It's a radical plan. Some of it is questionable, some of it I really like. Republicans are sick of their party too, for very good reasons.
Yes, it is. Under the guise of keeping blobs of cells alive just long enough to deny them and their mothers food stamps.
You're a complete fucking idiot. Good for you. Start respecting other people's beliefs or the left will never get anywhere. That's reality slapping you in the face and this country needs it, big time. Edit: I'm being a shithead. My bad.
Look I know Trump sucks, but there is no dialogue in this country because it's all spin and wishy washy 'we're better than them' thinking. It's what got us here.
I'm crazy? How can I come to any other conclusion when I look at the whole of the anti-abortion platform? I've said this so many goddamn times: If the anti-abortion movement really cared about saving the lives of the 'unborn' above all else, they would not only support outlawing abortions, but they would support measures that would reduce the demand for abortions: free and easy access to birth control, comprehensive sex-education, and support for low-income and single mothers. But because they're against all of those things - especially the first two - I'm forced to conclude that their goal isn't protecting the lives of the unborn at all costs, but something else. And when you add all for things together - outlawing abortion, restricted access to birth control, abstinence only sex-education, and the diminishing of the social safety net - the one commonality among all of them is that they negatively impact the lives of women. Therefore, the logical conclusion is that the primary goal of the anti-abortion/pro-life/Right is the dis-empowerment of women.
I think a lot of people also feel like she might have been handed her success on Bill's coattails. She's always been known for being a naked panderer. I don't think any of that means she's not qualified, but I don't think she could have done it on her own. She's had an honesty problem for so long. Not that Trump hasn't, but he doesn't try to hide his crazy. People want to like their candidate. Its not always about who is best qualified. Her career is far more distinguished than Obama's. He was a junior senator. He got elected and the re-elected. He's likable and probably one of the best orators of our time. That means something to people. Yesterday, she was obviously reading names of down ticket candidates off a note card. Trump speaks in a style that a lot of average joe's can identify with. He calls her on her bullshit in a big way when no one else really has. That means something to people.
Trakiel - A lot of what you're talking about is republicans pandering to a certain section of their base. A lot of what you're talking about also never happens fully, but amounts to a lot of annoying meddling. Consider it. Most republicans I know don't care about abstinence, use birth control, and are for sex education. There are deep red states that do go full tilt insanity on these issues.
That's weird. Every republican I know, and I live in MO which has been a red state as long as I remember, is for exactly that. You shouldn't need birth control because god said no sex before marriage, living together before marriage is living in sin, etc. I'm not saying it's everyone but don't pretend like these people don't exist, I deal with them on the daily.
Its kind of the problem all over though. People only want to give their opinions and not hear the other side because they are so certain of their moral superiority. I feel like the left is especially guilty of this and its evident in places like college campuses where conservative speakers are canceled or threatened. Their security requirements are increased and the fees increased. People are being told they aren't worth being listened to and they are angry.
And that is straight retarded that they think that, but it's too easy to generalize now because people want to generalize. Or brand something as awful. People need to breathe and start talking to the other side. They need to start explaining themselves without being so pissed off all the time.
These people exist absolutely. When my wife and I weren't married but living together for a few years it never occurred to me why my father in law never came by, not that I cared we don't see eye to eye an most anything but I asked my wife about it after he was a no show for her birthday, we were "living in sin" so he couldn't come over. On another note, all hail Trump.
Glenn Beck, of all people, said this earlier on NBC and it might have been the most important thing said all night.
Honestly, I have tried this, I can't even find a common ground to begin with. I expect to be debating the efficacy of a Manhattan Project style investment into fission and fusion research vs a market based approach of taxing coal/oil/natural gas and trying to internalize the externality of CO2 emissions. And I'm met with "global warming is a Chinese hoax." I expect to be discussing how best to deal with automation and a post scarcity economy, talking about things like whether a universal income is viable, or if humans will always find new ways to create value out of their labor. And I'm met with delusions of having high paying manufacturing jobs support the entire rust belt again. I expect to be discussing what sacrifices we are willing to make, and which government spending we find legitimately valuable, in an effort to get spending roughly in balance with tax revenues. And I'm met with slashing tax rates, increasing military spending, and not touching a single cent of the medicare and social security benefits promised to boomers. I literally cannot even find a place to start with the rampant denial of reality on the right.
