If the Democratic Party platform was bullshit, then every other party platform was horseshit. I was at the Minnesota caucus as a delegate and voted on the platform so I know exactly what the positions are. I also explained what's important to me several pages ago. So again, tell me why I should've supported any other party's platform? I don't understand what you're saying here.
Rather than blaming democratic voters, it's probably more appropriate to blame the DNC itself, who did its party members a great disservice. That was the biggest "fuck you" of the whole cycle. I usually vote Republican but I didn't vote for Trump because of his character issues, I think I would rather have had Bernie. I'm not mad or upset about it, just wary. I saw someone describe it as the worst underdog story ever. That's a perfect way to put it.
People voted against you for very good reasons. It's scary to think what you might be willing to accept as a form of government. You want to make it not about Hillary, but it is about Hillary. Not about the party in it's fanciful form. Given her track record her statements meant nothing. In the days of Nixon he was forced to resign over something that would have been seen as a given today. It's a cultural problem as well as a political one. Take it however you want.
Yeah I'm not going to defend the DNC. This loss is the cherry on top of the pile of failure of the Democratic party for years now and had better bring a pretty big housecleaning. Nothing Hillary would've done approaches the awfulness of what the Republican party wants to do. You say you're scared about what kind of government I'd be willing to accept? Worst case scenario for a Hillary scenario is that she sells us out to special interests. The Republicans want to undermine democracy itself via voter disenfranchisement. That to me is an order of magnitude worse than anything Worst Case Scenario Hillary does, and it just one of the GOP's many utterly despicable goals. I understand how this election came down to feelings about Hillary. But the goals of the GOP dwarf Hillary or Donald's personal issues. Though we're obviously not going to see eye-to-eye on that point.
Tangentially speaking, I think we can agree that it's completely on the GOP now, right? With control of the Presidency, Congress, 1 possible more SCOTUS seats, and their dominance at the state level, there should be no barriers to pushing through their agenda. If the country is worse off in 4 years, there literally will be no one to blame but themselves.
So...the first black President is going to shake the hand of and give the White House and the Presidency to someone who is openly endorsed by the KKK....
The good news is he will be a one term president. The bad news is he is president. I expect the dollar to drop precipitously shortly.
Canada better build a dam good wall because I imagine there will be a flood of people heading there right about now.
Shitty for you guys, fucking great for us Canadians it blows paying 30plus percent if I need to order something from the USA.
Woke up this morning feeling a lot better about it than I went to bed. Trump's speech was good. I think more of my issue is with the type of supporters he attracts than with the guy himself. As far as Clinton, as others have said I think the DNC did everyone wrong. Regardless, for better or worse he is now our President. I won't be wearing a "Make America Great Again" hat, but I will support our President and Comander in Chief. I think that's the job of every American citizen whether you agree with him or not.
So the question is how to move forward after the shock has worn off? Because your argument and point really works both ways. I didn't like Trump and didn't vote for him. Like you say what am I supposed to do in this situation vote for the opposing side that I see as antithetical to most of my political stances? How does the system need to change to produce candidates that appeal to more of the spectrum of people without falling into the same decisive trap we are falling into here?
Why let the shock wear off? You can, for example, keep being shocked for the rest of the semester and not take exams. https://twitter.com/jon_victor_/status/796225866254745601/photo/1?ref_src=twsrc^tfw
Thank God it's fucking over. And yeah, I am as surprised as anyone, but give it up for the guy. And be optimistic, maybe someone as anti-pc as Trump will put an end to some of the obstructionist nonsense. Fuck it, for all we know the guy is the next FDR. It was a terrible election and it's over. Let's just hope we didn't rewind the clock to 2004.
Everything else aside, this is the first time we've ever elected someone President who has absolutely no political or military experience. That's one (of the many) things that's troubling about last night.
I thought Trump's acceptance speech and Clinton's concession speech were both pretty good, and both had more humility and encouragement in them than I expected. Maybe that's a good sign of a positive future. It's really quite remarkable that a Country can experience such divisiveness and nastiness during the election cycle, and still proceed with a peaceful transition of power. 'murica.
