My read is that their sources are two feds within the SDNY. Their reporting seemed limited to things Mueller would have had to have shared with SDNY for the purposes of the Cohen prosecution.
More context Definitely looks like Buzzfeed has two feds they consider reliable sources, and the Special Counsel and those two feds are in disagreement about exactly what Cohen said or meant in his various statements to prosecutors.
Ehh, it’s rather dubious. More sounds like Buzzfeed and some media outlets are trying to cover their asses for not fully verifying the information in the documents they were reporting on. Lots of assumptions have to be true for those theories to be realizable.
Normally a headline like that would blow my skirt up, but the fact it came from Buzzfeed.... I don’t believe a fucking word of it unless it gets stone-cold confirmation. They are hack tabloid journalism no worse nor better than TMZ.
The defence is that he wasn’t doing anything. Which is technically true, but he, like most, didn’t expect to become a viral celebrity. So the internet will now do it’s own thing to him.
It’s an ourbouros. Trump is antagonistic toward the media, and honestly Some of those claims are legit and he beats the fake news drum. So the news media, the majority of which leans left, wants to be the next Woodward and Bernstein and blow it wide open to nail him. Well, how many garbage stories have come out about the Russia investigation and others? A fuck ton of conjecture stated as fact along with barely acknowledged retractions. And that’s just the mainstream outlets. The others don’t bother. The fake news mantra grows. So does their reactionary story telling. CNN and the networks stake an open position as anti-Trump. Fox drops the “fair and balanced” motto and goes on full defense for the administration. It’s really shitty that decent news is hard to come by. Even PBS started shitting the bed.

Video of whole event with the MAGA hat kids. Though it doesn't show the specific confrontation that went viral from what Ive scanned through. First 47 minutes or so is the hilariously cartoonish black panther esque preacher insulting the Native Americans the rest of the time he screams racial and homophobic slurs at the kids. Moral of the story, MAGA hat trust fund kids inflame racial tension because of their white privilege. This is America.
So the buzzfeed guys were just on CNN being given the opportunity to further explain their story or maybe provide clarity with regards to sourcing. They did none of that and just doubled down on the claims they already made. And pointed out previous reporting they are proud of. Part of me thinks the fundamental claims of Trump directing Cohen to lie to Congress is obviously something he would do. And sticking your neck all the way out the way the reporters are doing at the risk of destroying everything they hold dear does hold some water to me. But they could have done a better job of providing more detail to bolster their claims. They didn’t even have the language that might have been used in their claims. Basically, they didn’t help themselves.
The full timeline appears to be: Handful of Black Israelites show up at the Indigenous Peoples March and do Black Israelite shit. MAGA teens show up ostensibly to wait for their bus. Black Israelites continue their Black Israelite shit, now directed toward the MAGA teens. MAGA teens start throwing shit back, and start doing what I can only describe as a whitebread haka. Natives, ironically the only people who were "supposed" to be there in the first place, put themselves in the middle of what they see as an escalating conflict hoping to quell it Native action has the opposite effect, MAGA teens start targeting their attention at the Natives, possibly assuming they and the Black Israelites are one in the same. Punchable face is immortalized in internet history Open questions remaining: What prostitute is the bus driver off visiting that he's this late to the pick up spot? Seems like those kids were out there for at least a half hour if not longer. Why are the chaperones allowing the MAGA teens to do anything but stay together and shut the fuck up? The situation is clearly starting to get out of hand, and you're on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. I can't think of a single teacher I've ever had who would have let things get to that point; they would have gotten control of the group and told them to ignore the Black Israelites at the first or second response to the Black Israelites.
Just another case where the narrative drove the "reporting" instead of the facts. Despite the reactions on Facebook, even for being punk ass twerp teenagers (read: every single teenager ever), their reaction to the Indian guy wasn't that bad. The kid stood in his way and I guess you could say got in his face, some others made mildly offensive comments. It certainly wasn't the reemergence of Dixiecrat clan members lead by grand wizard Trump it was made out to be.
