This is kind of a game changer. 1. This was THE wedge issue for a lot of folks, especially the relgious right. 2. The way this decision was made, calling for the court to reconsider decisions made on same-sex relationships, same-sex marriage and contraception, presents a much broader threat than abortion. 3. This decision is against what most Americans support. I think this puts a TON of shit up in the air, namely: for a non-presidential election, with abortion decided and the Big Lie being dispelled (or alternatively, if you still believe it), if you're a Republican voter....why come out? Also, the Senate just put gun control through, so like...why bother? I am curious what Biden's reaction will be. It's not even 8 a.m. here, and my staff are losing their minds on this. Biden hasn't done much, but if he doesn't do something big about this, he deserves to lose the majority. I recall a stat saying 70% of women surveyed indicated they would not fuck people who identify as conservative. I think that number is about to skyrocket.
Considering his reaction after the Uvalde shooting was a bizarre demand to ban 9mm handguns, I wouldn’t expect anything remarkable, or coherent.
I don't think you understand: Republicans ALWAYS show up to vote. Democrats and their flaky woke/ LGBT/ minority/ youth "base" have a really bad voting record. Look, I hope I'm wrong, but I probably aren't.
A thing I don't think people are quite realizing yet is that Roe vs. Wade was the thing that guaranteed your medical privacy from the state. It'll be interesting to see how long it takes for someone to put forth a law banning the possession of firearms of people with mental health issues now that there isn't any restrictions on the government from accessing your medical records. In any case, this is just the first step towards rolling back same sex marriage. Thomas basically admitted as much. Sort of wondering how long it will take before miscegenation laws are put back in place and I'm forced to divorce my wife.
lol, medical privacy. Your medical records get passed around to so many people, including the state, already. These are handled by people and robots. Two groups that consistently mishandle and leak information.
I don't think you understand the issue here. Medical privacy that was guaranteed by Roe vs. Wade prevented the cops from arresting you because, for example, you had illegal drugs in your system when you were getting a blood test done. Even if the cops had that information, they couldn't use it as a basis for charging you. There are no such guarantees now. All this repeal has done is create black markets for abortions and other medical procedures that people don't want the government, and by extension, the police, from knowing about.
If there’s a list of 26 states where abortion will be illegal, then the 24 where it will be legal should just go full bore.
Me personally not really a opinion I hold one way or another on the subject. I wish there had a more concerted effort by the libertarian side of the right to team up with abortion proponents to come to a truce. Get the government to Lay off my gun rights and I’ll help do the same for abortion. The anti abortion religious sect is a loud and powerful voter base in red country though. It’s always been hard not to be drowned out by their fervency.
There are laws in some states that trigger full abortion bans in the event Roe is overturned. How is that "slightly" restrictive?
I'm fully in support of making it legal in California to abort a Texan at any age. I don't think the country's five libertarians have the negotiating power you think they do.
There are a good number of people on the right who are ambivalent on it. Since it doesn’t move the needle for them you are getting them fired up to be heard. Tying it to gun rights was just my fantasy answer to kill two fetuses with one AR15.
WTF, US? Saw it summed up well in a reddit comment: “home of gun care and health control” Should be a “fun” next 10 years watching this unfurl.
I’m almost tempted to dig through this thread’s history and highlight all the “never happen” responses to this initial concern.
So, I'm confused. Conservatives..........don't like the government stepping in and telling people how to live their lives? Or is it ok when it is people they don't like/agree with?
As long as those people have a vagina and/or are born with an amount of skin melanin above the level of copy paper, then yes.
