I never said that. I’m just saying that it makes more sense now why she suddenly had to stop talking and then went to a break.

Well, he’s giving himself political cover to vote either way. It also gives cover to Collins and Murkowski to put the pressure elsewhere. If a neutral body comes back saying nothing is out of sorts, they can upvote Kav without guilt.

If the FBI comes back and says this guy’s a liar, they can downvote without guilt.

It also gives political cover to the rest of the GOP if he comes back clean.

So for people who couldn't watch, what just happened was the judiciary committee voted along party lines to send Kavanaugh to the Senate for a full vote.

However, the big drama was that Sen. Flake said that he would only feel comfortable voting during the full vote pending an FBI investigation into Kavanaugh, limited in scope to the current allegations. He recommended said FBI investigation to go no longer than one week, and said he was prepared to write a letter to trump in hopes to get one. Of course the democrats agreed with this, but so did several republican members of the committee.

Sen. Flake said it was in an effort to bring the country together and help us heal, and that while it wouldn't necessarily change the dems vote, it would make them more comfortable. If he can get even one or two republicans to join him on this proposition to trump, he can basically force his hand by saying "order an FBI investigation or else we won't confirm."

**edit** And now Lindsey Graham is squirming in front of the cameras. They asked him if he thought it's a good idea and he said "Well last time I checked we need 50 votes... And now somebody has to explain this to trump! So I guess that's my job."

    This is priceless.

Kavanaugh has to be boofing himself outta stress right now. It’s a bad sign when sen graham is apparently on board with an fbi investigation now (in order to get the votes).

Well that was certainly a turn of events!!!

Well, we will see if there even is an investigation. Trump has to ask for one. Who knows what else Avenatti is cooking up in the mean time? Once the weight of Graham’s ape show fades away and people realize that there was no real defense to the allegations, I don’t think it helps Kavanaugh. Plus, if they are able to speak with witnesses who can support or refute Ford’s allegations, a lot can still happen. A week is a long time.

Graham said he was gonna talk to trump. I imagine that’s gonna go over well. They need the votes, so they kinda have trump between a rock and “go get fucked”

You know what I've been wondering?

IF Kavanaugh did indeed rape any of those women, and he had gotten one of them knocked up back then, I wonder what his stance on abortion would be then.

It's such a common point of hypocrisy that there's a term for it: "The only good abortion is my abortion."

From pro-life men pushing their mistresses into getting abortions, to pro-life women securing abortions for their pregnant teenager daughters, very few pro-life warriors are actually pro-life when they themselves face the circumstances that most often lead to the decision to abort.

I grew up in a small village and these kinds of things happened. It’s a matter of power. He who has the money and power can get away with anything.

Just like the Catholic Church. The priest has the ultimate power. A pathway to heaven. So they can be mollesters.

Abortion sounds like a truly terrible thing until you are in a position where you need one/ your partner needs one.

It's also a question of who these things are open secrets amongst. There was a scandal in my hometown where a substitute teacher was arrested for having sex (or trying to have sex, I forget the exact charges) with middle school girls. The adults in town were genuinely shocked and appalled, while the kids were like "yeah, that makes sense, I'd heard he was creepy like that."

I agree with you that he gave a piss poor showing at the hearing. Still, I think things need to be kept in perspective. The senators/left wing news have been describing Kavanaugh's testimony like he showed up drunk, rolling his eyes and occasionally responding to questions by grunting "pussy...pussy". As to the factual parts of the case, how is he even supposed to defend himself from an allegation like the one Ford gave? There's not much he can even provide beyond a denial. Ford has at best narrowed it down to a summer now, and is she even sure about that? She gave an okish testimony from my view, but why did she claim the Republicans didn't offer to fly out/reach out to her. "Uhhh, I was not made aware of that." Bull fucking shit. I saw it in the news every day and you had no idea? She also played really naive about how polygraphs work, which is odd for a psych professor.

Mainly she just pushed for an investigation, which is perfectly understandable. Especially with multiple allegations there needs to be one. Even so, I'm surprised how easy they went on her. Call me callous, but the gaping holes in her memory, the timing of the accusation, and her motivations were all perfectly reasonable lines of questioning to drill way harder than they did. If it's ok to pressure Kavanaugh about his drinking, like that is even proof of anything, I think memory and motives are subject to scrutiny in evaluating credibility. It's not to be shitty to her, but the republicans were so scared of looking bad they straight up dropped the ball. The focus was instead on entirely pointless speeches slandering their dem colleagues, as if they missed the point of having a fucking hearing in the first place.

And the sanctimonious grandstanding and slobbering from the democrat senators was absolutely disgusting. Forget about how obviously fake it was, the purpose was a hearing, to get testimony from two people, not to talk about how much you admire/adore/respect/ blah blah fucking blah for 3 hours the accuser. Save it for outside of the hearing at least. No shame at all. NONE of the senators should have been so rambling or insulting with the constant blatant defense of their 'side'. I think you guys have the republican pearl clutching/"How could you do this to this wonderful man????" side of it covered.

Abortion is such an offensive term these days. Let’s change it to “zygote removal“. That way pro-lifers will accept it more openly, instead of in secret like most of them do.

Wow. That’s one of his most logical and fair decisions ever. And a big kudos to Flake, that was a true “country first” decision to take a stand like that.
