My concern is more along the lines of state level republicans overtly changing the rules of who is in charge of what with regards to overseeing the elections and how votes are counted. There is an obvious move on their part to ensure the outcome of the vote count is only in their favor. Last time, they actually forged documents(on video) of fake electors to submit to the senate to create false confusion providing cover for the outcome of the election to be decided at the federal level. There is literally a handful of cases of people trying to commit election fraud and it was all at the hands of Republican voters. If trying to pass uniform rules with respect to proper voting ensures that republicans can’t win anymore, I’m not sure that’s a good argument for GOP policies.
But wait, there’s more. https://www.politico.com/news/2022/...that-would-have-seized-voting-machines-527572
Reminder that the reauthorization of the Voting Rights Act used to be a consensus bipartisan affair. The 2006 reauthorization passed 390–33 in the House and 98-0 in the Senate. However by 2019 things had shifted, and the reauthorization passed 228–187 in the House with only a single Republican vote, and died in the Senate without a vote. Trump threatened to veto it if it did pass. That bill is now the John Lewis Voting Rights Act and is set for a similar fate.
This is why I’m saying, the Democrats are correct, and we all know it. On every issue. So stop elections, get rid of Republicans, and have the correct party in control for good.
The Democrats are wrong on a lot of shit. But, they aren't currently trying to destroy democracy at the moment.
They’re already declaring that the midterms will be illegitimate, let’s not pat them on the back too much.
The stunts being currently pulled by Republican legislatures, I'd say they have reason to cry wolf. Or they can wait until after the deed is done to raise the alarm, I guess. It's not like an election do-over is some impossible thing.
Certainly there is no cause for concern that Republicans may be trying to make elections illegitimate: https://madison.com/wsj/news/local/...cle_7c02e785-a19f-548c-bcd0-530554002a0f.html
So don’t have the elections, at all. If you knew that you had a 100% chance of things being better, why would you allow even the slightest chance for any other outcome?
I know it’s naive of me to say considering the amount of money and other bullshit involved in political campaigns and whatnot, but changing the election rules when the current rules (that the same party came up with) are no longer working for them is bad faith of the highest order. The republicans realize that they are in the political minority now so they are again changing the rules to actually try and change the outcome should it not be one the state leaders want.
Thank Christ. If he waited until after the midterms and the Democrats lost the Senate, I don't think I could handle that level of gross obtuseness combined with electoral incompetence.
Well, I’m not sure what Manchin and Sinema will have to say about all of this. Those 2 pieces of shit would love nothing more than to continue kicking their own party in the nuts.
They've been voting for Biden's judges so far. It's one thing to play their faux-institutionalist game, it's another for them to join in the open obstruction of filling a SCOTUS seat. ...I really hope I'm right about that.
It’s also not like replacing him swings anything the other direction either. It would take Thomas or Alito retiring to truly fan the flames.
Even an asswipe like Sanders isn’t dumb enough to destroy his own legacy with something like that. I think. I also don’t think there is a statue of limitations on holding McConnell accountable for his dereliction of duty by refusing Garland’s nomination hearings.
My prediction is that Kruger will be the nominee, which will keep us on our current trendline of nominating a pre-teen to the bench by 2039.
