Obama's presidency was like watching an absent government for 8 years. I don't like the ACA, but they shut down the government. Then, they tried to get it overturned in the supreme court despite the fact that there was no rational constitutional argument. Some of the states are still trying to rip it apart even if it does more damage to health care because of the ideological bullshit that has taken over.
Yep. They're going to do exactly what they said they were afraid the other side would do. Massive Protest Planned In Front Of Chicago's Trump Tower https://www.dnainfo.com/chicago/20161109/downtown/donald-trump-election-protest-tower
They're always peaceful right? Last night: "Protesters, who predominantly appeared to be students and other millennials, also burned Trump effigies, smashed windows of the Oakland Tribune newsroom, and set tires, trash and newspaper stands on fire in Oakland and Berkeley. The disturbance also forced BART officials to shut down the 12th Street Oakland City Center station." http://www.nbcbayarea.com/news/loca...er-Trumps-Presidential-Victory-400509211.html
He probably will just let he go off into the sunset. That would be a pretty nasty note to start a presidency off with considering the other priorities we have as a country. Also, I don't think his threat to jail her is what won him the presidency. What got him the win in my opinion was a few different elements. 1. People don't like Hillary at all. She's had a likability problem that has nothing to do with being a woman, for a very long time. She's a pander bear who has been shown to be shady at best and a criminal at worst. 2. The democratic primary. Bernie was the more electable candidate. Even though he can be crazy bordering on communistic, his campaign resonated with a lot of struggling people. He would have swept the rust belt. The DNC manipulated the race to make him lose just because its Hillarys "turn". Because she's unlikable, people didn't want her. 3. Her campaign was completely tone deaf to the struggles of a shitload of Americans. I know people want to say "boohoo poor white people". But it's not just them. It's working class and blue collar people of all races that voted trump. In Florida, they thought Hillary had the Latino vote in the bag. How so very very wrong. They took them for granted. She wanted to focus on the social justice aspects that are important. But there's people out there who don't give a fuck about people's feelings while they are struggling to eat and pay bills.
Its an interesting paradigm shift when the blue collar working class are now the Republican base when they were part of the Democratic one for so long.
I think it's a bit of a tricky situation. On one hand it would look petty and vindictive if he/his administration continued going after her. On the other hand, since the entire weight of all the accusations of corruption against her were her supposed lawbreaking and illegal activities, to not continue to press for charges against her sends the message that all of the accusations against her were nothing but a smear campagin to hurt her chances of being elected.
Well, it has begun: https://www.scientificamerican.com/...o-lead-epa-transition/?wt.mc=SA_Twitter-Share
I know you are pointing out the climate denial aspect. Also of note is his use of Washington lobbyist insiders to actually run his administration. He was never going to be able to hire the best fantastic people and also drain the swamp.
Jesus Christ it's the EPA. Put a hippie in there and overrule him if you must, but to stick your fingers in your ears and yell "I don't wanna hear it" on such critical and non-partisan issues is utter insanity. This is the stark denial of reality I talk about where I can't find a common ground with the right wing.
I wonder how the Republican base is going to handle his inability to follow through on almost any of his promises. Building a wall? Yeah okay. Draining the swamp? You just got the congressional majority. Yeah okay. Repeal ACA? Well. Okay. What are you replacing it with? And in repealing it, what will you do with the millions of Americans who no longer have insurance coverage? Tell them to go fuck themselves? "Carpet bombing", torture, war crimes, etc. Putting Clinton in jail. Are those things the constituency expects him to actually do?
He probably made a lot of concessions to establishment republicans to stop them from utterly destroying his campaign. If they had held their distance after the sex scandal leaks enough of the base wouldn't vote for him to cost him the election. It's going to take a long time to drain the swamp, but I have faith this country can do it. Basically I'm keeping my glass half full because my guy won.
The plan they've been sitting on and unable to work with for 7 years now? I mean. If that'll do it, okay.
