I heard Glenn Beck on the Adam Carolla podcast last month where he was talking about his new book, Liars. He basically said he had an epiphany and was sick of all the bullshit... it sounded like he was done with the extremism that current politics has become. He also said he had learned a ton from Obama, and he did some introspection that really made him reevaluate his position on a bunch of things. It was not the typical Glenn Beck you're used to seeing/hearing, and was quite surprising. More than anything, he sounded tired.
This is going to be my last post in this thread. There is no dialogue because a subsect of the Republican party refuses to listen to facts. They listen to their feelings. They are just big enough and plenty loud enough to hold their party hostage. When a member of Congress holds a snow ball on the floor and points to it as proof that climate change is a myth, you have failed as an electorate. For all of the shit the left gets, their modus operandi isn't legislating morality. Give me a party that wants to make people more equal in the eyes of the law, believes in science, gives corporations and the mega rich a swift kick in the ass, takes guns away from the unhinged or on no fly lists, and leaves my wife and daughter's bodies alone. I have tried to be open-minded to people on the right, but when presented with facts from Breitbart and Stormfront as rebuttals, I can't.
1. If they're pandering to it, they're supporting it. That some of them might not personally believe it is no excuse if they're actively empowering those who do. 2. It's not just "a lot of annoying meddling". All these state laws that are making it more and more difficult for women to obtain abortions, obtain birth control, reduce sex-education, have real consequences for real people. Audrey has elaborated on them before. Here's the thing. You may claim to be pro-choice, but if you give support to a lawmaker who's anti-choice, that means you're either a liar about being pro-choice, or more likely truly just ambivalent about it. But don't call yourself pro-choice if the actions you take are in opposition to it. Personal "all other things being equal" beliefs really don't amount to anything.
That is an incredibly simplistic and unrealistic outlook on it. If being pro-choice was the only issue at hand or being voted on, then that may be the case... but in a nuanced and complex situation where there are a mixture of issues and stances that have to be taken into account, that's just silly.
It's a 'simplistic' outlook because it's really that simple. Nor is it silly. I think just about everyone on this board has personally expressed that their personal beliefs do not neatly align with either Republican or Democrat, Liberal or Conservative. So what do we do? We prioritize. We decide which issues are most important to us and make our decisions accordingly. All I'm saying, is just fucking be honest about it. If you (not you personally) voted for Trump in spite of all the horrible shit he's said about women & minorities don't sit there and make excuses for him, "he doesn't mean it", "he's just trying to rile people up", "that's how men talk in locker rooms", just fucking own it. Have the balls to say, "Yeah he said all that horrible shit, but that's not as important to me as what I think he's going to do to benefit me/further my beliefs." Then suck it up and take the criticism that may come your way.
I can be "pro-choice" and have it not be my highest priority, despite what you think. So no, it's not that simple. This shit isn't black or white... all-in or nothing... it's prioritized a-la-cart. If you think it's that simple, then good for you... but for a lot of other people, it's not that simple, because they have different priorities... "pro-choice" doesn't trump all (no pun intended).
Just because it (which could be abortion rights, gun control, immigration reform, healthcare reform, etc.) may be a lessor priority to you doesn't absolve you of the responsibility of the choices you make.
Well no fucking shit. But what you are postulating is fucking retarded. I can personally be "pro-choice" but if I have a candidate who has my views on 99 issues, but doesn't on one, and that 1 is pro-choice, then I'll vote for that person and consider myself to still be pro-choice. The way you don't get that is why your politics is so fucked up... you have to toe the party line, and there's no compromise or nuance... it's all black or white, and up for constant argument. You deserve what you get for the next 4 years.
She didn't even make a statement... she sent out Podesto saying "come back tomorrow". And here I was looking for drama with Trump's concession speech. Even CNN is bashing her.
The hypocrisy is amazing here. It was going to be Trump acting like a baby and fussing about the results wasn't it?
If it's just a one-off, I'm not going to cry foul. It's when it's a consistent pattern I'm gonna call it out. I don't care how much you swear up and down that you love Pepsi and Pepsi is the best, if all I ever see you drink is Coke, I'm going to call you out on it.
