Pruitt was a literal Captain Planet villain, and while Wheeler may be no better on the environmental front, at least he's not a threat to take over the AG position from Sessions and tank the Russia investigation. Plus he probably won't be quite as openly corrupt for personal gain, so that's about as good as you can expect from a Trump nominee.

Chicago protesters have shut down part of a highway in an anti-gun protest. I'm sure that after seeing this, all the criminals will put down their guns, stop gang banging, and decide to throw away their life of crime in favor of baking cookies for the neighbors and hugging random strangers.
I feel like there have been a lot of conservative members of this board saying instead of marching against police violence they should march against their own violence since it is worse. I’m glad to see they are listening.
They're demanding more gun laws because, you know, criminals are well known for their respect for the law so that will fix everything. Also more money. Lots more money. It seems to me that if they wanted to actually stop the violence they'd go into the violent neighborhoods, not stand in the middle of the interstate pissing random people off.
They don't go into the violent neighborhoods because they don't have guns to protect them. Had an interesting conversation with the guy selling me my new gun a few days ago. He said he only carries an extra magazine on him "when I'm going into sketchy areas." I suggested to him it might be wiser to just avoid going to those areas to begin with if they make you feel like your safety is at risk. His co-workers had a good laugh at his expense.
The idea of a second magazine is that most all jams happen because of the magazine, and most all jams can be cleared by removing the mag and inserting a new one. His thinking was that glocks never jam so he doesn’t need to carry a backup. My thinking is that glocks only jam when it’s least convenient for you.
Logically then one should always carry a second mag or never carry one (depending on how one assesses the risk of jamming). Carrying a second one situationally doesn't make a lick of god damn sense.
That’s what most intelligent people do. My wife asked me why I need 30 rounds on me. I don’t. But I need a second magazine.
For those on the “restricting gun rights” side of the gun debate, I know I’m hitting a hornet’s nest here but I’d like to hear the viewpoints and how y’all came to that? Specifically, I’m interested in the informed opinions regarding the proposed “assault rifle ban” and the ban on “high capacity magazines.” And other ideas of course, but those two seem to be the biggies. I’ve just seen and heard so much propaganda from both sides, that I’m curious to hear the rationale from informed people who look at it logically, which I think this board is mainly comprised of. Or maybe I’m asking too much?
"Blame someone else": It's far easier and helps you forget you're actually part of the problem. And always will be until the "I didn't see nuthin'." is set aside.
Nobody cares about problematic neighborhoods. You really think the residents of Watts have any influence on public policy? You think it’d be covered by the media? They’re not necessarily blaming others as much as they’re dissenting where they’d get maximum exposure.
My version of fun control (autocorrect fail but I will leave it) is thus: have a national licensing standard, instead of the current piecemeal system where each state does its own thing. People loooove to bring up Chicago's gun crime rate despite its high standards, ignoring the low standard states next door. Same thing with NY and guns imported from down south. A national standard modeled on a state like CT or MA would serve to level things out, make it safer overall. Assault weapons ban? What the fuck is an assault weapon? I'm not scared of foregrips and collapsible stocks that have zero real effect on the deadliness of the weapon. Legislation should never be based on fear. As for high capacity magazines, I take it 30 innocent victims is a horrible tragedy, but 7 is perfectly fine? End of the day, I want as much or as little gun legislation as it takes to prevent the next psycho idiot from venting his racist, sexist, stalkerish, crazy ex-bf, bullied HS student feefees by shooting anyone besides his own dumb self.
I'm talking about cooperating when the police try to put the bad guys away. In some of these neighborhoods you could have 30 people present when something happens. But the minute the cops show up, suddenly no one saw a thing.
Would you chalk that up to complicity or fear? Do you think that maybe fear of reprisal (assuming this is in a high crime area) prevents people from wanting to cooperate?
The recent murder of Lesandro Santos is a perfect example of this. Kid gets mistaken for a different punk who filmed himself banging a gangster's sister, gang chases him into a bodega where the owner practically hands him over to the gang because "he doesn't want any trouble". Gang proceeds to put a machete thru his neck and run off. A disappointing number of people would've done the same, by their own admission. After all, save the kid from the gang and they might come for you next, right? And yet I can't really judge. I grew up in the "bad" Bronx, and Priority 1 was keeping yourself off the bad guys' radar.
This is kind of old news, but I really didn't understand how bat shit insane Maxine Waters is until I saw this. Go to 2:35 for crazy. That is so irresponsible for a politician. Yeah, I really agree with this. I'm not sure gun control is going to be very effective regardless, but it is borderline pointless when someone can drive an hour over the state line and buy guns that are banned in the city they live in. Sure, people can be mad at [insert state] but what the fuck did you think was going to happen?