Yeah when he called Rience priebus on stage I had to giggle as the die hard Trump supporters absolutely hate the RNC as part of the establishment. He obviously made a deal with the swampthings to have access to their election network and to not continually torpedoed his campaign at every turn. I honestly see no avenue for him to change Washington if he even wants to in the first place.
Something like this issue is not political opinion: it's people who are complete ignorant telling people who are brilliant that they're wrong. In over seventeen thousand studies on man-made climate change done by actual, real scientists-- seven came back negative. It's fucking stupid enough you had Captain Snowball James Inhofe heading your science committee before... This is epically stupid. I said Trump was an idiot, I stand by it. This isn't a debate on policy, it's the denial of research done by people FAR smarter than he or this shitbird Odell could ever be. It's just like those people who say "Well, Ken Hamm makes an interesting argument". Well, he's still wrong no matter what.
The potential damage to the EPA will affect me directly, from more than just a climate change perspective. But hey, who needs clean air and clean water amirite?! All of you crazy motherfuckers that voted Trump had better be right.
They're not. Clinton was the worst candidate the DNC could have dredged up by a country mile and she was still vastly preferable to Trump. Trump said, did, and proposed so many terrible things, ideas, and policies during the campaign that people have a hard time processing them all and thus don't have a grasp of how truly terrible he is going to be in the oval office.
Best case scenario, nothing changes. What will likely happen? 1) The complete lack of attention to climate change. We're talking "Earth not being habitable in 100 years" problematic. 2) The largest scale back of Civil Rights since the end of reconstruction and the start of Jim Crow. I honestly foresee abortion going away and gay marriage quickly following suit. A national RFRA would not surprise me. 3) A huge number of laws passed to disenfranchise minorities and the poor. Less early voting, fewer places to get photo IDs is poor areas, and gerrymandering the fuck out of Republican states to ensure they maintain control of congress and the Presidency for the foreseeable future. Is it surprising that twice in 16 years the winner of the electoral college lost the popular vote? Not at all. Republicans have been building this system to keep them in power for years via gerrrymandering and voter suppression in swing states, and it is all coming to fruition now. I honestly will not be surprised by anything done to disenfranchise poor and minority voters, it is only going to get worse. 4) A serious law limiting freedom of the press. The media has been a prime target, and I truly believe Trump will aggressively go after the media if they even try to report negatively on him, and I think he'll have enough of congress behind him to make "fairness in reporting" laws or some such bullshit. They'll gladly sell out the media and the first amendment if means no more meanies calling them racist for trying to disenfranchise brown people. Stuff that won't happen: 1) "Drain the swamp." Bullshit. He'll never get term limits for senate and house because see number 3 above. Republicans are set up to control both houses for the foreseeable future and have proven they don't need the majority of votes to win the Presidency. They will never in a million billion years accept term limits. They won't accept limitations on lobbying jobs after they drop their seat. Trump will most definitely put up a Supreme Court nominee that will uphold Citizens United. Congress is the only group that can address corruption, and they unequivocally will NOT. Corruption will remain, tax loopholes for the rich won't go away, the power for the President won't scale back (you really think Trump of all people will cede power to anyone?), and nothing will change in this regard. Still, four years from now, all those Trump supporters who picked him because of this will have to realize nothing changed (or more likely they'll remain delusional and think he really did end corruption because they're that fucking stupid). Then maybe they'll understand why so many are furious today (but again, they're likely going to think he ended corruption because they're that fucking stupid). They elected a racist based on his promises to end corruption, and he either can't or won't follow through on any of those promises. The racist stuff, though? You better bet that shit is happening with a republican majority throughout. 2) build a wall. Lol. Fuck off and die. Congrats, Trump voters. You got what you wanted. I truly, genuinely hope you're right, but if we're being honest, I think nothing good will happen. I truly hope four years from now you'll acknowledge what a huge mistake you've made, but I doubt it. You'll look at the scaling back of civil rights and clap with glee about how it ended "corruption," because in your minds, only brown people and women are corrupt.
