I'm thinking it'll be Cardi B or Aaron Rodgers (pronounced Ay Ay Ron Rod Gurs), based on how the current administration seems to do it's thinking.
How do you expect the old white males to get re-elected if they don’t nominate a young woman of color?
And she’s so qualified too, like Hillary was— because both of their husbands were president. It’s basically the same thing, only you don’t work.
I'm obviously not a fan of much of the Democrat Party platform, but if I had to pick a President or SC Justice between to the two of them, I'd take Michelle Obama over Hillary Clinton 10 times out of 10.
I distrust the rumor mill a LOT right now, because it only gets circulated if there's name recognition. Name recognition for an SC appointee is a nightmare. The SC as an institution needs some degree of political and legislative neutrality. Appointing someone like an Obama or Harris would eradicate that. They would suck all the air out of that room. It wouldn't be legislating from the bench, it'd be legislating from the bench via Twitter. I'm hoping he appoints someone so far left it serves to offset the Trump appointees, and avoids the calamity of appointing a political celebrity. Harris would have been an excellent appointment in an alternate reality, but that would be a death sentence to 2024 right now, unless he literally gets Beyonce, Oprah or Michelle Obama to run as VP. Demoting the country's first female/African/Indian VP would be so toxic to his base, she's damned near untouchable. The other piece to this is he has to be eyeing November. 20 of the 34 Senate seats are held by the GOP, with 8 races being toss-ups: https://ballotpedia.org/United_States_Senate_elections,_2022 I can imagine him drawing this out and making it a campaign issue for those states, trying to maintain the Dem's grasp on "you're not voting FOR us, you're voting AGAINST them". So, I'd wager he wants the rumor mill to keep on raging.
