Christie used his family as an excuse. He wife is retired and his kids are almost all out of the house. It's so transparent it's not even a lie, it's just a thinly veiled "never in a million years would I take this job."
It’s also a little bit of sweet sweet humiliation after he got snubbed for the VP spot and now he’s just the latest to not want what is normally a coveted position in government.
Well, I am unemployed at the moment... Perhaps I should throw my hat in the ring? What does a Chief of Staff do anyways? Ah fuck it, I'm sure I could wing it for a couple of weeks until the press runs a background check on me and at that point I can say "No comment" for a few days, then fuck off into obscurity. I'm trying to be creative with my job search and I'm sure that Chief of Staff pays pretty damn well.
A Republican-appointed federal judge, in open court, just asked prosecutors if they considered charging Flynn with treason. Judge is pissed as hell and looks like he might disregard Mueller's sentencing recommendation entirely and throw Flynn in prison for as long as the statute allows him to. He allowed Flynn a brief recess to discuss if he wanted to delay sentencing and provide further cooperation.
Well, that was certainly unexpected!! Trump must be pissing himself right now. That judge basically told Mueller thanks for the recommendation, I got this though.
Trump's Foundation is being dissolved under court supervision. https://www.cnn.com/2018/12/18/politics/trump-foundation-dissolve/index.html The dissolution of the Donald J. Trump Foundation resolves one element of the attorney general's civil lawsuit against the foundation, which includes claims that the President and his three eldest children -- Don Jr., Ivanka and Eric -- violated campaign-finance laws and abused its tax-exempt status. Rather than operating it as a genuine charity, the lawsuit alleges, they instead allowed it to be used "as little more than a checkbook to serve Mr. Trump's business and political interests."
The Court is also attempt to permanently ban trump and his children from ever running another charity in NY. So they aren't fit to run a charity, but a country? No problem.
Clinton Foundation selling access, pay for play, etc. I don't remember if Bill ever gave a club member an ambassadorship tho.
They won't be wrong... as GcDiaz said, the Clinton Foundation was a "pay for access" gig from the get go.
But it did do some good as far as raising money for decent causes like health and climate. Even if there were some corrupt practices because Clinton.
I wasn't being serious, only regurgitating the old tired talking point which should now be irrelevant if it wasn't already, except we know it won't be because Benghazi and this particular dead horse is resilient af.
Well, if you guys are so sick of hearing about her maybe stop bringing her up because the people on here who really hate haven't been for awhile.
While it may not be relevant any more, at the time it was absolutely an issue... but at least they managed to actually run the charity as a legal charity, unlike Trump's Foundation. So yeah, using charities for political maneuvers is not a new thing, and not party specific... Trump just seems to have been a bit bad at it and is being forced to shut it down.
He's never been one for subtlety, and I don't know that he used that charity for ANYTHING else. That's kind of funny actually. Reminds me of what Bill Burr said during the election. "Hillary at least hides the bodies in the basement. Trump just throws them out on the front lawn."
Whether or not Clinton was running a charity for political maneuvers I cannot say as I haven't researched it much at all, but I think it's important to note that Trump was not doing "that, but poorly", he was just straight up running a charity as a grift. He wasn't trading political favors for donations that ultimately went to causes he supported, he solicited money for charity and then spent it on himself. There was a hilarious tidbit found where he used the charity to pay for Jr's $7 Boy Scout fee. Fucking broke miser couldn't pull $7 out of his own pocket, he had to steal it.
