To me the article is saying, the term "nationalist" is just becoming a scare tactic like the term "Socialism/Socialist" is to the right while ignoring the benefits of the underlying policies. Maybe we shouldn't incentivize companies to off shore with tilted trade agreements or let an unending flow of migrants depresses wages and our citizens bargaining power? It's simply, well Trump admitted he's a Nazi, there you have it. Again it seems to go unnoticed that Trump broke the base from the corporate free trade dogma of the Reagan era in one campaign cycle. It really could be a good chance for the Democrats to run on economic policy instead of focusing on identity politics.

Because focusing on economic policy is hard, especially when things seem like they are going as well as they are. If they honestly wanted to assess it, they could make an argument that the low unemployment rate isn't because a ton of people are working, but because the labor force participation rate has also been steadily declining due to baby boomer retirements and people have just quit looking for jobs. When people arent actively seeking employment, they arent counted as unemployed by the BoLS. Good luck trying to explain that or sell it. Its easier to just call someone a racist.

I agree with you but the problem is democrats loved the employment numbers under Obama while ignoring the fact that it just means less people are actually looking for jobs now. If they start into the nuance behind the job numbers, they will walk straight into another trap of looking disingenuous and partisan.

In this county there has been a huge uptick in voters thus far for the mid terms:

"After four days of early voting, 108,632 people had voted in Clark County. The turnout was so high for a midterm, it was actually a lot of closer to 2016 presidential levels when 138,953 people had voted after 4 days.

In 2014, last midterm year, only 37,993 people had voted after the first 4 days in Clark County."

@Rush-O-Matic I'm curious if you've been affected at all by the issues in Georgia and Kemp's apparent attempt to purge about a million people from voting in the upcoming Governor's race?

Situations like this just show the need to have an independent group running elections in this country. At the very least, there should be a process for recusal of being allowed to manage a voting roll when you're running directly for a seat that is being elected.

The problem with that is that we are facing a massive international crisis that requires global cooperation and coordination on a previously unheard of scale. And the Republican response to that crisis is to flee the world stage, deny the problem exists, and jealously hoard its own privilege even at the expense of fellow citizens. When the history of climate change is written, I think the American right wing will be seen as historic villains on the scale of fascists and communists.

Has not impacted me in any way, as I have voted in every election.*

I agree, there should be a backup way - it makes sense for the Secretary of State to handle the process, except when he or she is running for a higher office. (Not unique to Georgia, though, as quite a few other SoS do the same.)

    * The way the Georgia procedures are set up, those registered to vote, but have not cast ballots for three years are mailed notice to confirm that they still live at that address. If they don’t return the notice, they are marked inactive. (But not removed) Then, if they don’t vote in the two following general elections, they are removed. I think it was set up to remove dead people and those who moved away. Specifically for Kemp, he is being sued or investigated or whatever, because he (as SoS) removed some 300,000 people shortly after he announced he was running for governor. But, he also removed several hundred thousand in the years before. He's running as a Republican, but it wasn't just Democrats removed. Of the ones removed, there were about 20,000 dead, 42,000 moved out of state, and 10,000 moved to another County. I'm sure there's a better way to properly remove ones that need to be gone, but I don't know what other states do.

I know I'm either preaching to the choir or this will fall on deaf ears, but no matter your personal politics, please vote for Democrats. Whatever issues you feel the Republicans may be better on, I promise you that they are irrelevant next to Climate Change, which the Democrats are indisputably better on. There has never been a larger divide in which party is better for the country than there is at this point in time. A vote for the Republicans now is the equivalent of a vote in 1940 for a political party that didn't even believe Germany existed. If it weren't actually happening, the idea that a political party would act as the Republicans have on the issue would be the most absurd idea imaginable.

Democrats are better on national security because climate change will be the most important national security issue.
Democrats are better on the economy because climate change will be the most important economic issue.
Democrats are better on foreign policy because climate change will be the most important foreign policy issue.
Democrats are better on domestic policy because climate change will be the most important domestic policy issue.

I don't care if you think Republicans are moderately better on guns, or taxes, or whatever. They are absolutely horrific on the most important and time sensitive issue the country faces. Vote for what is best for the country, and then work on your favored issue from there.

I too am voting straight Dem, but it's more about taking away Orange Julius' rubber stamp and restoring SOME checks and balances to our little experiment.

Same, for largely the same reason.

I have never, ever voted straight ticket one party. And if I ever did, I always figured it would be straight GOP rather than Dem, as I largely lean that way (I'd say it's probably an 80/20 split if you went issue by issue).

Now though, not only am I thoroughly embarrassed by, and very angry at, our current president. But I'm also ashamed of the actions of a party I once respected.

I don't know who this bomb package sender is, but I hope law enforcement apprehends him* soon and locks him away for life. He should be prosecuted for the most things he can be, and made an example that this bullshit will not stand. And, I actually hope it's not some looney dude that actually has mental problems, so they can go full on "we won't tolerate this" mode. Because, it's only going to cost us all money to implement new security measures to protect elected officials. It might even put the USPS out of business - I don't know how they can get worse or handle any additional costs. And, then, there will be a thousand political talking heads on the why, who, how all of it means. Damn this motherfucker.

    * I say him, because you know it's going to be one person, and it's going to be a dude.

The picture of the one to Biden was marked with a sticky note that says "postage due." And, the news reports all they these were "sent" to such and such. If they all had 6 stamps on them, how were they sent, if not through the USPS?

Maybe a USPS employee that dropped them in a processing bin that bypassed the initial intake procedure?

In other news, Rosie O'Donnell still hasn't received a bomb and she's not happy about it.

Yeah, but it's usually bigger than expected while drinking a beer.

Mail-delivered, delayed ignition ordnance is not something I'd chalk up to "redneck".

Where did you see the "delayed ignition" part? Did the ignition fail, or were they found before they were supposed to go off? I am assuming some of the details haven't been released yet, to help with the investigation, but I haven't seen anything about how they were supposed to be detonated. Since one of them was returned to Wasserman Schultz's office due to insufficient postage, doesn't that mean it was handled several times, surely later than the bomber anticipated? And, if he was going to detonate them all at the same time later using a cell phone trigger, surely some would've been disarmed and useless.
