The scariest thing will always be his supporters and those willing to vote for someone like him. The system has many ways of course correcting for a horrible individual. It has no mechanism for course correcting for a horrible electorate.
Sort of off topic, but an interesting video on the history of presidential flight. Did you know Teddy Roosevelt was the first president to fly? Because of course he was. I'm almost surprised he didn't fly while fighting a bear.
I dont get why people keep saying this. He lied, like all politicians do. The difference was his lies were of a different variety than the standard political rhetoric, so a new segment of people bought into it. If he ran with all his blustery but with a typical GOP talking points, he probably doesn't get elected. But he spoke about changing Washington and all that bullshit, so people thought it sounded appealing. He was openly fighting with GOP establishment and it gave credence to his message. People didn't anticipate the backroom deals and all the concessions that Pence clearly got. I didn't vote for him. I think he's vindictive and petty. But I also didn't expect him to be as much of a GOP shill as he has been. But again, the left's constant need to rip the electorate and be BAFFLED by why they voted for him needs to fucking stop and give way to "what the hell did we do to get to this point."
Are we already at the stage where we blame Democrats for not working harder to pull right wing voters' heads out of their own asses? Nothing about what Trump is doing is surprising to anyone who paid a modicum of attention during the campaign. He is lowering our standing in the world and undermining our alliances, we knew he would do that. He is advocating for the deliberate commission of war crimes, we knew he would do that. He is refusing to address conflicts of interest or any of the ethical traditions that buttress the presidency, we knew he would do that. He is attacking the media and targeting those who disagree with him, whether they are right or not, we knew he would do that. He is adopting policy based on conspiracy theories, we knew he would do that. He is adhering to the very pay-to-play politicking he ranted against, we knew he would do that. It's well past time for the people who voted for him to grow up and accept some responsibility. The left didn't "make" anyone vote for any of this. They chose it, repeatedly and willingly, in the primary and in the general.
I've been in the plane. It's in the air force museum in Dayton. Presidential planes are way more cool now.
Does this mean that the Kickstarter for the wall will be coming up shortly? https://www.nytimes.com/2017/01/26/...over-wall.html?smid=fb-nytimes&smtyp=cur&_r=0 I look forward to the stretch goals: $10 billion - "Here we will be able to coat the entire wall in pure gold" $15 billion - "At this goal we'll be able place 20ft high "TRUMP" letters on the wall every two miles" $20 billion - "Here, we can add trap doors in front of the wall which will drop any illegal immigrants into a large arena where they will have to commit themselves to a life of never ending gladiatorial combat games." And so on.
Huh... seems like the entire senior management of the State Department just resigned. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...nt-team-just-resigned/?utm_term=.8bf6e00ecd82 I have no idea if this is normal as part of a transition of power, and the press is making a bigger deal out of it than it really is, or if it's actually a big deal.
If Bush's State Dept had quit en masse in 2009, we surely would've heard about it. At the very least as part of some faux outrage "won't work for a black man" thinkpiece. Nah, methinks they just heard something they really, really didn't like.
Not at all. I just still constantly hear echoes of "how could we lose" in the form of "look at you idiots, this is your fault". Its like a girl, who was tired of you, breaking up with you for a dude with a motorcycle and bitching about the dude and his stupid fucking motorcycle and calling her an idiot for her choices, instead of wondering/addressing why she was tired of you in the first place. Trump would have lost to almost anyone besides Clinton. ANYONE. And people continue to be baffled at how he won and how people shouldn't have buyers remorse. I'm not attacking you directly Aetius, just commenting on what I'm seeing. I'm also not seeing a lot of people who are complaining that the Trump they got isn't what they are getting. I see a lot of people still hopeful about business and taxation policies.
WaPo is notoriously unreliable and biased. But then again, so is CNN. So take your pick. Trump administration asks top State Department officials to leave "All four, career officers serving in positions appointed by the President, submitted letters of resignation per tradition at the beginning of a new administration. The letters from the White House said that their resignations were accepted and they were thanked for their service."
If anyone should not be complaining its the people who voted for him. I havent seen such a clear cut delivery on a campaign promises, for better or worse, in such a short amount of time.
If he ends up keeping(or clearly trying to keep) all of his campaign promises then the people who voted for him will not care about the blantant lies on twitter/press conferences. And quite frankly they shouldn't. So far it seems like he's doing that(although to be fair, it is only a week into the administration).
Considering that 80% of Mexico's exports are to the US, they receive $700M in foreign aid from us every year (And tens of millions sent home by individuals) and we have around 10 million of their citizens that are illegally in our country who we can dump back in their lap. it would seem to me that they're getting into a pissing match with an empty bladder.
Because they're getting what they want. It's the same reason Obama supporters give me when I ask them why they supported them; it's either "because he said x and then did it(healthcare or gay marriage for example)" or "because he said x and then tried really hard to do x but Congressional Republicans stopped him!" Never mind the massive surveillance state, never mind the assassination of Americans abroad, never mind Manning/Snowden. According to his supporters, he delivered or tried to deliver, thus nothing else matters. If Leader A can actually deliver on Voter A's top 3-4 main issues, Voter A flat out will not care about anything else Leader A says or does short of open genocide. I'm not saying I agree with any of his promises, but the fact remains he is trying to deliver, so the people who voted for him will excuse almost anything else.
So, instead of building a wall (costing us time and money), why not threaten the purse strings and put the burden of border enforcement either entirely or predominantly on them? Less effort on our part and money easily saved, right? He could drum up support for that in a similar vein as cutting funding to the UN.
