No, despite what we were all taught in our highschool government classes, voting IS a privilege, and it CAN be taken away. Ask me how I know.
No, they really dont. But according to recent studies cited in that article also, it doesnt really do anything to deter possible voter fraud either.
I actually don't really care if people want to drive them to the voting booth. Not sure why you think I do so much. My point wasn't about rampant voter fraud, it's that I don't care about all the people who are "oppressed" by voter ID laws. I mean, they care so much who wins they both won't get an ID, nor go to the booth themselves? Also, I've never heard of anywhere in a city where voters have this mythic long trek to the polls. If such a place exists you might as well blame democrats since they organize the voting in those areas, not republicans. That's what it's really about for democrats though. They're worried it won't be as easy to handhold people who don't give a shit about elections. I did take sociology and believe it or not, we didn't spend the majority (read: any) of our time talking about voter ID laws. Basing a class around someone's partisan political bullshit is really unprofessional, but thankfully we do have an academic field that does just that. I find it kind of funny people can get all giggly about voter fraud accusations, and then whine incessantly about widespread voter suppression. Not that I would ever accuse anyone in modern politics of being intellectually honest...
Manafort fucked up a little. From the Reddit Magathread on it: No clue why he decided to lie to the special counsel, but if he did it because whatever he was hiding was worth the risk, then this dude is in quite a deep level of shit.
Even if trump pardons him the state can still keep him behind bars, as presidential pardons don't apply to state crimes. Manafort is what, like 70? He's basically getting a life sentence at this point. No reason to save anyone now.
Oh I know the state charges will fuck them all if they somehow skate on the federal ones. They know this and the state of New York has been investigating for some time now.
There’s a BIG line in the sand when it comes to the final destination of those two things. You can have either Club Fed, or a brutalizing descent into hell. Pray if you’re going to get nailed with charges that it’s the federal ones they get you on. That way you won’t be removing your forced tattooos with a hot spoon before you get out. IF you get out.
I mean Michael Cohen got to request his prison and he selected a federal pen in the Catskill mountains known for housing other Jewish white collar criminals. It’s better than sing sing or rikers island.
It would be delicious if trump pardoned him and then he had to go to the state pen instead of club fed. Not only would trump get destroyed by everyone for doing so, but then manafort would be literally fucked instead of just figuratively.
If you’re a lawyer no matter what jail you’re in, you’re treated like gold. A free, 24-hour law advice machine is the Midas touch to convicts, who may get to see their own lawyer (for five minutes) once every few weeks or months. They’re even more untouchable than the “guy who can get you stuff”.
The problem is that Cohen is barely a lawyer. He went to an absolute bottom-tier law school, only ever had one client, and spent most of his time working for that client breaking the law, in ways that prosecutors would later describe as "hansel-and-gretel-esque" because of how thickly it laid down breadcrumbs for them to follow.
I think he has had other clients, but it's been something like 15 years. Lucky for him I doubt his cellmates are particularly well versed in law school rankings. Even so, if I ever find myself in a bunch of shit I can't see seeking advice from a lawyer who managed to find his way into prison. That's like going to a doctor who smokes and is addicted to meth.
So McConnell has announced that Trump will sign the bill to keep the government open, but will declare a national emergency to get the wall built. McConnell must know that this will immediately go to federal court where any sane judge will side with Congress, so this whole thing is just a charade to avoid narcissistic injury to a single fucking retard who should be nowhere near the oval office. Aren't you getting tired of just how worthless Republicans are?
The idea that a judge has the right to shut down the 'emergency wall' reminds me of the (failed) attempt to stop the travel ban. Yes, it's a stupid decision, but the courts have no place in this whatsoever.
Also, the idea that building a wall is oh so impossible is kind of stupid. We can argue the efficacy and I might be inclined to agree, but building a wall is no where near impossible. If you want to flame me for that please take your ad hominems to the last democrat senate as well, since they wanted to build one. I mean if we are talking some 100 foot high, 20 foot thick coast to coast behemoth then sure, maybe not so feasible, but just building some kind of wall along the border? Humanity has managed more difficult tasks.
