There needs to be some sort of widespread backlash against pretty much all of these goddamn “groups” who feel they both have authority and are owed respect and apologies. None of them have real leadership so the mouthiest, most obnoxious ones step up to fill the void (see: OWS). They cause so much chaos and their once-noble message is immedietly treashed by kangaroo courts and an open membership that never gets vetted. We need to bring back hobbies again. Instead of going to protests and meetings on their own time to fill their life-void, try fishing or woodworking or building a car from scratch. It’s better than hunting through your smartphone looking for shit to set you off.
Trump began his speech to the UN General Assembly by saying that his administration "has accomplished more than almost any administration in the history of our Country." The diplomats promptly laughed at him. He continued. "So true. Didn't expect that reaction." This idiot genuinely thinks he's doing a good job. Like a kid who shits in the middle of the floor and wants you to be proud because he didn't shit in his pants.
But guys I'm just impressed he found a literal way to accomplish that TcT. "How could you possibly find a literal example of the whole world laughing at him?" "Well what if the actual UN general assembly laughed in his face?" "...genius."
Can anyone who is convinced these women are lying tell me why you find them less credible than Kavanaugh, who has come off like a disingenuous hack since the very start of this nomination process? "no president has ever consulted more widely, or talked with more people from more backgrounds, to seek input about a Supreme Court nomination," can't remember shit about his time in the Bush White House, has no idea how those hacked documents ended up in his email inbox, was a virgin until his second child was born, included that girl's name in his yearbook because of his "deep respect" for her, etc. Dude is the least credible person in this story.
This is their last chance. If they lose the senate, they won't be able to confirm a hardline rightwinger for a long time. There could be a video of him throatfucking a toddler, but as long as he can protect Trump and possibly overturn Roe, they will run him. For McConnell, its a win/win in a way. He just needs to get him to a vote, even if he doesn't get a majority. If he gets confirmed, they win. If he doesn't get confirmed, it fires up the voters to show up at the midterms to hopefully retain the majority. An angry voting populace is a win.
How can you say these women are credible? The two we know about have had ZERO people corroborate their claims. The first one named 3 guys and 1 girl that were at the house. None of them know what she's talking about. The second one was admittedly drunk and had hazy recollections until she spent 6 days with her lawyer and came away convinced it was Kavanaugh. This incident was supposedly in a house full of people. No one recalls it. So far it's like the Salem Witch Trials. Zero evidence. But plenty of people howling that he's somehow guilty. We'll see what happens with Avenatti and his claim that Kavanaugh was part of some sort of rape posse. I have my doubts.
I'm not saying he's definitely guilty, but I'm seeing a lot of people here and elsewhere convinced these women are lying. From where I'm sitting its largely a they said/he said between a few people of unknown credibility and a guy I wouldn't trust to tell me the weather.
That’s the issue I have with him. It’s ok if I disagree with him, if my viewpoint differs, but it’s not okay that he’s a lying, untrustworthy creep. Kinda like Bernie Sanders. I disagreed with the guy on like 98% of his policies. But at least he was genuine, and he had good intentions, and he wasn’t a sack of shit. Everyone has the right to their own opinion. But they shouldn’t have the right to be dicks to others.
This quote tells me that Republicans really have zero fear of reminding the public how hypocritical they are. This is a full embrace of the "We don't care what the opposition thinks, and our base will never punish us for our failings" strategy that can't be good for the future of things.
Far more likely is that the Republicans shove through anyone they can during the lame duck session. If by some miracle the seat is still open when the new Senate sits, they damn well better reject any nominee not named Garland.
There's nothing stopping them other than fear of electoral repercussions in 2020 or later. And given that a Republican Senator who punts on an opportunity to put an anti-Roe justice on the court will likely be torn limb from limb by his base, I can't imagine there's much to fear.
I'm leaning slightly towards guilty because I find the second accuser way more credible than Ford. Even so, her memory of the event is when she was so trashed she could barely stand and was allegedly around several people, none of whom have been able to directly corroborate, or she hasn't named them yet. A lot of the 'proof' that is supposed to make Kavanaugh look guilty is completely meaningless to me. His ex-roommate who admitted to not being very close to him said he got hammered in college and he believes his friend Debbie. I don't understand why people like this are coming out of the woodworks. I think pretty much the same of all the women who signed the letter vouching for Kavanaugh. Really, all 65(if I remember the number right?) knew Kavanaugh so well? Then of course, there was an equivalent letter for Ford. I imagine most of these people mean well, but they're just making it even more of a freak show than it already was. If there was ever a case where people shouldn't be acting like they know what happened, this fits the bill, but of course it's about winning and losing because none of the protesters yelling outside on capitol hill know shit at this point. Isn't that coming out tomorrow with Avenatti? Seriously though, with regard to his past as a judge I read some of his rulings and I'm not seeing this hardline monster you all speak of. I do remember the democrats crazily slinging shit at him hoping something would stick. I remember Harris lied about his opinion ruling and statements on birth control. I remember Booker carelessly releasing a number of e-mails that proved he lied about his involvement in certain nominees, and then left wing media outlets claiming the same, except the e-mails they released not errrr "totally proving that, but it uh raises questions?" I mean, the ones I read suggested the opposite of their narrative. But wait, there's another batch proving he supports racial profiling. Was is it - this? So right after 9/11 when the whole country was going nuts with paranoia about terrorism, this asshole dared raise the question, of how we move toward a more race neutral program when implementing security measures? I'm not seeing the vehement racist here, although so many news organizations apparently have. Hmmm.... it's probably better to just keep it vague. He supports racial profiling, clearly, and I'm sure that's especially true when he demands the police target black people. Narratives, you know. I couldn't slog through all of the bullshit accusations the democrat senators made, but I saw them betting pretty hard (and were likely correct) that most people wouldn't check into it. I don't for a moment think Booker, or Harris is actually that stupid, and that they read the same "proof" and drew some of the conclusions they purported. I saw the democrats trying their best to paint a picture of a far right racist religious nut, and playing very loose with the facts to do so. Perhaps, lying their asses off with no shame would be more accurate at times. Maybe I'm wrong though, what is it about his judicial record that makes so many people think he's a far right looney? I would at least give you I find his opinions on the Patriot Act troubling, and have little doubt it'll continue to get his support from the bench. Sadly, many Americans support it, but then immediately hate it when the 'wrong' party is in charge of it. In any case, I'm quite comfortable saying the democrat senate took their integrity down a couple notches, again, to create as much fear mongering and paranoia as possible, again. So they're not as bad as the republicans. Cool, but it's like saying horse piss tastes better than bleach. If Kavanaugh sexually assaulted all these women, it should disqualify him. McConnell really seems to want that vote to happen Friday, as if that were the day the republican majority ends. It looks like he's more concerned with what else might come out. It's not like an investigation and additional hearings need to be a multi-year probe. Still though, I think it's kind of sad that instead of wanting to see justice or pursue truth so many people are crossing their fingers hoping some girl got raped because it might save us from the judge who's going to take all of their rights away.
Whenever somebody gets nominated for something, they get vetted and questioned and accused. So with all these accusations and questioning throughout the years, why has not one single politician uttered a question even remotely close to any political/judicial over the years along the lines of: “According to your religious beliefs, it appears you’re fucking nuts. How can you dare be a judge who demands proof and evidence, yet you want to change the laws to satisfy something whose existence has never been proven?” We’ll rip apart somebody’s sexual history like it’s tissue paper but let’s never dare discuss their Maginary friends. Because having a guy run for President thinking he’s wearing magical (and bulletproof) Fruit-Of-The-Looms isn’t weird at all.
