If you lit all that money on fire, at least you would get the thrill of watching it vanish into thin air.
Yout two are broken records. That's a drop in the bucket compared to your tax revenue amiright? Or you could just shave a mile and a half off of your bullet train cost overruns and Im sure no one would notice. OR bookmark some of the 100 million stimulus you are throwing at weed shops to fund regulations and permitting your own state set up. Seems like a money laundering or racketeering scheme, set up insanely expensive permitting, when virtually no business can comply just throw taxpayer money at it so they can. I guess the environmental impact studies industrial complex out there have some mob like sway in local and state government. When it comes to mismanaging taxpayer monies California is in a league of its own.
Were you actually making tinfoil hats while you typed that up? Or is this the only way that you can think of to defend a pathetic republican temper tantrum?
It’s a tad hypocritical that this few hundred million for a state constitutional process vs the mind bendingly high cost don’t draw equal ire. So NOW California Democrats are budget hawk fiscal conservatives? Instead they turned to federal dollars to help fund that boondoggle. Anything to add besides an ad hominem? What exactly was conspiratorial? The obviously flippant line about the Sierra club folks graft? Newsom tried the same InNSuReCsHuniST QaNoN line and was laughed out of the room and had to crack open the checkbook to get his approval ratings back up. I’m sure you guys will be just as concerned with the waste in that hundred billion budget. I’m curious how much his housing spending actually helps the pitiful homeless situation the states in. Also, if this recall nonsense offends so much why haven’t you guys just amended your state constitution? The whole process is a farce and late night comedian dream. I generally endorse recall statutes to give the voting public an option to rid bad leaders outside of political impeachment processes. Guys need to up the signature requirements and restructure the candidate numbers completely.
I've been bitching about the state referendum process for years (again, why the fuck am I voting on dialysis regulations?). Unfortunately I am not the sole author of California's constitution.
Big day today: Trump Organization CFO arrested as charges finally come SCOTUS guts another piece of the Voting Rights Act Pelosi released her picks for the Select Committee on 1/6, which included Liz Cheney
saw reports that Cheney was surprised by the pick. Brilliant move strategically imo. Now Pelops can say she isn’t being partisan, and Cheney gets turned loose as an attack dog.
I'm so disillusioned with what the left is doing, and how they're treating Biden in the middle of national crisis, that as long as the GOP picks someone who just actively doesn't associate with the trump crowd, then I'm in.
https://www.yahoo.com/news/democrat-calls-noems-private-money-175100933.html I realize that it's the National Guard but couldn't it pretty much be considered a private mercenary army at this point?
What does everyone think the political fallout might be for pulling out of Afghanistan? I think it’s a giant shit sandwich that needed to happen. The taliban is essentially just waiting around to take back over completely. Any progress, even the smallest will be completely erased make the last 20 years completely pointless.
Afghanistan has never really been a united country, at least not in modern history. The closest it came to that was just before the Soviets invaded, and has been in a de facto state of civil war ever since. A tribe in one area usually wants nothing to do with one in the very next region. Islam is practiced so widely different all over the country, it can't even organically unite in a theocracy. The Taliban and ISIS will try to implement that by force and with funding from Pakistan and with zero international resistance, it will probably become a far worse war-torn nightmare than it is now. The current government basically has no power outside of Kabul. India is not going to commit troops to stabilize it after it just saw the U.S. not do it for 20 years and China does not have the means or capability to do it, other than providing some side loans to the Pakistani government that funnels right into Afghan territory. It's going to be a shit-show while the U.N. just wags it's finger.
So to answer your question re: political fallout, I guess it depends on which party is running the gubmint when that hot potato finally drops to the ground. The Taliban are well en route to reestablishing control, they've already had one Afghan military force surrender to them. Can't imagine it'll take them much longer to secure the entire country. For some geopolitical analysis from the school of I Don't Know Shit University, maybe today's Taliban is led by the younger generation, the one that knows that if they just mind their business and run their country without bothering anyone outside, they'll be left alone?
Also, the left can ignore the uptick in violent crime at their own peril. Nothing sends people running into the arms of “law and order” like a bunch murders and road rage shootings. The talking points practically write themselves at this point. “Looks like defunding the police isn’t quite the policy you all wanted.” They need to at least acknowledge that there’s a problem right now.
Or they can just weirdly pretend it’s the other side wanting to defund the police like the WH Press Secretary.
I haven't paid much attention to the stats, but wouldn't we expect an uptick from last year because of y'know, lock down??
I mean, yes that makes logical sense. What doesn’t make sense, and this is purely anecdotal, but the level of aggression on the roads is way higher than it used to be. Houston is already basically mad max on crack on your average day. But now there are almost daily road rage shootings on the highways. Back in March, the data from 2020 had us up 42% in murders over 2019. We are at 275 murders for the year so far. I’m sure there’s plenty of reasons for the uptick. But at the end of the day, all those new gains made in the burbs due to Trump being insane and a constant swollen asshole can be easily lost the second those young families feel even the least bit nervous.
