When Pence walked out my wife said he looks like a q-tip, and I imagine that’s the best debate analysis I’ll hear all night.
I’m going to save it up and chug a bottle of cheap vodka when it’s over. I’ve never liked watching debates. Nearly everything they say is wildly incorrect or a flat out lie. But to each their own. The American people will decide. Drink
Since neither of them answered any actual questions, the fly is the only thing people are talking about. Pence is a very smooth debater and I think it works to his favor, even if literally everything he said was a lie. The truth doesn’t matter in a debate. It’s how you look saying it and how credible you seem. She did well too but people will criticize her for her facial expressions and looking “bitchy”.
oh man I loved those head bobs and expressions! I think everyone can relate when someone interrupts with something stupid, that desire to just nod your head at them like "yes child, but adults are talking right now so let us finish."
Thanks. At the end of the day, Pence needed to make up a ton of lost ground. They are so underwater with women, they are taking up residence in the Mariana Trench. Pence coming across as condescending, time stealing, and interrupting definitely didn’t help with that gap. As usual, all the conservatives think Pence “won” and all the liberals think Harris did. In reality, we all lose.
I think Pence's style will be much less effective this year than in 2016. In 2016 his smarmy "you're such a worrywart, I am calm and you're spouting hyperbole" shtick worked, but in 2020 it's pretty clear that the voters' anxiety and concern is more than warranted; they don't want to see someone downplay their legitimate worries. Additionally, there were points in the debate where Kamala just treated him like a rude child, and it made him look genuinely bad.
If the goal for a VP debate isn't to lose ground, then they both won. Neither moved the needle much, I think Kamala did in a positive manner when she reacted to his interrupting but YMMV on that. I don't think Pence made anything worse for Trump, which is a win for him, but I know trump and the team would like to have seen him make up some ground which he clearly didn't. What worries me is what I thought was Pence's pink eye at first, but if it's conjunctivitis, that's a COVID symptom and both the president and VP coming out as having COVID after their debates will put another gaping hole in this ship.
Talked to my mom and she drew the conclusion that you forecasted. However, we both laughed when we thought if it made anyone change their minds about Trump. We still think Joe is getting in, because Trump is going nuts. So yeah, Pence did well, but not enough to move the needle in my opinion.
