So last night the Republicans lost the game of chicken that they were playing over the debt ceiling; I have to admit I didn't see that coming. What do y'all think the future is for the "Build Back Better" plan? Do y'all think it's a good thing, or just more pork?
Bill Maher's gone a bit Boomer lately with the lazy Gen Z and "get off my lawn" jokes. But on this he's been spot on since before it even started. https://youtu.be/7cR4fXcsu9w The only thing Democrats needed to do was fix the VRA to nip these schemes in the bud. January 21st, when even McCarthy and them were still reeling from the Capitol assault, was the exact time to pass some legislation and get it done. But that opportunity is gone, the cultists had time to regroup and pledge allegiance, now we're back to fighting over petty gubmint shit even as the Trumpists get a solid grip on that rug under the Democrats' feet.
I love how as soon as Jon Stewart comes back on the scene, he immediately blows away everyone else with how good he is at mixing comedy with insightful commentary.
There are levels in comedy, just like everything else. He is a true pro, knows what he’s doing and does it right at ALL TIMES. Vastly superior over the endless copies of him that spawned from The Daily Show’s success.
No shit. Seth Meyers / Stephen Colbert / Samantha Bee: "Trump, amiright guys?" Audience: "HAHAHAHAHAHHAHA"
Yeah, but Samantha Bee says that while being IN YOUR FACE pew pew pew. Or, at least that's what the commercials tell me.
Colbert is the biggest comedic disappointment for me. He was awesome on strangers with candy. Colbert report was a hilarious spoof on. Bill O’reilly. Then as soon as he became host after Letterman, he just turned into an unfunny and pretentious panderer. What kills me is when he has other comedians on who are funnier than him and he acts like they aren’t funny to hamstring their appearance. Bill Burr comes to mind. I remember a while back, he was on there doing his Bill Burr thing where he goes out on a limb to lose the audience just to bring them back in again. Usually, someone like Conan is in on it and goes along with it. But Colbert just sits there like the person says nothing. He doesn’t like people who are funnier than him.
Kimmel also fell with the grace of a wounded duck. He went from The Man Show (which was entirely awesome) to one of TV’s biggest pussies. The Simpsons is the worst of all: going from the greatest satirical show ever made to becoming literally and figuratively bullshit propaganda for the Left. After it chased away its core audience— the fans who mattered— it locked the door and kept it that way. Fucking disgrace.
Kimmel sold out the way Howard Stern did. They decided they’d rather be part of the Hollywood crowd rather than mock it. Im not a huge John Oliver fan, and his show is laughably biased, but at least he’s doing something different.
I love Oliver's format. Instead of just quipping about the headlines for 30 minutes he does a few quips and then dives into a single topic his team has been researching for weeks. This is how our non-comedy news should be, with just an hour or two of "today's news" which is more of a "here are topics you might want to pay attention to when someone dives into them in long form over the next few weeks or months." The 24 hour news cycle is killing us.
Yeah I can that being cool in maybe 1967, but who the fuck would want to be associated with that crew of phoney pretentious fuckheads now? Harrison Ford carries the best possible attitude imaginable towards acting and Hollywood. “It’s just a job. PAY ME so I can do it and get back to crash-landing vintage airplanes.”
Is anyone else kind of impressed by how much Ted Cruz seems to be hated on a personal level? I've never heard of anyone who knows him personally who can stand him, regardless of ideology. Right wingers, left wingers, completely apolitical apathetic types; they all have a visceral hatred of the man. Even people who are impressed with him on a professional level are willing to sacrifice in order not to have to include him or deal with him.
So between him and Abbott, what does that say to how many low-information voters there are in Texas? I mean, I see comments about Abbott saying “Finally a real man who will stand up for Texans!” and my first thought is it must be the autism talking.
It looks like 17 missionaries were kidnapped in Haiti; five of them children under the age of 10. There's a $1M per ransom on their heads and apparently the group that took them is well-known for this type of thing. On the one hand, taking your children to a country in such upheaval with a history of HUNDREDS of hostage situations per year is so asinine I can't begin to comprehend it. Sure, go be a missionary if you want...but don't put the lives of minor children at risk. On the other hand, this is what SF is for and I hope a group of bearded, tattooed men kicks open the door and shoots dead all the captors.
