Neither. It's a gut feeling based on the belief that Trump is the only blithering moron in the place, and he's surrounded by people much smarter who know exactly how to get out of him whatever policy they've had their eyes on. Miller, for example. I wouldn't put it past these Rasputins to "feed the beast" a little something, bait some outrage, pin some false hope. I mean, here we are ecstatic over being told exactly what we wanted to hear.
Certainly will give him more credence since the claims are so vague. Also gives him cover to purge non loyalists around him.
A Senior White House Official means a Trump hire (or the most salacious possibility of all, the only other elected official in the Executive...). David Frum makes some pretty solid points against the op-ed writer, none of which reflect well on Trump either. The real take away from the op-ed is that Trump's own team by their words say he's unfit for office, and by their actions prove he's unfit for office because he can't manage a White House much less a country.
Rosenstein doesn't work for the White House, he works in the DoJ. Same thing with Perry (DoE) and Director of ICE (Homeland Security).
I know it's basically a cliche at this point that the Republicans project like an IMAX theater and them accusing the Democrats of doing something should be court admissible evidence as a confession that they themselves are doing it... but even I didn't see that extending to "deep state coup."
Roy Moore is suing Sasha Baron Coen for defamation, which is funny since it’s impossible to make him look worse than he already is. What, did the appearance get him removed from the bench for a third time?
Regardless of who the op-ed author was, I'm kind of aligning with the current backlash that is bubbling up. The author is no hero, they're a coward. If they want to be considered a hero, then stand up in public and say that shit... otherwise, I tend to agree with Nate Silver on this, that it's someone who is looking to get outed, but with a big book advance before they do. What they're saying really comes as no surprise, except for the active contemplation of the 25th Amendment. And who knows if that's even true... it's not like anyone has come forward and said as much publicly. lt'll be interesting to see how this plays out.
Found a comment on Reddit that expresses my sentiments better than I have so far: To be clear, ours is not the popular “resistance” of the left. We want the administration to succeed and think that many of its policies have already made America safer and more prosperous. The erratic behavior would be more concerning if it weren’t for **unsung heroes** in and around the White House. Some of his aides have been cast as villains by the media. But in private, they have gone to great lengths to keep bad decisions contained to the West Wing, though they are clearly not always successful. How dare you. How fucking dare you. If the president is as insane as you claim he is, the only possible remedy is to come out with it, say it publicly, and let our democracy decide what to do. Anything less than that is a coup (if one with a slightly different flavor than the one being carried out by Russia). If the 25th amendment needs to be invoked, it is by your silence that the American people have been denied the chance to demand it. You're not part of "The Resistance". What you're part of is the greater effort by the GOP to take advantage of Putin's money and Donald Trump's criminal rise to power, for your personal gain. What you're doing (as I suspect you damn well know) is helping the GOP ram a cruel agenda through our system, and rob the American people of their wealth, their representation, and their basic dignity for generations to come, while trying to pin the blame for it on Trump. You do not get to unilaterally decide that it's your responsibility to be Secret President on behalf of this monster. You do not get to use your position to live out this weird spy thriller novel that you've written yourself into, and tell me that I should be grateful for it. You do not get to risk our lives, our values, our electoral integrity, hell, our national sovereignty, just so you can try to rehabilitate your terminally corrupt party. Resign. Confess. And never work in politics again.
You can’t write something like that in this day and age and not expect to get outed, and soon. This is a not-so-master plan of a possible famehound trying to deflect an incoming shitstorm by trying to play this goodguy double agent pandering to general frustrations. I’m hoping the NYT has the sense to have a more established mole than some pretentious intern. “The Resistance”. The cringe that delivers turns my spine into glass. Go get you red boots and cape on, superguy.
Yeah, you don’t get play Resistance against a duly elected President. This official should be jailed. If it so important, what are the specifics? Why are you such a hero? Sounds like the usual dubious credibility from the NYT, and considering they’re now adding bigots to their editorial board, its not surprising. A little elaboration would go a long way for making the case here. I want to know what super dangerous things they prevented Trump from doing. Impeachment and the 25th Amendment are thrown around way too casually.
I agree with this sentiment too. This little op-ed just shows that the Republican party sees Trump as a useful idiot. They'll gladly use him to pass legislation they want, pack the courts with uber-conservative judges and shrink the EPA. If you really wanted to resist Trump then you need to quit the administration and come out publicly with all the horrible shit that is going on behind close doors. What pathetic nonsense.
When it rains it pours endless asteroids of political news. Cory Booker in shrewd political posturing released confidential emails. I have no doubt it was purely self promoting for 2020. Not much they can actually do to stop the nomination so might as well play to the base.
I read through the released emails, what is the big deal supposed to be? That after 9/11, law enforcement should pay special focus to Islamic groups and recent immigrants?
The Democrats are also trying to make the point that nothing in these confidential documents should be considered confidential, and it's just the Republicans trying to hide Kavanaugh's record from the public.
What does confidential even mean if docs arent explicitly classified? Thats a confusing aspect of this whole thing. Well Republicans are trying to railroad him through the process on the off-chance they lose the Senate. The Democrats are posturing for 2020. Wont matter though, I think the vote is by the end of the month.
I feel like the vote is already locked up for Kavanaugh. Not much can derail his nomination at this point. If people on the left are truly pissed about this guy getting on the bench, they need to get out and vote. Republicans are much better at the political long game with matters like this. They know the key to winning overall is to get judges they like.
It was up to the George W Bush library reps (Bill Burck) and DoJ to clear the emails for release, which they worked to do last night, after Booker brought it up yesterday. The emails were cleared early this morning, and Booker was informed. So, I guess Booker threatening to face the penalties and ousting from the Senate was just campaigning for 2020? Good move by him, to take advantage of the spotlight.
His record is pretty clean, there isnt much reason to not confirm him. Now if RGB retires or passes away during Trumps term, all hell will break loose.
