ford should change his last name to Voorhees. They’re never going away. I thought losing the Toronto election would finally limped the mouthy asshole to the barn.
I wish there was a "they are all shit" option on the ballot, but I still think he was the best choice compared to the others. Wynn is a fucking gong show, and Horvath is just retarded. I like what Ford did with Toronto... he ran it like a business (despite the Rob Ford Crack Hour fiasco), and I'm hoping he can do something similar for the province. Wynn's "let's just push everything back so you don't have to worry about it for 10 years after I'm gone" policy was a recipe for disaster... and Horvath's plans to expand government services rather than hold them accountable for what they've got now is another "feel good but will fuck you over" plan. But in other news, as of tonight we're now the first G7 nation to nationally legalize pot.
A resounding “meh”. Giving it squarely to the LCBO was one of most government-first crocks I’ve ever seen. I’m glad it’s not against the law, I’m happy to see at least SOMETHING like this before I died. But my issue putting anybody in jail for simply possessing it was a bitch move and always has been. What I hope for ultimately is for Julian Fantino’s pot shop to burn down while he’s inside of it.
I think the LCBO's days are numbered. It makes ZERO sense for them to have a monopoly on booze sales, especially when they have the labour issues they have. Open it up like every other fucking province... buy beer in corner stores... have cold beer and wine stores... it's just a Provincial cash grab so they maximize profits on the sin taxes.
That’s an American thing I’d like us to imitate: booze availability. I’m not talking about those crazy “Liquor World” warehouses but like you said: let us buy it in any stores like adults. I’d love to walk to get beer, and I’d love to buy it somewhere outside of a bar after the fucking sun is down. Also, the prices here are utterly ridiculous. Liquor is almost three times as cheap in Michigan which we border with. Fuck the LCBO. We pay more for beer made in our own fucking town than people hundreds, thousands of miles away do in another nation. That makes sense.
There are plenty of parts in the US with these antiquated blue laws. Living in Atlanta means no liquor in grocery stores. We’re just now getting used to buying booze on Sundays.
Very Interesting. Trump has asked NFL players to recommend people they believe have been treated unfairly by the justice system and a committee will look into their cases and either pardon or release them from prison if warranted.
I thought it was interesting. In a sort of put your money where your mouth is type play. As well as getting people to beg before him. Can’t have a gesture of good will without a little bit of kiss the rings thrown in there.
I swear, this stuff cracks me up. There are SO many problems with Trump, but the idea that he's out to get black people because they're too black isn't one of them. That was very thoughtful MSN. What the fuck is it you want again? Is it trials, investigations, body cams, the unwarranted shootings reduced to less than a handful per year? Speaking of NFL protests, Colin Kaepernick is at it again. Can somebody just beat the shit out of him already? I guess he needed something to do before he could celebrate this year's "Unthanksgiving."
So... Trump attacks Canada and the EU due to "National Security Reasons", but is now fighting to get Russia re-admitted to the G7 (G8). https://www.washingtonpost.com/busi...ory.html?noredirect=on&utm_term=.412b7f5efac7
It’s him grandstanding and acting like he’s doing something. Sure, they should go and tell him but him saying find people that were wrongfully convicted is an oversimplification of the problems people are talking about and this is, in my view, him not wanting to actually look at an issue but rather try to “win”. When there have been studies showing that black people serve longer sentences for drug crimes than white people for similar offenses (or the entire crack vs cocaine sentencing structures) those aren’t cases that warrant a pardon. Those are systemic issues that require in depth examination, rather than this guy who thinks by pardoning Joe Louis and Muhammad Ali he can act like he wouldn’t have been tweeting about them all say if they were around today.
And Manafort has now been hit with new charges... they seem pretty serious. Mueller has asked the judge to revoke bail and put him in jail. https://www.cnn.com/2018/06/08/politics/paul-manafort-indictment-robert-mueller/index.html The case now accuses both Manafort and Kilimnik, 48, of Moscow, of obstruction of justice and conspiracy to obstruct justice, meaning they allegedly worked together to contact two possible witnesses in Manafort's case since February.
It sure sounds to me like those are exactly the cases he'd like to hear about: “I’m going to ask all of those people to recommend to me — because that’s what they’re protesting — people that they think were unfairly treated by the justice system. And I understand that. I’m going to ask them to recommend to me people that were unfairly treated and I’m gonna take a look at those applications and if I find and my committee finds that they’ve been unfairly treated than we’ll pardon them. Or at least let them out.”
All I'm getting from reactions like this is that Trump essentially has the same relationship with democrats that Obama did with republicans. No matter what he does they will spin it into some nefarious. If liberals actually care about their purported values this isn't something they should be bitching about.
