I have a lot of family members — and I imagine I’m not alone here — who looked at trump almost as this messiah type figure. For lack of a better word, there almost has to be this kind of “de programming” like for people who leave Scientology or something. There are a lot of people who have a lot of hate in our country. Hatred toward one another. The media. Groups and classes of people they were taught to hate simply because they are not them or don’t think like them. We will have to reckon with that. Ultimately, we will have to find a solution.

for today, I am happy. Relieved. I finally feel calm, and I didn’t realize how heavy that weight was until it was gone. For the first time in many years, I am optimistic about our future, and the future of our country.

But we absolutely have to do something about the hate. And I am still very resentful toward those who have been hateful toward me for my beliefs. I’m not sure if that solution is forgiveness, or justice, or simply acceptance. Maybe a combination. But something will have to be done.

For today though, the first time in many years, I am proud to be an American.
