McConnell doesn't hold up his end of backroom deals. Democrats are stupid as fuck if they made one.

That speech he just gave is now public record. It’s pretty substantial political power to the Dems, in my opinion.

McConnell will let the Democrats have as many speeches as they like while he collects seats on the federal bench.

That speech would have been a great one to make after voting to impeach tRump.

But I guess tRump can now start his own party in memory of his good and dear friend Jeffery Epstein who did not kill himself.

If you could impeach trump and let the GQP remain intact, or let him off but have someone give a speech that basically provokes him into forming his own party that destroys the GQP in the process.... which one would you pick?

I think that with the inevitable outcome of not guilty, this is a pretty solid result.

The part of me that wants competent people helping make people's lives better to be in power wants to let tRump split the GQP in two.

The part of me that thinks traitors should go to jail wants tRump to rot behind bars.

The part of me that knows that tRump will split the GQP if given a chance wonders why the Republicans decided to protect tRump over their own party.

yeah I'm very happy. We knew what the result was gonna be, because there were so many spineless republicans that there wouldn't be enough votes. The gravy was the trump attorneys just fucking it ALL up, and even more egg on the face for trump's remaining shreds of legacy. This will go a long way, I think, toward helping that cult of personality around him disappear.

The speech is a bonus for me and I love it. I don't have any real complaints with how this went. Now let's get back to fighting this virus and digging ourselves out a hole. How's Biden doing right now? Still boring as shit? Excellent. Let's continue that.

I think The Turtle’s speech was a compromise for not digging into the complicity of the GOP and their involvement. This throws Trump, and only Trump, under the bus.

    Is it amazing?

Hearing this unfeeling tardmuffin drone on about the importance of morality in government just made my Irony Meter explode.

I mean.... holy FUCKING SHIT who the hell does he think he’s fooling? Why isn’t he dead yet?

That speech is politically inconsequential. It lets people think something is being done while Mitch talks out of both sides of his ass. The cowardice shown by the Dems today could hurt them in the midterms. That kind of shit makes me more likely to stay home in 2022. There is time to make up the damage depending on what they try to do legislatively these next 2 years.

But between Manchin and Sinema threatening to stonewall any attempts by the Dems to move forward aggressively, it’s like they enjoy relinquishing power to people who would have zero issue abusing it the second they get the chance. The gop would say they are doing it because “the Dems would have done it if the shoe were on the other foot”. If all their attempts to make bold moves get squashed down party lines, and they don’t remove the filibuster, they will lose both houses of Congress in the midterms.

That was a lovely speech by McConnell. If only it wasn't he who refused to hold the trial while Trump was still in office, now crying turtle tears over "I so wish we could but it's just too late!".

Good to know that the current and future presidents can do whatever the fuck he wants as long as it's done during the lame duck part of the their term.

Like, that is their literal justification for acquittal. What a load of horseshit.

Also his comment about the Senate not being a moral arbiter? Dude, part of the job of being a senator is to act as arbiters when politicians, especially the goddamn president, is fucking committing crimes. Like, I don't know, trying to get your colleagues killed by mobs!

We need to develop some kind of selfish shortsighted asshole test and make every single politician take it. If you fail, you get shot out of a catapult into a moat full of piranhas.

I'm afraid such a test would fail out the "too stupid for their own good" bad actors that we'd want in office. If the GOP was nothing but Tommy Tubervilles there'd be nothing to worry about. McConnell is nothing if not a long term pragmatist, he's been working towards this since the Bork nomination.

That’s because he’s completely full of shit. It takes the country self-destructing for him to take an L.

During the course of his first term, Donald Trump received 104 Senate votes to convict him for high crimes and misdemeanors. There are only 100 Senators.

“Trump is still liable for everything he did while he was in office,” said McConnell. “He didn't get away with anything yet. We have a criminal justice system in this country. We have civil litigation. And former presidents are not immune from being accountable by either one.”-Mitch McConnell, pissing instructions on the wall.

“It is a sad commentary on our times that one political party in America is given a free pass to denigrate the rule of law, defame law enforcement, cheer mobs, excuse rioters, and transform justice into a tool of political vengeance, and persecute, blacklist, cancel and suppress all people and viewpoints with whom or which they disagree,” Trump said, apparently not knowing or caring what the word "irony" means.

This isn't going to end well for the GOP. Trump has already split the party, alienated their donors and disenfranchised their voters, they just don't see it yet.
