Honestly, I just think she's a dunce. An extremely annoying one, but no, I don't take that "she's going to start a civil war" shit seriously if that's what you're wondering.
Ill weigh in on that, since I have an LTC in both CT and MA. Both of those states, MA in particular, have placed the responsibility of vetting and distribution of licenses on local law enforcement. In any given town, the chief of police has full discretion on whether or not to give you a LTC or FID, and can deny licensing for absolutely no reason. In Boston, its quite difficult to get an LTC Class A and you are met contemptuous hesitation, if not direct hostility, during the process. In the town I live in now, its a piece of cake. There is zero basis for such a procedural discrepancy other than power tripping cops. At the state level, you have an idiotic Attorney General who doesn't know jack shit about firearms but gets to circumvent state legislature and effectively pass her own laws on guns based on what she thinks looks scary. A national model based on either state would be retarded.
I just find any objection to what she said, after everything we've seen out of Trump, to be massively disingenuous. I don't think she's a particularly good congresswoman on the broader merits, but I give her credit for being one of the few people of influence to stand up and say "You know what, no, fuck these people and the horse they rode in on. Don't give them an inch."
Ok, but you say some variation of this practically every other day. "Good for so and so for being such a cunt." Maybe when you're celebrating their cuntiness that often it's actually not so rare. Just saying. Really though, what she's encouraging people to do is just acting like a bunch of assholes for the sake of being assholes. It's not going to accomplish anything positive. I'm not sold on the idea that the cure to our jackass problem is more jackasses.
No one ever sues for peace while they're winning. The more that members of the administration feel deeply uncomfortable in their work, in their personal lives, and in their legacies, the better for the country.
Or it just gets them re-elected. On that note, I’m starting to think the media needs Trump to be re-elected to have something interesting to report on and fill the the 24/7 news cycle.
I actually quite enjoy the open sewer that American politics has become. I hope it continues after Trump as well. I'm sure it will, there is no reason to come together anymore as the legacy media is quick to point out. One side disagrees with the other and instead of chalking it up to a disagreement, it's clearly a case of stupidity or just pure evil. Hell, ideally we can get this to look like Filipino politics, shootings and all. That may be our best bet at real change.
The media will always love a spectacle; that's been true since the USS Maine. Part of being a citizen and an adult is understanding how to critically consume media, and not just throw your hands up in the air and say "it's all hogwash!"
Heh. Interesting example, considering some theories have the federal government in a conspiracy with the media over the explosion as a false flag.
I mean I did pick it for its use as an exemplar of "runaway media spectacle of dubious journalistic merit." Being a full on conspiracy would only bolster that point.
Converting Trump voters is neither necessary, tactically wise, nor I suspect even possible. Democrats just need to get their own base to the polls.
I love this market, everyone thinks the sky’s the limit- Tariffs? Blah who cares about inflation? Global trading partners? Fuck’m! I’m shorting the absolute shit out of this market. It may not crash tomorrow or next week, but it’s coming and I can’t wait til the emporer no longer has clothes.
It I too have a MA LTC, being fortunate enough to live on the CT border in a right-leaning town. I'm not OK with "may issue", it's a bullshit clause. Remove that however, and I think our system would be ideal.
Better how? I think there's a difference between satisfying and actual improvement. I can't see how embarrassing protests and harassment are going to help the left. If anything it's going to get more republicans to the polls. I know people don't want to admit it, but the constant asshole behavior and tantrum throwing is part of what boosted Trump to victory. Then again, by November 2020 people are going to remember all the stupid shit Trump did and said 100x more than this so if the idea is to fuck with them just because then maybe it won't matter, but it could hurt a bit come midterms. Well, that would be a change. I haven't followed the Philippines as closely but Mexico has had more than 80 political candidates killed this election season, mostly by the cartel, and they are far from the most fubared central American government. I don't like our politicians being in the pockets of corporations, but I'll take microsoft and nike over the guys who kidnap and torture people to death. Chaos vacuums tend to not give rise to level headed policy wonks.
Be careful, remember the old and true saying "the market can remain irrational longer than you can stay solvent."
Brett Kavanaugh tapped to replace Kennedy. Interesting and probably not at all coincidental that both Gorsuch and Kavanaugh were both clerks for Kennedy. Either way, not a bad pick.
I can't help but think that the federal courts are becoming a bit of a joke. The fact that 4 of the sitting judges ruled against the travel ban is absurd. Before that they almost ruled Obamacare unconstitutional. I'm sorry, in what way does the constitution AT ALL meaningfully address that issue? How the fuck are cases like that even going to the courts? At this point they're not interpreting the law, they're just flat out making shit up and ruling on their personal beliefs. You can craft any vague argument you want based on the 1st, 9th, 10th, etc amendments, but the point of the supreme court isn't for the judges to read their own bullshit between the lines. It's to uphold the law as it is written, and turning it into a partisan cluster fuck is one of the worst things to happen to the federal government over the last 20 years. Conservatives have used the argument that their judges are better because they stick closer to the text, but honestly I've seen them pull the same bullshit. Overall I don't think Trump's appointments have been that bad, especially compared to some of his others, but how they got there (or how at least one of them got there) is going to be an area of bitterness for a long time.
