This entire march reminds me of when my girlfriend tells me a problem, subtly asks my opinion on how to fix it, and then tells me she doesn't want to hear a solution she just wanted to vent.
Best way to shut down a riot... sorry, protest, is just to walk around with a big ass "Now Hiring" sign. Those people will run like cockroaches.
That seems to be pretty much it. The media is spinning it as an anti Trump march, but they started planning it back in August when Hillary was a 99.9% lock. As far as what it seems to be about....immigration, reproductive rights, BLM, anti-native American rape, wage inequality, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, anti-Christian, anti-Trump, anti-CIS, anti-police, and pro Madonna wanting to blow up the White House. I'm probably missing a few, so let's just call it a cluster fuck.
I think it's morphed from being pro-Hillary, pro-women, to pro-women, anti-Trump. From a celebration to a protest of their anti-woman stance.
Agreed. However it started, it's clearly an anti-Trump protest at this point. Five seconds of just reading signs should make that clear as day.
If anything, I think that Trump winning has brought out more women in protest than Hillary would have with a win.
I mean... that's clearly a Trump reference. The media didn't spin anything, whatever else you may feel about the march.
I'm saying that while it was largely fears (Drummed up by the media) of what Trump might do, I saw plenty of other signs going on about stuff that had nothing to do with Trump. Like Nett said, it probably morphed over time and they've found a common enemy to blame on whatever their pet cause is and are just running with it, even if it has nothing to do with Trump at all. I mean for God's sake, the guy's been president for 36 hours and people act like the whole country is on the verge of collapse.
You have Trump saying "grab her by the pussy", and you have a sea of pink knitted "pussy" hats as a result. You have Pence who has stated on record that he will do everything in his power to reverse Roe V Wade. You have major "fuck women" policies in the Trump camp. Of course women are going to be pissed, and it's not any spin job from the media. And then there's this: http://time.com/4635835/christopher-von-keyserling-sexual-assault/ "We don't have to be PC any more" now that Trump has been elected.
The VERY first thing the new Press Secretary did was give a tirade about how the attendance of the inauguration was the best ever, and manufacture facts that are absolutely not correct. That speaks fucking volumes.
If you haven't watched the speech at the CIA that preceded it, I highly recommend it. It's absolute insanity.
I found the story after you mentioned it. Certainly interesting, I hadn't heard about it. Haven't had a chance yet. I'm in the middle of 14 straight days of 12 hours at work, so I've only seen summaries.
Here. That's incorrect. The idea for the march came from a Facebook post by a random woman in Hawaii named Teresa Sook the day after the election. That's been very widely publicized.
Republican logic: the government plays too big a role in people's lives, so we're going to elect and appoint a bunch of people who have no experience, can somewhat legitimately claim they have never benefited from government protection or services, with the mandate of austerity in public services like education and healthcare, slicing regulations for businesses that have an environmental impact and spending more on the military for a TBD war they fully intend on provoking. And we're going to bandy around our religion on non-issues as if we were talking to Jesus on a two-way radio, despite things like the Constitution, the presence of multiple religions in our country and popular opinion. People are scared. We have a bunch of plutocrats in charge that most of us didn't vote for. This is the least-educated cabinet in history, and the wealthiest. The highlights from the previous Republican administration were 9/11, a war that has yet to end, a tanked economy (the recovery of which has yet to spread to much of the country), and a steady decline in our education, real wages, and healthcare quality. Obama did what he could, and I think he was a fantastic Republican president. But in terms of real progress in this country, for the past 16 years, there simply hasn't been any, and we're in real danger of being leapfrogged by the Chinese, controlled by the Russians, and dragged down by the Europeans.
How was he a great President if there hasnt been any progress? Those two ideas seem in conflict with one another, and I don't think obstructionism by the other party is an excuse. We (at least we should) gauge the success of a President based on the success of their policies and the one's he did implement have been lackluster to say the least. As Ive said, I think Obama is a good man, but the results dont speak highly. And I wouldn't worry about China too much. They have far worse issues to contend with than we do. And as for Europe, if you want to see a shining example of the failures of modern globalization, then Europe is the place to look. The world has already left Russia behind and they know it. That's why the whole encounter feels so anachronistic. Putin is using middle-20th century tactics in a 21st century world because the Russian economy is a disaster. I disagree with Trump's idea that we need to artificially stimulate the working class. The global economy and automation has outpaced the need for domestic skilled labor and they never adapted any new skills to contend with it. Its like if a programmer never decided to learn a language other than Fortran and wonders why everyone is programming in C or Java. We may just have to deal with a permanently high unemployment rate or completely redesign the economic structure. The Republicans and Democrats are offering band-aids to treat a gushing wound that needs a tourniquet. Trump is as anachronistic as Putin. Hes the final death wail of a dying working class. I didnt vote for him because not only can not articulate a fucking thing, I have no idea what he actually believes other than a mish-mash of hyperbole. Its essentially opportunistic outrage. All of a sudden this is an issue because of Trump? Where we these protesters for the last 8 years? And why are they not concerning themselves with issues that actually matter? Not a word about mass surveillance, or foreign policy, or any other important subject that bears meaningful fruit? Its a massive exercise in virtue signaling. I get it, Trump has said some deeply offensive things, but its so much wasted energy that could have been more constructively spent elsewhere. And this is the funniest image Ive seen in some pictures of the protests: Spoiler: spoilered for size Because nothing speaks to women's rights more than glorifying a religion that keeps them enslaved. Bravo.
