It's a Republican talking point. They will say anything to stroke the religious idiots for their votes. You want to hear worse? Some bills go as far as saying that you can't end an ectopic pregnancy. Which, by the way, can only end with serious injury or death of the woman. But fuck her for having a vagina I guess.

There's a fairly decent chance that the driver didn't know they were in there.

This situation happened to my brother about ten years ago; he picked up what he was told was a normal load, but when he got to the Border Patrol check point, they opened the trailer, and there were about a dozen people in there. It came out on the news.
They questioned him for a couple of hours, and deduced that he was telling the truth.

When he got back to headquarters, his boss was like "whoopsie, forgot to tell you about that!" and kicked him a couple grand for his troubles.

My brother left that company shortly afterwards...

Predictable for the biggest piece of shit in entire your state to say that, given he didn’t a cool billion dollars putting the national guard on border patrol in Texas.

This is Abbott’s fuck-up because he’s an abject fuck-up. When it comes to ejecting clown shoes to lead them, nobody died it like Texas.

If I were on the opposite end of the spectrum, I’d draft a bill that codifies the phrase “endowed by their Creator,” and specifically states that the Creator is the Birthing Person.
Then you have a Certificate of Endowment, an official document that can be signed by the Birthing Person, from conception up until the Creation’s third birthday.

EDIT: Or a Revocation of Endowment, if you change your mind.

So we have arrived at the "how do you legislate something biologically and scientifically verifiable, but with alleged moral dictation by imaginary bearded sky magician?"

This is literally the dog that caught the car.

This can't properly be legislated, enforcement is a nightmare and the way the decision was written allows for the unraveling of so many other precedents, you could legitimately claim we are legally going to party like it's 1889.

You are now legally asked to recognize something that doesn't exist yet, at the risk and expense of something that does.

That's how fucking stupid this decision is.

I truly believe a lot of these anti abortion types are extremely uneducated about women's health, stemming from religious or old fashioned prudishness. Abortion to many of them is distilled down into killing a healthy formed baby in utero when truly, an abortion procedure encompasses so many situations, and late term abortions are pretty fucking unusual. The fetus could be alive or dead, nonviable, maybe not even really in there still. My sister had a D&C after a miscarriage because it didn't all flush out. That is an abortion. That retained tissue would have led to sepsis and death. People who won't even entertain the idea of including serious women's health issues are completely callous and not understanding of how common these things happen. They think its some loophole to be exploited. It's not, it's a private health matter.

There's a reason you look back at family trees back way in the day, before major medical care, and women are just birthing out babies until they fucking die from it. Might happen after 1, might happen after 7. Then the husband either remarries a young woman who may or may not care for the current kids, or the kids are left motherless, made to work at a young age to pull their weight, used and abused in whatever way, maybe turn to crime, given away. This is woman's health issue that will turn into family issues that will ripple across communities when it occurs at scale. Sorry that I don't want to live in an impoverished shit hole with uncared and unwanted children everywhere. In the end, I strongly believe that a person has the right to choose whether they reproduce or not. And ideally, you could make the decision quick into gestation, and not be held up by stupid waiting laws and things that put you out of the time limit to take care of your situation. We do not live in a society with strong safety nets or inexpensive healthcare.

Anecdote. My neighbor was keeping her estranged sister's little 2 year old boy for a few days recently while her sister went to detox for fentanyl. I sat with her outside while her son and the little boy played and heard all about the sister's problems. That little boy broke my goddamn heart. He didn't even know his aunt but kept coming up to hug and sit on her lap (stranger danger towards me), and was laughing and babbling. My neighbor does not really even like young kids so I know she has not been very motherly to this kid. I see the love he seeks and needs, heard about his fucking HORRIBLE home life, and later compared his developmental skills to my own kid his same age. Spoiler, he's behind.

People ill equipped to have children are already doing it everywhere, and as times get tougher, the children suffer the most. Strict anti abortion laws that prevent women who don't want to be, and should not be, mothers, are just going to cause so much more misery.

Trump wanted to remove the metal detectors to make the rally as full as possible and said "they aren't here to hurt me" and "they can march to the capital". He knew the crowd was armed, armored and pissed off.

And they knew that the Capitol Police wasn't going to be able to hold off the crowd. Holy fuck.

Okay, but is anything ACTUALLY going to be done about it?
You'll have to excuse me, but I've been hearing for the last five years that justice is coming "any day now," yet here we are...

    Edit:

I haven't done any real reading about it (as it's too depressing to fully contemplate), but this is my feeling with Kennedy v Bremerton (the football coach who liked to get his players to pray with him). Schools and teachers already push the limits in regard to this, so shit is going to get really bad for a long long time as we try to figure out what is and isn't acceptable. And in the meantime any kids who aren't Christian are going to be marginalized and ostracized to a higher degree.

Here's a list of cases so far
    https://www.justice.gov/usao-dc/capitol-breach-cases

I think they are trying to build it from the bottom up. What's the expression.... you take a shot at the king, you best not miss.

I am but a bystander so who the fuck knows how it will end.

Trump was told by his director of security that he was going to be allowed to go to the Capitol after his rally while in his motorcade. In response, Trump tried to grab the steering wheel. His security director stopped him, and then Trump went for his throat.

The republican crusades against abortion, and for free speech seem to have the side effect of gutting health and education. Funny how that works.

Trump will not be charged with a crime, at least at the federal level. He will probably see some charges emerge at the state level that could keep him off of the ballot, or at least delay/restrict campaigning in 2024.

I think the overarching strategy is document, vigorously investigate so that anyone who would be involved in another attempt has some degree of documentation on them, and bring down the Trump empire. Imprisoning a former president is unthinkable, but making them too toxic to work for, so they can't campaign and their control over the party isn't.

No one is worried about Trump repeating January 6th. They are worried about folks selling themselves as the key to making Jan. 6th a success

I don't doubt this at all but source? Just surprised I've never heard of it before.
